When nothing but the best will do, call these guys! We had the pleasure of having Thom Esposito represent us. Every step of the way, Thom was fully in charge of the case, knew what to expect and how best to deal with it, always with our family’s best interest in mind. Always! It was a very difficult time in our lives, but having Welty, Esposito & Wieler on our side gave me peace of mind. Not only is Thom Esposito an excellent attorney, he is very kind, understanding, compassionate and non judgmental. Highly recommend!

Attorney Esposito and his team were god sent. I had a serious matter that needed mitigation through the local court system and Attorney Esposito and his team made everything all better for my family and I. Things were difficult, but with Thomas and his team by my side I felt confident that I was in good hands. They got the resolution that I was looking for and I couldn’t be happier. If you want top notch legal defense or counsel then look no further than Attorney Thomas Esposito.

I recently was represented by Atty. Esposito in regards to a custody issue I had with my daughter’s mother. Needless to say these situations are stressful and take a toll. Atty. Esposito experience, professionalism, knowledge and patience not only provided me with a great outcome, but also for my daughter! There is no question I would highly recommend Atty. Esposito. I simply just can’t thank him enough and the stress of the last year is gone!!! Also wanted to thank Atty Hansen and Tanya for all they did for my daughter and I. Thank you all and Happy New Year! Mike

After being represented by Clifford Garnett for 5 years, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that he has been one of the best attorneys I've ever retained. Detail oriented, quick to respond to correspondence, and fights for you and your child's interests. Attorney Garnett represented me for child support order modification, custody, and termination of parental rights. He invests time needed and is realistic when setting client expectations. Reasonably priced and I couldn't have been more thrilled with the results. He doesn't nickle and dime you like some attorneys do. If you had reservations about hiring him, this is your sign to go ahead and retain him.

I retained Attorney Feldman for the negotiation and handling of the sale of our property in Hamden. Since I had already relocated overseas most of the transaction happened over phone, Skype and e-mail. He did an outstanding job assisting me during the negotiation phase with the buyer through drafting the contract and closing. I feel I got the best possible advice and could trust him 150%. Communications were efficient and clear. No surprises. I can recommend Mr Feldman without reservations.

My company and I have worked with Richard for years and I've never had a reason to complain. He's knowledgeable, efficient and doesn't waste anytime resolving the issues at hand. He's assisted us with commercial financing, bankruptcy and defended our interests when necessary. He and his staff respond promptly to calls, question and provides additional explanations when necessary. Whenever I've got an issue in Connecticut, Richard's my go to guy.

Attorney Boni Vendola is exceptional! Our family went through an incredibly difficult custody battle, and Corrine handled it with high integrity, smart legal counsel, and helped our family to feel we had someone in our corner fighting for us. She helped give us hope during a difficult process.

First of all, Attorney Boni-Vendola is an outstanding lawyer and I give my strongest recommendation. Attorney Boni-Vendola is my third lawyer for my divorce case, and I only regret I didn't find her earlier. My first lawyer is from a pretty well-known firm and was referred to me by someone I work with. But very surprisingly, she went to the judge's chamber and made a deal on behalf of me against my will (even though I was very clear about what I wanted before she went to see the judge). Furthermore, she pressured me to sign the agreement. Thinking back, I don't think she was ill intentioned, she just wanted to get me divorced as soon as she could and she may not have enough experience for cases like mine. After talking with other professionals, they all suggested me to change a lawyer. With a friend's referral, I started with my 2nd lawyer. He is super nice, but he is very busy and didn't have much time for my case. I had worked with him for a little over a year (COVID made all the divorce cases delayed) and felt very frustrated. That's when a professional recommended Attorney Boni-Vendola. Attorney Boni-Vendola is a completely different experience! She is very experienced (you will know by the suggestions she gives, how she works with another party and the judges), efficient (never waste your time when speaking with you, and get right to the point), listened to what I wanted and fought on my behalf, would not let me waste money on things not necessary. Most importantly, she was after me for what I should do, not the other way around. Examples include knowing that I wanted the divorce trial to happen ASAP, she filed for objection right after my ex-husband submitted his request to postpone the trial date. I only found out these activities through online notifications altogether with judge's approval to our objection a couple of days later. I really appreciate the way she handled this and her consideration because it would only add my worry if I knew. She also standed on my point of view to think and gave me invaluable advice. Mostly importantly, she did not pressure me on anything. I am very grateful that I had her as my attorney and I strongly recommend her without any reservation.

I hired Corrine to help me with my divorce in 2008, based on a friend’s recommendation. She helped me and supported me during a very difficult time, as did her entire staff. Since then she has helped me with several things such as Wills, Living Wills, etc. Her firm has always treated me fairly financially and they have promptly helped me with anything I have ever asked for. She is a true professional. Look no further.

My husband and I had a great experience hiring attorney JD DiMenna for our estate planning needs. He was very responsive and accommodating and answered our questions thoroughly. He covered all of the bases to ensure we had a comprehensive plan and made the process easy and stress free. I would recommend him to family and friends for sure. He and his firm seem very organized and professional. He met with us on two separate occasions in locations convenient to us to review our answers to a simple questionnaire he provided, sparing us the tedium of going over lengthy and confusing legal documents and boiling the meeting down to what we needed to know.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of New Haven, Connecticut?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
