Dianne was referred to me through Legal Shield, a service offered through my employment to help me with my Child Support Modification initiated by my ex-wife. We established a client-attorney relationship after a short phone consult in late December 2023. There were some technical difficulties submitting my retainer payment of $3,500 online into her preferred MyCase Client Portal. I ended up paying her first invoice of $1,423 by credit card for services she had already completed. Shortly after that transaction was paid, my inital retainer payment of $3,500 was finally withdrawn from my checking account. I figured I might as well keep it there since my case was still open. Dianne ghosted me days before a scheduled telephone pretrial hearing with the Courts. My repeated calls, texts, and messages were unreturned until the day before the meeting! I was so stressed and panicked thinking that I am no longer represented. Fortunately, we were able to settle my case prior to our court appearance. But the opposing counsel also had difficulties getting a response from Dianne near the agreed deadline. We were able to eventually finalize and signed everything through the Courts on February 29, 2024. Dianne has now ghosted me again after numerous requests to have her send me the final invoice for her services and still has my $3,500 retainer captive for nearly 2 months!! I'm not sure what is going on now. I see multiple 5 star reviews early on but this is not my encounter with her recently.

Dianne is very experienced and knowledgeable. I found her to be extremely compassionate during a time that I needed support, and she understood that there was a human in the equation from the start. I interviewed several attorneys and I found that Dianne was the most relatable, intuitive listener in the interview process. She answered my many questions about legal processes and documents, helping me understand the construct of what I was going through. I was more confident with her on my team, and while I believe no one wins in divorce, I think she helped me wrap my head around my own situation and take control of my outcome.

Firstly thank you so very much Dianne for your exceptional ability to not only be an amazing lawyer but an even better friend! Honestly I can’t imagine enduring for what felt like an eternity and the end of the world (At the time) with any other lawyer. For anyone reading this trust me there’s honestly no need to look any further. I highly doubt that you’ll find any one as passionate and caring as Dianne, thank you once again!

Dianne came into my case post-decree and helped tremendously with a child support matter in which I suspected the other party wasn't disclosing their income accurately. It was a complex motion to respond to. Dianne handled it with assertive grace, leading to resolution in mediation and without the judge needing to make a ruling. A handful of other motions or issues have arisen in my case over the past couple of years, and Dianne has consistently managed to put the fires out while minimizing the impact to both parties. She has helped turn my case from high-conflict to relatively cooperative and stable - something I didn't think was ever going to happen. Overall, Dianne has advocated for me in a way my previous attorneys weren't able to. She is highly knowledgeable of the law but helps me understand legal concepts in plain English. She acts with integrity, and I've always felt that she cares about me as her client and as a person. I highly recommend Dianne.

We have a good knowledge of other facets of Law but of course we are not Personal Injury attorneys. It is refreshing to speak with someone who #1 Listens intently #2 is respectful of our knowledge and patient in his explanations of how things will work in this realm #3 Converses with us as team members and intellectual equals rather than being arrogant and condescending like so many other attorneys we have worked with through the years and he has earned our trust and respect.

Joshua Stoll was my lawyer for an accident that I had. He and his team were very professional. I am not very good with technology but had to use that as I live in another state so I just couldn't go into the office. Joshua and his team were very understanding.

I have worked with Margaret Polson for over 15 years. During that time, Margaret drafted and filed over 200 patents and various IP instruments for me and my company. And Margaret has helped manage over 60 challenges or infringements on many of these patents with a 100% success rate. She moved from her original firm to create her own IP Specialty firm. I was happy to follow her and maintain the solid working relationship that I have enjoyed and benefitted from these many years. Her professional demeanor and acute understanding of complex issues has been refreshing and never urbane nor pedantic. Her communication skills make it a pleasure to work with her and her staff. I highly recommend her for all issues regarding IP law. I have directed many other colleagues in my business circles to her to their great benefit. I expect to continue with Margaret as my principal IP attorney as long as I am in need of IP protection and representation.

We are now in our thirties with 3 kids, and Chuck helped us complete our estate planning. Chuck made the experience a positive one, even though this isn't a particularly fun subject for most people. We have peace of mind knowing we have taken this important step with someone we trust.

Charles helped my wife and I put a Living Will and Last Will and Testament together. He was very knowledgeable, helpful, made great suggestions, and was patient as we had several questions. Above all, he is honest, trustworthy, and full of integrity. I've also consulted with him on a few other matters in the past decade. His input has always been invaluable.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Westminster, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
