This review is a pleasure to draft and will only highlight a fraction of the respect and admiration that Joe has demonstrated during our three year business engagement. I and a partner hired Joe after being highly recommended from another law DE law firm. Without this sounding like a simplified description of our interactions, he's a very easy and comforting attorney to interface with. He's always fully prepared and efficient in his approach when discussing any of the elements that are needed to prevail. Joe combines the ability to strategize the ultimate objective by piecing together the series of facts and legal facets that wind thru any complicated filing, trail preperation and courtroom success. Joe offers the opportunity to feel confident that each stage of litigation and negioation is being handled at the highest professional level. He's made a very complicated legal case flow smoothly while some former attorney's make relatively simple cases into convoluted messes. The greatest compliment in business is a repeat customer and I'm a lifetime supporter of Joe's legal work and equally important, the class he bring's to the legal field as a whole.

I retained Joseph over an eight-month period to handle the litigation on a reverse triangular stock valuation. I found Joseph to be very legally competent, attentive, and sensitive to my budget needs. It was a highly emotional and frustrating experience but Joseph navigated us through all of the legal issues and we obtained the best settlement that was legally possible. I think that Joseph was diplomatically candid about the legal merits of our case and was careful to let me know what our real chances were for success from the beginning so that I did not pursue any unwise strategies. He did not sugarcoat the issues but I always found him to be optimistic in pursuing the best outcome for our interest. I found him to be very careful to control the legal expenses that we would incur, which I very much appreciated. I also think that he was good at just listening to my occasional venting as I ran into repeated frustrations caused by the legal complications of our case. I would highly recommend him for corporate litigation matters.

We were the plaintiffs against a very deep-pocketed set of VC firms (these would be household names among the tech community), who we alleged misappropriated funds when a technology company we co-founded was sold. Joe was referred to us and upon mutual consideration agreed to take the case on contingency. The case took a couple of years to wind through the legal system given the behavior of the defendants. We eventually obtained a favorable (mediated) settlement. He earned his keep, never lost his composure, worked through challenging legal and business matters, and was not put off by technical issues (though these were few). I would work with Joe again if ever in that unfortunate situation. But I would never start a company with those VC firms again.

We have found working with Mr. Cicero to be one of the best experiences we have had with regard to legal matters (which is saying a lot). Joe has proven himself to be extremely thorough and knowledgeable. Throughout our case he's tenaciously defended our position with brilliant and pragmatic strategizing while remaining empathetic, gracious and kind. Highly recommended.

It is my privilege to recommend Mr. David Felice, an excellent lawyer, based in Delaware with the firm Bailey & Glasser LLP. I have know and worked with Mr. Felice on a professional basis for over 10 years after becoming acquainted with him while he was practicing at Cozen O’Conner. He was invaluable in a corporate litigation case that successfully tried a Section 220 (Books and Records) action before the Delaware Court of Chancery, resulting in a court order requiring comprehensive production of corporate documents. Subsequently he was instrumental successfully obtaining a verdict after a jury trail involving breach of contract, fraud, conversion, a misappropriation claims in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. Throughout the lengthy litigation process I found Mr. Felice’s superior research and excellent analytical skills gives him the ability to process large volumes of information quickly and formulate an effective strategy. This combined with his exceptional writing skills produced many well-researched and compelling briefs, motions and arguments throughout the case. Additionally, Mr. Felice is a gifted public speaker and represented me in court with skill and professionalism at all times. I hold Mr. Felice in the highest professional regard and would enthusiastically recommend him. I believe his work would, not only meet but exceed your expectations.

Attorney Roberts is an expert in Workers compensation. She came to my rescue when my back was against the wall. I put my complete trust in her, something I never do. She was honest, diligent, respectful, super intelligent, paid attention to details and my concerns. I doubt there is a better Workers Compensation attorney on this planet.

In my complex social security disability case, which involved international totalization law, I talked to many attorneys but by far David J Lyons Esq was the very best. There is no way I could have won my case without him. In fact, he won my case two (2) times as the first time the judge made a legal error so we had to go through it all again with a second hearing and he won it all again to get full SSDI benefits for me. Prior to each hearing, I could see that he over prepared and had accurately covered all angles of the case and knew all of the evidence very well. I highly recommend David J Lyons Esq as a social security disability attorney for anyone who has a genuine disability claim.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Wilmington, Delaware?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
