I hired Dan Lyons 2x and he fought tooth and nail for me in both cases. The outcomes were excellent. The reason I only gave LyonsLaw 4 stars because unless you have $10K+ for a second DUI look elsewhere. Dan caters to the rich. His expertise in law should not be questioned. He's top tier. If you can afford him, get him.

Mr. Lyons is the best lawyer I have ever met or ever used. I have met 100’s or lawyers due to my field in Information Technology and used a few in my personal life. I can say without a doubt that Dan is a skilled attorney and a man who cares about his clients. I called other lawyers before Dan and they were ready to swipe my credit card before knowing anything about the case. Dan called me and insisted we speak in person, explained the facts, looked through the details, and set my mind at ease. A second DUI where I had confessed to smoking, given blood, and had every right to be pulled over. During the entire process Dan kept me informed, gave me the most likely outcome, and then got me off of ALL CHARGES! I didn’t even get a driving citation and didn’t have to go to court for a trial. He already spoke to the prosecutor, disqualified the case, and made my year! He is professional, smart, respected in the courtroom, and lays it all out in front of you. I could not have asked for a better, caring, and diligent attorney. When my lively hood was on the line I had to pick the right attorney and I spoke to nearly 10 before picking Mr. Lyons. If you have a case in Delaware go to Dan Lyons. There are not enough words in my lexicon to tell you how incredibly awesome and talented Dan Lyons is. THANK YOU DAN!!!!

Mr. Wilson was very helpful regarding my DUI charge. He was able to get the charges dropped after he convinced the prosecution that I was not under the influence at the time of my accident and that my accident was caused by a pre-existing condition.

I cannot express enough gratitude to Al Cave for the incredible work he did on my behalf during one of the most challenging periods of my life. From the moment I met him, he exuded professionalism, compassion, and a deep understanding of the law. He represented me in a Protection From Abuse (PFA) case against my ex-husband, defended me when he filed a retaliatory PFA against me, and guided me through an intense custody battle. Thanks to his tireless efforts and unmatched legal expertise, we won every case. Al not only provided me with exceptional legal representation but also became a source of strength and reassurance. He listened to my concerns, answered all my questions, and developed strategies that were not only effective but also aligned with my needs and goals. Be was always well-prepared, articulate in court, and fiercely advocated for me and my children. What truly sets Al apart is his empathy and dedication. He genuinely cared about the well-being of my family and worked relentlessly to ensure justice prevailed. He made me feel heard and empowered. Because of Al, my children and I are now in a better, safer place, and I can begin to rebuild my life with peace of mind. I highly recommend Al Cave to anyone in need of a compassionate, skilled, and determined attorney. He is truly one of the best in the field, and I am forever grateful for his unwavering support and hard work.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Wilmington, Delaware?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
