Alan represented me in a personal injury claim a few years ago. I had contacted multiple lawyers before contacting Alan, all of whom said I had no case. Alan not only enthusiastically took my case, he won my case and got me a substantial settlement. Highly recommend Alan to anyone looking for a personal injury lawyer. He's a no non-sense, fight for his client, stand up guy.

Eric Higgins was, and continues to be, an incredible help and support to me. He has been professional, intelligent, confident, compassionate, and very patient throughout the stressful process of divorce and beyond. He is a genuinely kind and caring person, and takes the time to listen to all my concerns. I never have felt rushed or that time was "running out." I am very happy with the outcome, and his continued support through any bumps in the road that have arisen since. I would give Eric my highest recommendation.

We never thought that one day we would need to look for a Family Law Attorney for help, but life at times brings us unexpected sudden events! We were extremely rewarded when we were referred to The Law Offices of Rashmi N. Patel. We still remember details of our first conversation, occurred on the same day in which she was asked to call us back, but the major one is that we noticed that above all we were speaking with a True Human Being, instead of just an Attorney! In anything that one does in life, it does not matter at what level, sense of Humanity needs to be present, a cordial smile should be seen even over the phone, and the W.I.T. will to help needs to be firm and honest. We were indeed quite impressed with that phone call and we knew at that moment that we could place our entire Trust on Rashmi N. Patel as we did feel that she would get the job done!Well, let me tell you! We were right! She immediately became familiar with our case, asked important questions and moved forward with the process.During its course, which was not very long at all, she proved herself to be a very clever and experienced Family Law Attorney, firm on her words, truthful on her commitment, and kind on her guidance. When in Court at the first required appearance, on a very crucial part of the litigation, she proved again to be a Winner! Not a Winner on that moment, but a Winner of all! What Rashmi did that day, how she professionally performed, and how she guided us showed once again that we were dealing with a Fighter, not for her Rights, but to defend ours, which became as important to her than they were at the time to ourselves! We did not measured words to express our sincere appreciation for all that she wanted to do, did, and we knew she would do!Every time we needed her; she was there. Every time we e-mailed her, she got right back. Every time we texted her, she texted back. Every time we called, she called back! All of the many conference calls we had were done timely and to the point! She did not extend it to be long. She led the conversation to decisively address that important points and got it done efficiently.Rashmi immediate responses showed us how we were important to her and assured us on how rewarded we were in counting with her skilled Legal Services. We knew that when she said we would celebrate Victory that she meant it and she knew within her heart that no unfairness should remain unpunished so that people should somehow be penalized for their unjustified and evil actions! It did not take long, besides many days passing by, for the final honestly Victory come to fruition! We still remember Rashmi N. Patel very strong words when of the very first call: “We will help you!” We for sure do encourage you, if in need of a Family Law or Immigration truly competent Attorney, to call the Law Offices of Rashmi N. Patel. You will not talk with an assistant that will transfer to another Paralegal, and so forth and so forth! You will speak with Rashmi on the first shot and every time you need to!There is a huge difference between people who chose certain Professions because of the “money” involved and people who do what they love to do with the intensity of their soul and passion within their heart!Rashmi is one of them! Rewarding True Success comes not to those who enrich themselves from serving others but from the conviction that we as Humans are on this Earth to Make A Difference to others! Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi) - 1869/1948 - was also an Indian Lawyer, and on one of his most famous Quotes, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”, Gandhi pretty much reinforced our personal view of Rashmi N. Patel, also an Indian Attorney. “By serving others from the heart and soul, the difference that you make to yourself and others is without any doubt quite priceless! Thank you so much, Rashmi! Awesome Legal Performance!

Before writing this review, my family and I are forever grateful and indebted to Rashmi for representing our case & helping us to keep our family together. When we first approached her, we were scared, confused, and clueless about how the case is going to unfold. She listened to the entire case very patiently and offered necessary guidance. She was honest about the chances we had to win. During the whole process, she was very thoughtful, dedicated, and promptly responded to our questions. At times, we lost our hope, but she persistently tried everything to win this case. I am thankful to her and her entire team to help me keep our family together. I highly recommend her expertise and professionalism if you are looking for an Immigration Attorney for any complicated immigration-related issues.

My citizenship case involved multitude of items that had to obtained from various sources (agencies). Some of it was obsolete, some of it was archived, none of it readily available. Once gotten, it then needed to be cross referenced and checked for accuracy. From the distance it looked like a long and winding road. Ms. Patel handled the case with aplomb and alacrity: my case was completed sooner than expected. This attorney is highly effective, very efficient and utmost professional. Thoroughly recommended.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Stamford, Connecticut?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
