I was in an automobile accident right before Christmas last year. When a vehicle hit me from behind...I was someone what scared and didn't know what to do. I reached out to attorney Monique Foley and she was a professional and very knowledgeable. Indeed it was a tremendous stress free experience. Thanks a million aka Donnie Brasco lol.

Monique kept me informed every step of the way. She responded to all my emails within 5 minutes 99.9999% of the time. She made sure that I understood what was going on and was patient with me while I made my decisions. During a mediation it was evident that she is well respected in her field by other attorneys; that solidified my feelings regarding her efficacy, knowledge and my decision to have her represent me. I would recommend Monique to ANYONE looking for legal counsel.

I hired her for a car accident case. Two months after, I moved to a neighboring state. Paperwork was not completed in a timely manner as promised and I had to reach out and get her caught up on the recent updates I shared weeks ago. I dealt with two different assistants. She eventually (about 6 months later) contacted me more often to tell me when to get my money, but it was already too late. I was not at fault and my car was totaled. The amount she won for my case is over $10K+ lower than anyone I spoke to the last 3+ years with similar or less severe case. The amount I owned was not enough to pay bills and any loans I had to take to avoid being homeless or get additional mental and physical therapy. I am writing this review years later because this case truly set me back financially, physically, and emotionally. I have not been the same ever since. I hope this reminds her to give every case the appropriate amount of attention.

I was facing 5-40 minimum mandatory sentence for conspiracy to distribute cocaine. The DEA had caught me physically with a kilogram, and they had incriminating wire tap recordings, photographs, videos, even helicopter surveillance. Thanks to Monique, I got probation instead, and a lot of my property was returned including the car that the kilogram was found in. She was super communicative and helpful the whole way.

Monique was exceptional in handing my personal injury/ car accident case. Communication over the last 2.5 yrs was very thorough. I never felt left in the dark. She guided me in my options to settle with the rental car company as opposed to settling with the defense. Taking the rental company's settlement was a much better offer. Monique is personable and down- to -earth, however she knows when to fight for the best outcomes for her client. Also the Ferry Law office offers personalized yoga to their inured clients in their newly designed yoga studio on site! Thanks Mo!

I can’t say enough about my experience with Mr. Sherman. I had a DUI and a firearm was involved as well. Mr. Sherman assured me he could get me back to where I was prior to the incident. The process was explained to me by Mr. Sherman every step of the way. I had my pistol permit reinstated in a timely manner. I highly recommend Mr. Sherman if you are in a similar predicament. Thanks again Mr. Sherman! Steve

I was arrested in 2007 for insurance fraud and subsequently received accelerated rehabilitation. I successfully completed it and life went on. Fast forward to 2024, I applied for my pistol permit and there was a question “have you ever been arrested?” I didn’t know how to answer legally so I contacted Ralph. Ralph ran my criminal record for a nominal fee to ensure I can answer correctly on my permit application. I came back squeaky clean, and was instructed by Ralph to answer “No”. I submitted my application and received my license to carry permit today, thanks to Ralph! If you’re not sure, have Ralph run your criminal history to be sure. Otherwise, it’s an arrestable offense to “lie” (or be incorrect) on an application! Thanks again Ralph!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of New Britain, Connecticut?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
