Going through a custody battle can be confusing, exhausting and stressful. Especially, when you find out two months to trial the other side retained an attorney. I decided it would be best to seek some form of counsel. I was referred to Mr. Tsakataras through another attorney. I immediately called because I had been praying for guidance, and this attorney gave him a stellar recommendation. I did my own research while awaiting the consultation meeting. His reputation was incredible! He has EXTENSIVE experience in custody matters. He has state / federal contracts in the family court system. This man has earned the respect; and you only do that by working hard! So, everything in me said “THIS, is exactly WHO you need to talk to!” Fast forward to the Monday we were meeting, we ended up rescheduling because an emergency hearing was the following day he had to prepare for. I was timely notified by Steven (his paralegal) and informed of what was going on. How could I even be upset? That’s the type of person you WANT on your team. Somebody who is DEDICATED to your case and will FIGHT to see the best outcome. Finally, it’s the day of the consult, he called me in a timely fashion; and he let me know how the process works; 50 minutes, i had already sent all my documentation to him- so even though it was via phone; it was as if I was in the office. He told me the retainer fees, and asked me if I wanted to be prepared, OR, if I would be able to pay the fee. I opted for preparation as trial is set for next month and the fees as a result was going to be very high. During this consultation, he outlined in details which factors are the factors I should be focused on, how to highlight them, how to present them to court. He gave me valuable information that you really can’t put a price tag on. Once the 50 minutes was up, he did not rush to get off the phone. He made sure I was able to take very detailed notes, giving me dates, telling me how to get things admitted into court and before the judge. I feel very confident in my case, however, he has made my confidence level boost while fright of the attorney has diminished. I 110% recommend this attorney and I am so glad I had the opportunity to speak with him. It’s evident that he cares a lot more about the people he HELPS than he does about the money; I can only pray he continues to have great success in all paths of his life and continues to be blessed.

I have never felt so confident in court, I’m so glad I ran accross Mr. Tsakataras and hired him as my lawyer. He fought for me more during my custody situation than any other lawyer I’ve worked with. I can not thank him enough. What he did for me will forever be appreciated!

I was hurt on the job and was getting no where and needed help. I emailed The Freibott Firm and Fred called back immediately and I told him my story. We set up a meeting at the Lewes office and I met Dennis Mason (one of his lawyers)and he told me they had it. I have had 2 back surgeries and they still have my back and would recommend this Firm to anyone in need.

I was hurt at work and was getting no where and we decided to get a attorney. I was shocked as I emailed Fred and he called me in minutes and made a appointment with his associate Dennis Mason so after the meeting with him he told me they had it and they did. I can say I had a ton of questions and they answered all. I would recommend Fred Friebott and his firm to anyone

Attorney Roberts is an expert in Workers compensation. She came to my rescue when my back was against the wall. I put my complete trust in her, something I never do. She was honest, diligent, respectful, super intelligent, paid attention to details and my concerns. I doubt there is a better Workers Compensation attorney on this planet.

In my complex social security disability case, which involved international totalization law, I talked to many attorneys but by far David J Lyons Esq was the very best. There is no way I could have won my case without him. In fact, he won my case two (2) times as the first time the judge made a legal error so we had to go through it all again with a second hearing and he won it all again to get full SSDI benefits for me. Prior to each hearing, I could see that he over prepared and had accurately covered all angles of the case and knew all of the evidence very well. I highly recommend David J Lyons Esq as a social security disability attorney for anyone who has a genuine disability claim.

I was injured in a slip and fall accident. Mr. Lyons took care of me from the very first day we spoke. Not only did I get all my medical fees taken care of, I also got a settlement that helped get me back on my feet. He's a Great Lawyer who obviously cares about his clients.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Wilmington, Delaware?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
