Attorney Ziolkowski was spectacular in every way. He was attentive to my concerns and addressed them with success in court. Thanks to him I have my children back from their father who withheld them out of state. A+

An attorney I could never forget. Helped me tremendously and successfully in a family case twice. Even helped me a couple of times with my son's school. Ryan is incredibly smart but will have no issue telling you if you've done something in which he disapproves. For sure someone you want on your side legally. I'm happy to see he's doing so well now.

Ryan helped me during mediation. He gave me excellent and specific advice and expectations about what to ask for in my divorce. I retained him but did not use him as my attorney of record. My (now)ex-wife and I decided to use her lawyer because he was less expensive, but he miscalculated my child support payments and said they were 50% higher than they should have been. I was able to factually argue him and tell him that he miscalculated and he went back and recalculated and the amount was reduced to the numbers that Ryan said they would be. He knows his stuff. I've also used Ryan for financial matters (creating a will). He's very honest and knowledgable.

Paige represented us in a year long custody/ relocation case involving my daughter. She called very often to keep us up on the latest news etc. There was also never a time where I couldn't get a hold of her ( even after hours ). She poured her heart & soul into our " impossible case " to fight for what was right & to keep my family together. Against all odds & opinions of some colleagues , she saw it through to the end. It was SO comforting to know I had a genuine friend on my side instead of some heartless robot who would settle a case at the drop of a hat to save their reputation when things get tough. She won a true David & Goliath battle for me & my family. It is only because of Paige & the Lord above that I was / am able to remain active in my daughter's life! Truly a blessing ! There are not words to describe how grateful I am !!!!!

Atty Pazzaglia represented me in a car accident case where I sustained significant injuries. The Insurance company claimed it wasn't their client's fault. He proved they were at fault. He is professional and intelligent, and fought for me. Thank you 5 Stars

Attorney Pazzaglia represented me in an injury matter. The insurance adjuster and attorney had denied any liability resulting from my injury. At this point, I sought Dave's help. Dave explained to me how the process works in Connecticut and how insurance companies and defense lawyers handle these matters. Dave kept me informed and updated throughout the long process. Attorney Pazzaglia eventually pushed forward for a trial with the claim which was denied all along. Right before trial, he was able to secure a favorable settlement for a substantial sum. I definitely would recommend this lawyer.

It’s very rare that you get a lawyer, who cares, although whether or not care is a factor does not represent the level of expertise an Attorney, has, I think care carries with it, a devotion to win, a passion to fight and understanding, The attorneys at Koch, Garg, and Brown care Enough to stay side-by-side, and fight hard with you to get justice

Very well-respected and has good relationships throughout the court system by peers, prosector, and judges. I'd argue this is but ONE of THE MOST important qualities when hiring an attorney. (Their relationships with their peers, judges, and those in the court) Ted is sharp and his analytical skills and innovative strategies were applied to the case. Ted understands the intricacies of the cofusing legal system; especially the local one and was able to translate the complex legal jargon into easily understandable terms. Also sense of humor for high stress relief. His office staff is very helpful and compassionate.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Niantic, Connecticut?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
