After being referred by a friend I was super disappointed in the interaction I had with the receptionist Veronique. Very unprofessional with short responses and super rude attitude. So bummed as I’m sure the lawyers are great but not worth having to speak with that woman throughout the process.

Robert Perrone and his Paralegal Brittany Ward have been amazing to work with in my child custody case. Robert has been patiently working with me to help alter the trajectory of what has been a very difficult and complex child custody situation. His abundant expertise in family law has left me feeling secure during a truly distressing time. Nothing but respect for this remarkable attorney.

There were some very unique circumstances with my inevitable divorce. I was quick to sign with my first attorney from a different firm, but my other attorney didn't seem familiar with how to handle my unique situation, and did not give me much confidence, so I backed down by the first court appearance. After doing more thoughtful research, I came across Griffith Law Firm, and it was proposed that Jamie help me with my divorce given her experience and background. Upon first meeting with Jamie she immediately gave me confidence and assured me that she would be able to help. I filed for divorce through Jamie at Griffith Law firm for a second time. Both Jamie and Tracy were extremely helpful throughout the process that ended up going all the way to trial. Thanks to their help I was able to keep my children's lives relatively the same, which has been my goal through the entire process. They would always take the time to answer my questions and put my mind at ease, despite the anxiety and stress that comes with the divorce process. It was clear she spent much time preparing for trial, and also preparing me for what to expect. I could not recommend Jamie and Tracy enough, and I really appreciate their help.

I discovered at a very late date that I was uncomfortably close to my statue of limitations for a personal injury case - which I found out creates numerous complications that would not be there were there more time. My case was complex. Mr. Landry was caring and compassionate in listening to my details and he reached out to me numerous times over a week-plus trying to help. Many, many other lawyers turned me down because of the time limits and Mr Landry was willing to take my case even though some of the specifics of it were out of his practice range. He was willing to do simply because he knew that I had a good case but had not been able to find another lawyer at such a late date. He offered many suggestions and was always positive and willing to try different options, and he researched areas he did not know well. At all times he was humorous and understanding. I ultimately found a lawyer who had much experience in the nuances of my case so I did not end up hiring Mr. Landry. When I told him, he was gracious even though he had spent a fair amount of time with me. He then sincerely wished me the best - and even asked me to let him know how things turned out. To my mind, the mark of a great lawyer is one with heart and a willingness to help, as well as a willingness to think out of the box. You will find this - and more - in Mr. Landry.

Neil is unquestionably the best business/tax attorney I have ever worked with. As a CPA with a Masters degree in Taxation I have worked with over 100 attorneys in the last 30+ years. Neil is the hardest working, results oriented, knowledgeable and diligent attorney of them all. He is also as "smart" as any attorney I have worked with. I would recommend Neil without hesitation!

Carolyn and her team did a fantastic job in guiding me through my divorce. Mine was a high conflict situation, and they dealt with that conflict beautifully. I walked in their doors having begun elsewhere, but needing better representation. I stated my exact goals for outcome. One year later, I walked away with the process complete and literally that exact goals met across the board. I could not have asked for a better guide, counselor, and representative during the hardest months of my adult life.

Carolyn Witkus represented me on my high-conflict divorce over 30 months, and I continue to work with her post decree. She is flawless in courtroom, delivering the perfect mix of tempered "attack" and empathy for all parties involved. On the legal front, her team delivered perfection; I never worried about filings or deadlines; most often, she and her team reminded me of what needed to be done! She coached me through the injustice that is pervasive in family courts today, and was there for me when I fell apart, helping to keep me together and focused on what was most important: surviving and thriving with my children. She literally saved my children's lives. I would not have survived without her, and I would not send family or friends to anyone other than Carolyn.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Lone Tree, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
