I work in a very complicated field with multiple layers of international connections. Security clearances are not always processed with the global economy in mind. I found Tullly Rinckey, did a consult, and retained the Firm. Dan Meyer is the national security partner in the D.C. Office, and he allocated the time needed to get me through the application process. It took about a year, but I am in, clearance granted. So don’t go it alone, go TR! Thanks Dan!

I work for a relatively small Defense contractor in the area of armament and munitions sales. We had a complex global transaction requiring International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR) support in getting approval from State and Commerce. Dan Meyer and Evan Dentes at Tully Rinckey stepped in to provide us with the clear-sighted and dead-on guidance we needed to navigate both systems. On the scene in Washington, D.C., TR can support the small to medium-sized contractor with their ITAR and EARs needs, and can do so cost effectively. Great experience working with their National Security team !

Dan Meyer saved my security clearance. I had a Guideline I, Psychological Condition statement of reasons. It is very unnerving to receive such a document from your security officer. I did a consult at Tully Rinckey, and Dan put me at rest. He wasn’t worried, at all. After he explained the law, we got going on his strategy to save my clearance. Dan shows a great sensitivity to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) when working with clients; and he takes that commitment into his work at the security agencies. We put together a great brief which included the evidence I collected at Dan’s request. I just got the email from Dan, “you win!” It made my day. Go TR ! Go Dan!

I reached out to Tully Rinckey and worked with Dan Meyer, national security partner in the Washington D.C. Office. Dan’s White House experience, time on the DNI’s staff, and years as a Federal senior official allowed him to guide me through the tier 5 investigative process. Thank you Dan for all of your help, and I would highly recommend Tully Rinckey for their very professional services.

I was served an investigation by my employer due to a previous office retaliating against me. Tully Rinckey and Mr. Meyer provided me expedient and superior services to address every time sensitive matter with the ammunition to give me the most success. I felt confident throughout the process that I was preparing the best way possible with the most expert advice and handling for my situation from Mr. Meyer. Additionally, I had to depart for military service while my case was still being handled, I would be out of contact for two months. Mr. Meyer made sure everything was in place for me, I cannot thank him enough for his assistance. Thank you, Tully Rinckey and Mr. Meyer for closing my successful case, I can move on to the next chapter of my life.

I appreciate S.L. England so much! He really helped me every step of the way! If there was anything , I mean anything I needed, he was there to help. If I didn’t understand something, he made it very clear for me to understand. He helped in every way possible. I was super nervous, paranoid, everything you can think of and all he said to me was “ I got you, don’t worry!” And surely enough I DID NOT have to worry at all! He always had a solution which was helpful on my end and he is just a very understanding person! Overall, I personally feel as though he is one of the best Criminal Defense Attorneys in the DMV. Hands down. I would recommend anyone to hire him!

Mr. Markowwicz has been hands down the BEST lawyer I could've ever had on my case. From the day he was hired he set high expectations and gave me his opinions based on the information I gave him straight forward. Any and all questions were answered, and he fought for me more than I honestly felt that I would've been able to fight for myself in court. Throughout the case, he made sure to keep me updated on everything and even gave me advice on the things I needed to do in order to help strengthen my argument when it came time to do so. To sum it up he was able to help me win FULL primary custody in a case where I truly believed I'd only get visitation rights. Words can't express my gratitude. Thank you, Mr. Markowics

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Washington, District of Columbia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
