My world exploded with the unexpected arrest by Federal Agents of my son in 2011. I was referred by a local lawyer to Richard Meehan and within minutes I knew where and when my son was going to be arraigned. That was the beginning of a legal process that took 14 months to complete. What were the outstanding characteristics of my experience with Richard Meehan? 1. Sensitive and understanding. My wife and I both found in Richard someone who was compassionate to our situation. We had the impossible situation we found ourselves in made understandable, and we received a complete education about what the process was, what were the possibilities, what was reasonable to expect, and what were the best choices in terms of cost and benefit. This was done without either minimizing nor being judgmental in regards to the criminal activities of our son. 2. Honest and direct. We were not protected in any way from the reality of the situation we faced with our son. We were able to face this because we knew what had happened. When confronting our son was necessary, Richard did this and helped the whole process of honest facing of facts and an appropriate response occur. There never was an occasion where I distrusted or questioned Richard's honesty or integrity. He knew how to remind other individuals connected to the case where appropriate boundaries of conduct were, and held them to respect those boundaries. 3. Great communication. We never had to wait for a question to be answered or an issue to be addressed - whether by phone call or email - or a request to come into the office - Richard enabled us to be certain that everything was being addressed and was being dealt with. When something in the case came up, we knew about it the same day as Richard did. 4. Competence. Richard knew the law, and he knew human beings - on either side of the aisle. We had confidence that our son was getting excellent representation - we never doubted that. As we came to the sentencing phase we were guided in our letters so that the final versions were the best that they could be. In conclusion, 16 months after the sentencing was concluded, I remain convinced that Richard Meehan set the standard for excellence in legal representation for my family.
