After one year of working with another divorce attorney I felt it was in my best interest to hire someone new. A friend recommended Tracey and I could not be happier with the results. Tracey was one of the bright spots during my contentious divorce. She guided me through the entire process from filing paperwork, to pretrials to finalizing my settlement. She was by my side every step of the way. She explained things to me with patience and detail and not once made me feel helpless. She gave me the confidence I needed to move forward. Tracey has a strong eye for detail and didn’t miss a beat. Her calmness, caring and understanding was exactly what I needed to deal with my ex and his attorneys antics and demanding demeanor. She is thorough and tough but truly cares about her client and their children. I would probably still be in a situation that was not good had it not been for her. The outcome was excellent and exactly what I hoped for. I am so relieved I hired her. You will want Tracey by your side!

It has been a pleasure working with Attorney Calabrese. She demonstrated patience, compassion, and a willingness to listen to my concerns. She was professional, courteous and attentive to all our needs. She was exceptional with keeping us up to date with the case. She handles matters in a timelyfashion, and was very kind when dealing with us. We really appreciate all she did for us. She was more like a close friend helping us than our lawyer.

Typically I don't leave reviews, however in this instance Chris Dunn is well deserving of this one. I had a case that needed an experts opinion. I spoke with another attorney previously and this... person wanted to charge me $400 to review the case for 60 mins or $750 for 120 mins. Now let me beclear, I respect everyone's time and understand very little things in this is free. I also have no issue paying for a service. Keeping that in mind, I asked this same attorney what would happen if during this discussion it was determined that I did not have a case? Without a hesitation he told me that I would still owe him the $400 regardless of if I had a case or not, regardless if I used the entire 60 minutes or not. Again I say I don't expect anything for free, I was more than willing to pay a portion of the fee IF I didn't have a case. Unfortunately/fortunately that conversation left such an awful taste in my mouth I was motivated to search for another option. My findings directed me toward Chris Dunn. I reached out with very low expectations thanks to the last... person I expected a similar experience with the minimal hope of at least a non condescending tone like the last... person. When Chris responded, not only was he warm and empathetic but he also asked intelligent questions that helped to uncover my needs and devise a game plan. We went back and forth into the late hours discussing options and what would and wouldn't work. To make a long story short, Chris Dunn set the bar for what an attorney should be and how an attorney should act and respond to a potential client that is involved in a stressful situation. If you are looking for an honest, fair and willing to go to bat for you Attorney look no future. Chris is your guy, thank you for all that you do.

No one ever wants to be in a position to need an attorney, but recently I found myself in that place. I had gone on FMLA due to my disability flaring up and when it was time to return to work I was told my position was no longer available to me. I knew this was wrong so I started the process of looking for a lawyer who could help me navigate this situation. I spoke with 3 different attorneys, but Mr. Dunn was by far the most empathetic, and quite frankly, most qualified person I spoke with. I hired him to write a letter to my company and was so pleased with the outcome. Not only did my company magically have a position for me, I was moved to a different team (one that I wanted to be moved to). Since returning to work, things have gone well and I feel heard, respected, and I am being treated fairly. If not for Christopher Dunn, I would have lost my job and would still be looking for a new one. If you find yourself in the unfortunate position of needing a lawyer, please don't hesitate to hire Mr. Dunn. Not only will he do what is best for you, he will exceed your expectations!

Chris was great to work with. His response times were very quick which always made me feel like a priority and he explained the law in a simple way that made it easy for me to understand. He provided updates through the whole process so I was never left wondering where I stood. I always knew what the next step was and what actions needed to be taken or were being taken. When I first reached out he set up time to speak to me and hear my whole story, then provided great feedback on options to move forward. I would HIGHLY recommend Chris to anyone, these types of situations can be kind of scary and intimidating, and it’s important to have someone representing you that you trust and know has your best interest in mind and I felt that way through each step. I can’t thank Chris enough!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Madison, Connecticut?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
