4
Successful track record of achieving favorable outcomes for clients
“Thanks to Nina's expert counsel, I didn't end up needing to bring her in to negotiate on my behalf. She guided me from behind the scenes, expertly helping me navigate when to push back vs. when to let it go. I'm so pleased with the final deal.”

Genuinely cares about their clients' best interests
“Nina Pirrotti has earned her reputation as one of the top employment lawyers in the country. She is knowledgable, wise, fierce, compassionate, professional, and an expert negotiator. Thanks to her, I felt protected and strong throughout our entire journey toward victory.”
Cons
1
Unwillingness to provide free initial consultations or brief advice
“No free advice for anything. I had a question that would take only a minute to answer and they wouldn't even answer it. Ridiculous.”
2
Selective in the cases they choose to take on
“Do not waste your time. Apparently they pick and choose which cases they'd like to take on regardless of the fact that almost every person contacting them has had racial discrimination. Red flag and so glad we didn't go forward with them!”

This the second time I have worked with this firm, the first being a significant issue 30+ years ago. They were genuine, compassionate, patient and successfully resolved the situation. Having just had the pleasure of working with Josh Goodbaum I can say that those qualities have continued over time. They are without doubt an 11 on a scale of 1-10.

My case settled a few months ago and I still think of Nina and Josh often and the absolutely stellar way they handled the case from beginning to end. They have given me more than a financial settlement...they gave me back my dignity. I regard my 4 years of teamwork with Nina and Josh as one of the greatest "projects" that I ever managed and an unfortunate but perfectly acceptable way to end a career when the first preference was illegally taken away. Nina and Josh are legal rock-stars and I'm sure there are many great lawyers out there, but it is their compassion for their clients situation that sets their firm apart and certainly made all the difference to me.

Attorney McConnell and his staff were great, and very attentive to my needs. Divorce is terrible regardless of the circumstance, and when children are involved it makes it that much harder. However, thanks to Attorney McConnell and his staff, we were able to reach a positive outcome quickly, and with as little pain as possible. Highly recommend.

From the moment I reached out to them, I knew I was in good hands. I was able to work with attorney Heidi de la Rosa and her compassionate approach to my case, especially when it came to child custody and support, touched my heart. She fought for what was best for my child and me, proving their team to be more than just lawyers but true advocates for our well-being.

I had never been arrested or needed a criminal attorney before, so I had no idea who to call. I was recommended to the Duffy Law Group by a trusted friend. Who is a man of integrity and honesty. I trusted his advice, spoke with Felice Duffy and then met with Attorney Smith. He was great to work with; very professional, helpful and down -to -earth. He walked with me through this whole ordeal. I am so pleased with Attorney Smith and this firm. The charges against me, were greatly reduced. I highly recommend them.

Felice and her team at Duffy Law are some of the best lawyers in CT. I had really struggled to find the right attorney to represent me in my battle with a CT university. When I met Felice, I knew I had the right person. Her ability to understand and advocate for her clients is so powerful. I would recommend her to anyone dealing with discrimination in education.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of New Haven, Connecticut?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
