Patrick Boyer is the best lawyer in Delaware hands down. Patrick is a great listener and communicator with insight that is clear, concise, professional and extremely superior in legal depth for arguments and cases. This expertise proved Patrick Boyer is undeniably superior any other lawyer in Sussex County. We won our case and I am extremely thankful for Patrick and his solid knowledge of the depth of legal arguments. There is no doubt his representation was the absolute best, especially when in stark contrast to the opposition. I would recommend only one lawyer in all of Delaware and Maryland and that would be Patrick Boyer.

I met Mr. Boyer ,December 2022 . I had a very complicated case. The first time , I looked at him and said to myself ,He is too young ,does He have experience. Then a found out He is an expert, a very good listener, respectful. What was impressive on him ,He feels sorry for you when you don't have money ,helps you to cut cost . He doesn't want just to money from when you don't. He gave me so many advises to lower fees. He doesn't drop your call because you do not have money. My case has been resolved peacefully . Honestly talking if you are looking for a good divorce attorney , contact Mr. Boyer. You will be impressed by his skill and his staff. Thank you Patrick and thank you Regina.

I brought forward a very complex divorce/Ancillary case to Patrick. I experienced 3 other family law attorneys in DE, since 2014. I regret not obtaining Patrick in 2015. Patrick is very smart, eager and worked very hard for me & my case. His primary objective was a solution to benefit me, his client. His transparency was very welcome with hard conversations. He brought a matter forward that no other attorney I obtained even remotely considered or brought up for discussion. He did due diligence to understand my case and all of the proceedings, since 2015. Based on his knowledge & experiences, formulated a strategy to move forward with a resolution. I felt like I had no options and my life would never terminate from the family law matters, until I obtained Patrick. For the first time in 6 years, I felt optimism. I trusted Patrick and that was earned, not automatically granted. I strongly recommend Patrick Boyer if you are in need of a Family Law attorney. Based on my experiences, there's no case that he can't handle with the utmost professionalism, attention to detail, transparency & communications with the ultimate goal of benefiting his client. Since 2014, I obtained 4 Family Law attorneys & can compare each of their impact to my ongoing matter. My ROI with Patrick Boyer is significantly greater then the other 3 attorneys combined. I have never experienced an outcome that was acceptable & positive for me with any other attorney, then the matter with Patrick Boyer. I wasted significant time and money with other attorneys. Patrick is an exceptional attorney!

Marie represented me in a difficult custody litigation. She is smart, strategic and no-nonsense. She is very experienced, which gives her an advantage over other attorneys. She was honest with me and always did the right thing for my child. She was responsive via texts, email, calls and seemed to handle difficult situations with ease. I highly recommend her.

From the very beginning of my divorce process, Marie was practical, calm, informative, and very engaging. As a terrific coach and advisor, she explained every aspect of what to expect and where I might have the best and least likely chances of success. I could not have asked for a more competent and professional expert and litigator working on my behalf.

Marie Crossley made all the difference in achieving a positive outcome to my divorce proceedings. I retained joint custody (50/50) of my three children and the financial settlement determined by the court (child support and alimony) was less than the proposal we offered pre-trial. The process was long and erratic with lots of exaggerated claims of wrongdoing on my part. Throughout, Marie was available, responsive and level-headed. She is an expert at what she does. She knows the law, the system, the opposing attorneys and the judges. She is open to negotiation, but only for a good outcome. She is unfazed by dramatic posturing, sudden changes and unrealistic expectations. She cared about me and my children as clients, not in a schmaltzy manner, but as a professional who knew the outcome would impact my relationship with my children and our financial well being for years to come. The divorce process is horrible for everyone, particularly fathers. Marie knows this; I am truly fortunate to have worked with her.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Centreville, Delaware?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
