We looked for an Immigration Attorney for over a year before deciding to contact and hire Dana. Our case was more complex than most. Dana is great! Down to earth, compassionate, straight forward and without prejudice. Dana helped me make a 30 year dream come true and I will be forever grateful!

Dana and her staff were very professional in handling our case. They helped us work through the application process as well as the interview at the end with a great prep session. We appreciate all the effort put into our application and would recommend Dana and her team.

My immigration situation had been deemed a lost cause for the past 12 years based on the advice of two immigration attorneys working independently of each other. Out of desperation I reached out to attorney Dana Bucin who reviewed what had been determined to be a hopeless case and she in turn countered everything that I had been previously advised. She was extremely thorough taking her own initiative to write us a brief with all the respective legal points that supported correcting my situation. She at times acted as our therapist when we began to drag our feet in fear especially in this unfriendly Trump administration, as she continued to convince my husband and I on the merits of correcting my immigration status and taking charge of my life. She is a force of nature and held our hand as I anxiously came out of the shadows following her lead during the entire process. With Michael her paralegal, they were available and responsive to all and any questions that we had. Dana is thoroughly knowledgeable of immigration law, not easily cowed and is definitely a great emissary. When we finally had our immigration interview she surprised us even further coming prepared with additional briefs to hand to the officer that put to rest any questions that he or his supervisor might have had. Dana gave me my life back and because of her I realize just how heavy the load had been. I would highly recommend Dana to anyone who has a difficult case….she will make every effort to find the right solution.

From the moment I walked in the door and met with Dana for my consultation I knew she was different from the rest: she had a heart. Immigration matters affect lives and you need someone who truly cares and shows that in their approach to legal representation. Even though we had a “qualified” lawyer prior to my meeting with Dana, I could tell that something was exceptional about her. She walked me through my I-751 process step by step, gave me advice, listened when I had questions and was very responsive to my (impatient) emails hoping to get updates. I can proudly say our application was successfully approved one week after my spouse and I went in for our interview. we could not have done it without Dana’s guidance and the care she took to treat us like we really mattered. No lawyer was so thorough or patient with us - and that’s why we would recommend her to anyone and everyone seeking a competent lawyer.

When I was younger I got into a LOT of trouble. Attorney Nawrocki was always there for me when I needed her to get me out of trouble or to at least get me in less trouble than I would have been in without her. I first met her when she was appointed to my case as a special public defender but she was really smart, caring and compassionate so I hired her twice more when I got in trouble again (I had REALLY bad judgement when I was young) and she always did a great job for me and she let me make a payment plan because I was very broke

Finding a Lawyer that is Trustworthy,Knowledgeable,Responsive, and that is genuinely concerned in Her Clients WellBeing. I Can tell you that finding all those qualities in one lawyer is"Like Winning the Lottery" Before Finding Atty.Nawrocki, I Consulted a Dozen other Lawyers, most of them made me feel that they were doing me a favor, and did not answer my questions or gave me incomplete answers, I Felt as though I was being looked at not as a felow human being, but rather i was being Summed up as a Dollar figure, I Felt like my time was just being waisted. Then I Found a Fellow Human Being That was a Smart Lawyer at the Law Firm of Susan A Nawrocki. I Realy can not say enough about Atty Nawrocki, Except if you want to have an Experienced,Knowledgeable Lawyer, that will treat you with the Utmost Genuine Concern and Respect. Then you need to look know further.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Hartford, Connecticut?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
