Laurie Joe went above and beyond for me. I interviewed several firms and attorneys before selecting Laurie. I am so grateful I did. Her knowledge, strength, compassion and advocacy exceeded my expectations. Laurie really cares about her clients and even after my case was finished she was still there for me whenever I needed her. I wouldn’t have made It through the process without Laurie and Morgan’s support. Laurie will always be my lawyer and her knowledge, guidance and support are priceless. Truly grateful for her.

Laurie is an excellent attorney! She effectively communicated and facilitated the completion and court approval of a 50/50 parenting plan between myself and my child's mother during a very hostile period of time. She recommended details for the plan I would have never even thought of. As a first time father dealing with a rough break up Laurie was a great voice of reason and was very helpful. I'd reccomend Laurie/The Burnham Law Firm to anyone dealing with the same situation!

I did a great deal of research weighing who/what kind of attorney I hoped to work with on my divorce/modification case. I can honestly and emphatically say that I *cannot say enough wonderful things about Laurie Joe*. She (and her team) worked tirelessly on my case even in instances that she had other cases to attend to. There were even a few times where she was out of the office around the Holiday season and she still replied/called me in response to any emails during that time out. She answered all questions completely and if I still needed more information beyond the detail she provided, she willingly consulted others in order to get that information. She was an excellent sounding board for anything I needed and was very patient with me throughout the entire process. Laurie also kindly and honestly answered the dreaded "what would you do if in my situation" question, even if I did not like the answer. She also worked with my ex in a fashion that kept our situation as de-escalated as possible while maintaining the nature of what I wanted to accomplish. If you're on the fence about an attorney, working with Laurie will make you so happy you had her in your corner.

I first hired Laurie in 2010 and have continued to use her over the last 9 years when needed! She is AMAZING!! I was completely in the dark regarding my divorce, my kids and my options. After meeting with her, I had a clear understanding of the court procedure, my options, and the correct way to move forward. She always takes the time to make sure to answer all my questions, be hopeful but honest with me and make sure I feel good about moving forward! She supported what I wanted/needed 100%. I feel completely confident with Laurie! I would highly recommend her. Thank you Laurie so much for your kind-heart, wisdom, and guidance over the years!

I hired Laurie to represent me on my child custody cases and through a neglect case that came up do to my ex-wife. Laurie was great the entire time, she continuously fought for my rights regardless of how difficult I was the entire time. She helped me to understand what my rights were and what I could do. I first hired her after I realized I wanted more time then I was given with my children. After helping me get through several months of court cases and mediation, I was able to obtain 50/50 custody of my daughters. Then maybe a year later, I received a phone call from child protective services that my oldest daughter had been neglected and had something bad happen to her. I chose to have Laurie represent me, despite her warnings, and I couldn’t have been more happy with the results. I know have full custody of my daughters and can happily report that now 2 years later they still have not seen their mother who ran away, instead of owning up to her responsibilities. I highly recommend anyone that needs an attorney regardless of what the matter, divorce, child custody or neglect cases, should hire Laurie. She is patient and a great attorney, and someone that I will hire again if the need ever rises.

When I met Nathan Dowell, I knew immediately I would hire him to represent me. He has great communication skills and goes after what needs to be done. He and his paralegal, Karen Yurack, are quite the power team. Karen is very supportive, and they work in sync. You definitely want them on your side, as they went above and beyond to help.

I found myself a victim of roofing contractor that took my money and didn’t perform any work. County law enforcement was moving incredibly slow and I did not have strong confidence I was going to recover any of my money. I decided to hire Stuart Morse Law firm. I mostly worked with Greg on my case and I was immediately impressed with this law firm. This team of law was able to recover all the money the contractor stole from me and almost all the damages the roofing contractor created. The Stuart Morse Team did a great job! Thank you!

My family recently worked with Stuart D. Morse & Associates, LLC. It is not often that I am compelled to write a review but we felt very fortunate to have them represent us. The professionalism and communication was more than we could have asked for. Our direct contact was Gregory J. Theo. He was always there to answer questions and communicate with us on the progress of our case. I will definitely be referring your office in the future.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Greenwood Village, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
