I have hired Pam to represent me on a couple of legal cases involving motor vehicle moving violations. Pam has not only responded immediately but communicated with me thoroughly through the process and with great success as all of my outcomes were favorable. She is very passionate about her clients and her occupation and I would highly recommend her!

Pam was highly recommended by a friend, who had observed her exceptional skills in the court room for many, many years. My situation was intensely stressful and overwhelming. My friend said – hands down, you need Pam, not anyone else. Indeed, Pam went above and beyond in her time with me to thoroughly explain all options. She willingly made herself available in all communicative styles. Not only does she know ins/outs of the criminal law, she researched how my situation had professional implications on my career and guided me through the complexities of it. Pam successfully negotiated and achieved outcomes. I highly recommend Pam for her professionalism, keen knowledge, tactful negotiations, and dedicated realism/respect. Thank you, Pam.

Attorney Favreau did a great job of making my court process run smoothly and efficiently, answering any and all questions along the way. She truly prioritizes her clients and is incredibly knowledgeable. She made sure myself, as well as my parents, were comfortable in understanding each step going forward.

Pamala is great at what she does. she helped me with two pending cases I had in two different courts. She didn't continue with my recent case till she made sure the other one was dropped. She represented me to the best of her ability. I truely recommend her.

I have needed a defense attorney twice in my life and can tell you that there are two types; lawyers and then there are fighters. Pam Favreau is a warrior. Even before my court date Pam's style gave me confidence that everything was going to be okay. I felt like I had my own personal guardian and that clearing my mistake was her most important mission! On my court date, I watched other attorneys, similar to my previous one, acting timidly as they defended their clients. I thought to myself how glad I was to have chosen Pam and also how I wish she had been my attorney during my first run in with the law. Thank You Pam, you don't just defend. you stop at nothing to get us out of a jam!!

Sophia Shaikh guided us through the Probate Court, explaining each step along the way in simple, easily understood terms. If we had any questions or concerns, she was always prompt in returning calls, etc. Any and all documents she filed with the court on our behalf, were done in a timely manner. We were kept updated and informed at all times making us feel confident with her knowledge, insight, and experience. She has a lovely optimistic personality, always willing to accommodate us in any way possible. We felt lucky to have her represent us. RFK & CMK

Attorney Shaikh handled a sensitive, embarrassing financial situation (relative without a will/bickering relatives prolonging the matter) with a manner that was friendly, pragmatic and professional. She really came across non judgmental and was truly an advocate for me. She truly knew her probate stuff and was pretty impressive. I'm very happy with her.

MIke and his associates have handled several issues since we moved the company to CT in 2004. They have handled everything from litigation, employment and tax matters for us and always maintained excellent communication regarding status, exposure, etc. I recommend Michael Kopsick without hesitation.

Mike Kopsick is an attorney that exhibits fairness and the principles of good, but don't confuse that with weakness. Mike has the ability to lead the charge in a legal battle for you and win. Mike is one of the most intelligent attorneys that I have ever met and knows how to develop a streatigic plan for a law suit and win. Our corporation has had two occasions to use Mike's services in a law suit, and each time I have been impressed with his approach and ability to control the situation. If you ever need an attorney related to a lawsuit, Mike Kopsick is the go to attorney to contact.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Vernon, Connecticut?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
