Ted and Robin were VERY well organized as well as prompt with responding to my concerns! Honesty. Integrity. Transparency! Three very important qualities that make a very difficult situation bearable. From the moment I retained Ted, I felt very comfortable knowing he was NOT in this for the money, but to help me fight a battle that meant the world to me! I had attempted to fight this battle alone up until about 40 days before the trial date. Feeling overpowered, I called Ted's office and met with him a day later. After consulting with Ted, I walked out of his office with a huge amount of weight lifted off my shoulders. With not very much time to prepare, Ted and Robin immediately started working on my case. Ted never once steered me in the wrong direction and always pointed out the logistics of the case. If I didn't like what the opposing party had to say, Robin would listen very carefully to my thoughts and concerns and she and Ted would have a "plan of action" within minutes. Although we settled outside of court 5 minutes before the trial started, Ted had his well documented notes and was ready to stand by me in court and fight for what my daughter and I deserved! Ted went back to his office and worked on organizing all of the documentation of what had been settled on in court. We went back and forth for several days until everyone was happy with the agreement. Robin very patiently listened to my concerns and made several "tweaks" until both parties were completely happy. Thank you very much!! I appreciate you both!

Ted had my daughter's best interest at heart to include how the expense of litigation would impact our family's finances. He knew what he was doing at all times and handle the situation in a very professional manner at all times.

Ted Finn had a no-bull approach that I found efficient and refreshing. At the same time, he consistently showed perceptive intuition as to the nuances of the case and the opposing party's tactics. He was about the business of my case as opposed to running up my bill. He was inclined to take the high road, very upfront regarding cost, and he communicated throughout regarding cost analysis of pursuing various approaches or battles. When it did come time to stand ground as opposed to negotiate, he was well prepared and persuasive. In my opinion Family Law is a good fit for Ted and I'd certainly prefer to have him on my team than face him as my opposition counsel.

Ted was a straight shooter in my divorce. He always gave me enough information to make a good decision. He took into account costs. I always felt like he was on my side and looking out for my best interests. I will recommend Ted for any future legal issues.

It is never a pleasant realization when one finds the need for legal counsel. Fortunately, at that unfortunate moment I found Theodore Finn. I was impressed by his quick grasp of my case specifics and the pertinent laws and applicable case statutes. I was further impressed that he recalled details of my case even after several months time passed between my initial cold-call contact and second inquiry. He demonstrated the knowledge and ability to play legal "hard ball", but also patiently informed me of other avenues that might be effective. I found this in fresh contrast to other "cold-calls" made where the intake process was kept to a minimum in order to schedule billable hour appointments. I would highly recommend Theodore Finn as an attorney.

Mark did a great job with my motorcycle accident. We didn't have to pay back my health insurer anything and all my medical bills were paid. After a short law suit we settled for over 300k. The insurer offered me almost nothing before I hired Mark. He earned every part of his fee and then some.

I met with Daniel Kapsak along with my Grandmother through the education\planning and final copy of her Will\Trust. We found him to be professional, knowledgeable and very helpful with the process. He always met face to face with us. He took time and was very clear with explaining so that my grandmother understood the process and the choices she was making. Her concerns, wishes and ideas were his priority, and she never felt rushed or had unanswered questions. My Grandmother has since passed away, and my husband and I have been very pleased with all the documents as we have settled her estate. Daniel Kapsak met with us, and gave us direction and assistance. Everything has been complete, and in order. We did need and use the health care power of attorney and financial power of attorney, these made everything clear and stress free. The trust has made the whole process seamless and smooth. We appreciate the peace of mind Mr. Kapsak brought my Grandmother, and now for us.

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Longmont, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
