I started following Irina on Instagram and was immediately inspired by her personality and lifestyle. I found Irina to be a compassionate, genuine person who deeply loves both her family and her job. She is passionate about what she does, which is why I specifically chose to work with her over other options I was given. Now, I have 100% proof that my judgment was correct. Despite my case being quite complicated, and at times feeling like I wanted to give up, the support and professionalism of her team kept me going and led to a great outcome in the end. I truly appreciate it and would wish the same experience for anyone going through their immigration process. I want to express a special thank you to Rebecca, the paralegal who worked on my case. She was like a guardian angel by my side—thoughtful, compassionate, and incredibly understanding. I am grateful for the entire team and highly recommend “Palant&Lust” to anyone seeking legal assistance.

Irina has successfully helped me and my family with removing conditions on our green card. Irina and her team have prepared an extensive documentation package and filed it right on time. It was prepared so well we even had our interview waived when it was reviewed. She helped us understanding many most critical aspects of our specific immigration route and supported us every step of the way providing guidance when needed and was available for consultation both on the phone and in the emails. Whenever her office received a document from USCIS it was forwarded to us promptly with an explanation of its meaning. I highly recommend most excellent immigration services of Irina and her office to anyone being serious about achieving their immigration goals - you will absolutely have a great experience and results!

I give my highest recommendation for Dori-Ellen. Her confidence and knowledge could only be considered elite. For anybody going through a divorce or renegotiating the terms of an already settled divorce, she would be the first name out of my mouth.

Helped us get our K-1 visa. Im really glad I decided to get Irina and her team to help with this. It was a little overwhelming and having Irina and her team every step of the way really made a difference. Interview at consulate and final approval took just over 11 months from the time we filed.

We were introduced to Conlon & McGlynn by our friend/realtor. From the start, Louise and Karin were very helpful, very straightforward, and honest in their opinions and recommendations. We utilized their service as closing attorney on a short sale property we put an offer in for. The whole journey took over 6 months. Couldn’t have made it 6 1/2 months through this whole journey without their guidance and expertise in the matter. They helped two people buy a seemingly impossible house! We appreciate everything that the office had done to help push through the legal and red tape bureaucracy. All in all, their flexibility, patience, professionalism, and persistence was unmatched! Thanks for everything!

Divorce is never easy and it wasn't for me, nor my family. I worked closely with Louise through the actual proceedings, and subsequently through a number of post-judgments. At all times, she and her associates displayed amazing patience, empathy, understanding and professionalism for all parties concerned. I whole-heartedly recommend Louise and her firm to anyone facing this life-changing circumstance. Should someone approaching this point in her/his life want to talk about my experience with Louise and her associates, am perfectly willing to connect with whomever.

Conlon & McGlynn is an amazing practice. Louise McGlynn was everything I was looking for in an attorney. She was forceful yet extremely professional; knowledgeable, resourceful and at the same time, was very empathetic to me and my situation. This helped make a very difficult time more much more tolerable. I have already recommended her to others and will continue to do so. I could not have asked for a better firm to represent me.

The best of the best, lawyers with integrity. A rare find, especially in Fairfield county. I’ve been a client for 20+ years and couldn’t recommend a better team. Kevin, Neil, Stephen and Karin are all superstars! I’d be remiss, not to include all of their admins, support staff and everyone that furthers their efforts. I can’t say enough about this firm.

With the guidance and diligence of Ellyn Polishook-Ulfsson, we were able to convert an essentially empty IEP into one full of services our Son not only needs, but deserves. Ellyn's knowledge, expertise, and compassion, are second to none and surely contributed to her ability to exceed our expectations when it mattered most (ie. CSE Meeting.) Highly Recommended!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Westport, Connecticut?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
