I am a CPA that frequently prepares income tax returns for estates and trusts. Patrick is the outstanding attorney who has prepared wills and trusts for my family. He also handled my mother's probate in a thorough and efficient way. I have referred numerous clients to Patrick, and they have always been pleased. The estate plan that he creates includes important explanatory materials, as well as, additional copies of living wills that can be provided to medical practices, as needed.

I refer a lot of people to Steve Cook! He combines a sincere warmth with tactical competence, strength and tenacity. I have found him to be dogged in his efforts to thoughtfully guide his clients to safer ground, while advocating for them in every way imaginable. Mr. Cook has the unique ability to balance toughness and tenderness in his comprehensive approach to client protection and well-being.

Working with Kim was such a blessing during one of the toughest times. I worked with Kim to help me close my mother’s estate after she passed away. It’s such a sensitive time and there are so many details and things needed to go through the process of closing an estate. Kim was so wonderful to work with and made the process feel achievable and I felt her support throughout the entire process. She was diligent with all paper and follow through and helped me understand the process and made sure we got everything done. Kim listens and is so respectful and supportive of her clients she truly has a great deal of knowledge and is wonderful to work with. I highly recommend working with Kim to help support you with any legacy planning and or estate processing. I look forward to having her help in the future as needed.

Kim was fantastic to work with! I was originally referred to another firm closer to where I live however I had a bad experience with them not answering my follow up questions via email and a voicemail until 3 months after the initial meeting. Skeptical to find another attorney to draft up an estate plan and marital agreement I was then referred to Legacy Planning & Probate. The process was easy and completed in a timely manner. Kim is very approachable and made me feel comfortable asking any questions I had. She also did a great job explaining all documents and legal language in thorough detail. I highly recommend using Legacy Planning & Probate!

Bradley Frigon is extremely knowledgeable about estate matters including Medicaid. He helped me immensely during a difficult time in my life. His billing practices are very fair and the money spent on probate was well spent. His staff is friendly and helpful, as well. I would highly recommend Mr Frigon and his firm.

My mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in early 2014. When she found out, she was quick to get her will in order with Bradley and his team. I was designated as her Power of Attorney and Executor of the will, and I had no idea what I was doing. In the initial meetings, Bradley explained everything very carefully, and took plenty of time to answer all of our questions. She passed in April of the following year, and everyone at the office was very helpful while I navigated the complicated process of selling her house, managing her finances, and ultimately settling the estate. They were able to communicate quickly and effectively when I needed it, and made the process much easier than it would have been doing it alone. I'm very grateful to Brad, Vicky, and the rest of the team.

My mother's wish was to have my sister and I wait one year from her death to split the inheritance 50/50. As the year from her death approached I contacted my sister regarding splitting the inheritance, but she refused planning on keeping all of the money for herself and making her husband full beneficiary. My mother lived and passed away in Denver, Colorado and I live in Kansas City, Missouri. After doing an internet search, I found Mr. Frigon's site very professional, thus I contacted his office for a consultation. Although my mother made my sister personal representative and full beneficiary on the inheritance, Mr. Frigon was successful in demonstrating my mother's wishes prior to her death to my sister's attorney in the matter. The matter finally resolved in receiving 50% of my mother's inheritance and for each of my sons to receive money towards a down payment on a home. In conclusion, Mr. Frigon and his office demonstrated the highest level of professionalism and kept me apprised of all matters regarding this issue. The cost of resolving this issue was very fair.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of LIttleton, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
