I hired Mr. Ferry in a collection matter about a year ago and although the outcome was not as I would have liked due to circumstances outside his control, I was impressed from day one with Mr. Ferry's approach and professionalism. He had a clear sense of the steps that needed to be taken in my case, identified potential pitfalls, outlined cost implications for continued litigation outside his area of expertise, and proved to be a strong sounding board when deciding whether to continue pursuing the case. He was instrumental in identifying another attorney outside his own firm with expertise in the area that I needed, continued to work with this attorney following, and made me feel perfectly comfortable conferring with him when things became confusing or I felt as though focus was being lost on my core objectives. I was an out-of-state client and have yet to meet Mr. Ferry in person. I can say that I have great trust in him and his judgement. I am grateful for all he has done with respect to my case and recommend him highly. Overall, an incredibly decent person and a very capable attorney.

Mr. Ferry represented me in a lawsuit to remove a Power of Attorney who had been taking money from my father behind his back. We were successful in the Court of Chancery to have the person removed and the money returned. Mr. Ferry is a great lawyer with a wonderful demeanor.

I was in need of a attorney to handle an estate issue in Delaware. After receiving recommendations from a top Delaware Lawyer and Judge, I was put in contact with Brian Ferry I called Mr Ferry's office and had a lengthy conversation with him concerning my legal issues. A day or so later, I received a lengthy analysis from many perspectives, some of which I hadn't contemplated. Mr Ferry was very upfront and conservative in his assessment on potential results. He did not make grand promises to sell me on his firm. What did "sell" me, was his full and undivided attention along with his grasp of the legal issues at hand. Mr Ferry proceeded in a very cost effective and efficient course, while gathering previously unknown facts to help push my legal issue forward. His concern for costs is a paramount concern. His professionalism is paired well with his skill. It became very clear to me that when I saw his work product ( briefs, complaint, letters etc) that I knew I was fortunate to have found a Lawyer, who not only took pride in his work but has a very analytical perspective to the legal issues at hand. Not only does he connect the dots in his legal analysis, he also thinks outside the box in his legal strategy. He has made me feel as though I was his only client and has always been accessible. Mr Ferry has always gotten back to me in a timely manner to address a question or concern of mine. I truly have felt my interests come first and Mr Ferry is a advocate and my voice. He is a Attorney and Litigator. Mr Ferry is not just someone who has passed the bar and is making a living practicing law but Mr Ferry's professional career is woven into the legal fabric of Delaware and he is highly respected among his peers. I, not only found the right attorney for my legal issues at hand but also for my future Delaware legal matters. Whether it's a simple legal matter or negotiation or even a legal course up the steps of the Supreme Court of Delaware, I highly recommend Brian Ferry. Kevin

In my complex social security disability case, which involved international totalization law, I talked to many attorneys but by far David J Lyons Esq was the very best. There is no way I could have won my case without him. In fact, he won my case two (2) times as the first time the judge made a legal error so we had to go through it all again with a second hearing and he won it all again to get full SSDI benefits for me. Prior to each hearing, I could see that he over prepared and had accurately covered all angles of the case and knew all of the evidence very well. I highly recommend David J Lyons Esq as a social security disability attorney for anyone who has a genuine disability claim.

Attorney Roberts is an expert in Workers compensation. She came to my rescue when my back was against the wall. I put my complete trust in her, something I never do. She was honest, diligent, respectful, super intelligent, paid attention to details and my concerns. I doubt there is a better Workers Compensation attorney on this planet.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Wilmington, Delaware?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
