Where to begin?! In June of 2019 I was placed in a very scary legal situation during my professional career. I reached out to Attorney Mark Sherman and his team to help fight for me and get me through. Both Attorney Mark Sherman and Attorney Amanda Telesco were nothing but phenomenal. From the moment I called the office I felt at ease. They were kind, compassionate, understanding, non-judge mental, and most of all realistic. I made several trips to the office in Stamford. All of these trips were welcoming and helped put me at ease. Mark and Amanda sat with me, went over all the details of the case, explained everything to me, and assured me they would do everything in their power to fight for a positive outcome. As we all know, the legal system is slow. But during the 16+months I worked with Mark and Amanda, they kept me abreast of the entire case and the direction it was moving. I received phone calls, emails and at one point they even met with me in my area of the state. In September of 2020 I received the call that I had long awaited. Attorney Sherman called me and informed they fought hard and the case resolved in the manner we had hoped for. In an instant, my whole life changed for the better and I felt like my old self. So many times I felt like giving up and giving in. Attorney Sherman encouraged me to stay the course and let he and Attorney Telesco do what they do best. I am sure glad I listened! Without their hard work, compassion, knowledge and experience, I wouldn’t have received the positive outcome I knew should come! I am forever grateful to Attorneys Mark Sherman and Amanda Telesco. If you are faced with a legal or DCF dilemma, I STRONGLY encourage you to call Attorney Sherman’s office.

Mark and his team assisted me with a situation that occurred at Foxwoods casino. They were thorough, patient, competent, and a pleasure to work with. Mark and his team got the job done with excellent results. They have detailed knowledge of the legal system and how to navigate it to produce desired results in a timely manner. I couldn’t recommend them highly enough.

During a profoundly difficult period for my family, we had the privilege of being represented by Attorney Caitlan Murphy from the Law Office of Mark Sherman LLC, based in Stamford, CT. From the outset, Attorney Murphy's remarkable recall of case facts and dedication to our cause was evident. She demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to our case, working tirelessly to advocate on our behalf. What truly set Attorney Murphy apart was her meticulous attention to detail. First-time homebuyer. Our realtor recommended Clare Bolduc as our real estate attorney. I couldn't have been happier with that recommendation. Right from the start she was open to all my questions and concerns. Being very new at this I needed someone to walk me through the entire process, and Clare did just that. She went over every point with me and responded very timely to any questions I had. We spent significant time on the phone going over every last detail. Upon hiring her, Clare gave me a flat quote for her services, which, at the time, I thought was very fair. I personally think she undercharged. With the amount of footwork she had to do and how she continues to go to bat for me with the sellers even after we closed I feel I got great value in hiring her. She's really good. At her previous law firm it only took her 3 years to make partner. That's VERY quick. She definitely knows the ins and outs of her profession and I would be very happy to hire her again if the need arises. She even made a point to provide some distractions for my 2-year-old son during the closing so my wife and I could sign the documents. 5 gold stars from me. Very satisfied. Highly recommend for ANYONE doing ANYTHING that needs an attorney in CT or NY. Thank you, Clare.

As first time home buyers, my husband and i had A LOT of questions! The ones our realtor couldn't help answers we asked to Clare and not only did she always know the answer but she responded to us very quickly. We hardly ever waited more than an hour to hear back from her which always put us at ease during the stressful moments. As you're looking for a Attorney for real estate transactions, we highly, highly would recommend working with Clare! We would do it all over again if we had to!

Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Greenwich, Connecticut?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
