Stephen is by far the best real estate lawyer I have ever come across. I recently bought a house that took me more than 7 months to close. Just days before the scheduled initial closing, the bank took the property from the owner which meant the house was foreclose and was offered as a short sale. Stephen, stood by me knowing that I wanted the property. he encourage me, reached out to the other party's attorney to ensure the short sale process was sped up. At the end I got the key to the property with many thanks to the selfless help of Stephen. He is very indispensable and I was able to reach him at work, though his cell phone even at his home phone. This is my second dealing with Stephen, he help closed my first home which I sold in 2018 and now to my new home. I will highly recommend with Stephen.

My wife and I hired Steve to handle a sale and purchase on the same day. Through “speed bumps” along the way ( on the buyers end) Steve was always available to set us at ease with the whole process. Highest recommendation for your legal needs. Thank you Steve you were appreciated.

I couldn't be happier with the help that Stephen Ketaineck provided during our sale and two purchases. We sold one house as a family and bought two condos over the last two months and Mr. Ketaineck was wonderful for all three sales. He explained everything clearly, was easy to talk to, covered the heavy lifting for the negotiations and responded in a timely fashion. I wouldn't hesitate to contact him for any future work and am thrilled with the service he provided to me and my family.

Attorney Lacobelle and staff were so helpful and understanding during one of the most difficult times. I would recommend this firm to anyone who is looking for an attorney who is working for you and not some insurance company. So very happy with the results!

Attorney Ross was recommended to us by an Attorney from Philladelphia, who said he was a great lawyer. When we contacted him he met with us, listened to case, then he walked us through the whole process. He was very attentive to our case, and mostly he took the time to always listen to our case. What I like about him he will take your calls as a client - something rare with many attorneys, listen attentively not to dismiss or interupt you, answer your questions and concerns, and is very reassuring and compassionate in the process. He will fight for you and mostly he know all different solutions to different scenarios. This attorney got me from very worried, to a great solution and peaceful life. I am forever grateful to him. Will use him again for my Naturalization. Thank you attorney Ross!!

MR ROSS TOOK CARE OF MY IMMIGRATION STATUS AND WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND TO MAKE SURE THAT I GOT ALL MY PAPERS. MY SON AND I WILL FOREVER BE GRATEFUL TO MR ROSS BECAUSE WITHOUT HIS KINDNESS, COMPASSION AND CONSIDERATION I WOULD NOT BE HERE TODAY. ANYONE WHO HAS HIM AS A LAWYER WILL BE LUCKY, HE IS NOT JUST A GREAT ATTORNEY BUT ALSO A WONDERFUL PERSON WITH A GOOD HEART, HE HAS AN EXTRAORDINARY SENS OF KNOWLEDGE, LOYALTY AND FOR MOST RESPECT. NO AMOUNT OF MONEY AND THANKS WILL EVER BE ENOUGH TO REPAY MR ROSS FOR EVERYTHING HE HAD DONE FOR US, BECAUSE WHAT HE DID WAS PRICELESS. MR ROSS IS THE BEST FOR SURE!!

Attorney Ross always ensures that my immigration paper work is filed in a timely manner. He gives rapid and meaningful feedback to my questions and concerns. He goes beyond the call of duty. He would drive miles to meet with my sponsoring agency to obtain the proper filing paperwork signatures. His fees are affordable. I strongly recommend Attorney Ross to anyone who has immigration cases or in need to immigration advice. He is very approachable, knowledgeable, kind, respectful and will accurately complete your paperwork while meeting important deadlines. He is considered to be the best Immigration Attorney in Connecticut.

I retained Attorney Shore for a divorce agreement modification. All I can say is WOW. Hands down the best Attorney I have ever hired in my entire life. She is tough, smart, and not afraid to tackle difficult and sensitive issues with a firm and caring hand. I have never seen someone stand up for my rights in court the way that Attorney Shore did. She worked with me out of state, spent long hours on my case, all while she was EIGHT MONTHS PREGNANT. I can not put into words what her representation has meant to me and my family. If you do not hire Attorney Shore, you are not hiring the best.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of West Haven, Connecticut?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
