My husband and I had started to do some estate planning but then got stalled. The process seemed daunting and I knew that we needed help. Thankfully we found Cole and after my first meeting with him I knew that we would move forward with him. We have a blended family a few complex issues and Cole navigated us through everything seamlessly. Cole is a people person and explains everything in a thoughtful manner. We have such relief knowing that this essential planning is done for us and we are protected from probate. This is all thanks to Cole. We highly recommend him to anyone needing estate planning services.

We hired Jeff Althaus to help us with all things estate, wills, and trusts. What can be daunting, confusing and heavy discussions, Jeff made easy and at times enjoyable. We appreciated his detailed itinerary of our homework assignments after each meeting, the thoroughness of explaining all the documents, the depth to which he took us on how to consider our wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and caregivers in the event of our passing. We are very grateful we have this completed and feel confident in our hiring of Jeff to help us with the process.

Chris took care of all my current estate needs and provided me with valuable guidance as to every facet I needed to address, including things I did not think about. In particular, I needed a beneficial deed for my property which was a little more complex than the usual deed, and he was able to produce exactly the deed I needed. I enjoyed working with him and if I need anything else later in this arena, I will be working with him again. A pleasure to work with!

When my vehicle was torpedoed by a Broomfield City transit van, that failed to signal before diving into my lane, I immediately contacted Hull & Zimmerman for advice on how to proceed. Rick Hull courteously helped and advised me throughout the long, drawn-out process. Mr. Hull very much went against my common expectations that contacting an attorney would immediately trigger an expense that I could in no way afford. Instead, before the question of payment was even touched upon, Rick spent a great deal of time with me on multiple occasions on the phone and via email to guide and advise me through the steps I must take before even considering hiring an attorney. I highly recommend Rick Hull to anyone in search of an honest and trustworthy legal representative, and conclude with his own words that for me solidify why I would never recommend any other personal injury law firm: "I know it is not instant gratification, but do it once and do it correctly...Good luck and always know that I am here for you on this or any other matter." Why would you want anything less from your legal firm?

Mr. Zimmerman has helped me with problems only a exceptional attorney could handle on multiple occasions with different legal issues. On a scale of one to ten, ten being best I would give him a ten plus.

I had a workers' comp case, which I thought was complicated by other events at work. Mike is very straightforward and informs you what is important in workers' comp law and what is not. He is very straightforward on what your case is worth, and explains injury caps. Working with Pinnacol, he selected an independent doctor who was 100% on my side helping our case. Joann was great about leaving messages, on my phone and following up with email. I felt like I didn't have to fight anymore and trusted him to do it for me and he did a great job.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Northglenn, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
