One of the most honest and caring attorneys I have dealt with. I randomly choose Eric after so much disappointment from a previous attorney. He was able to somewhat turn my employment situation around. While the final outcome was not what I anticipated, my final settlement was able to at lease recover attorney fees. If you are in search of a knowledgeable attorney who not only cares about your legal issues, but takes time to ask and care about your personal life, I highly recommend Mr. Eric siegel.

I suspect many are like me and when you're looking for an attorney (not related to routine business/personal matters), it's about one of the worst times in your life. There is so much uncertainty, anxiety and you want the BEST attorney to represent you. Someone that is going aggressively and steadfastly look out for your interests at every juncture, provide sage guidance and prod you when you need it and almost needless to say, be absolutely competent in their field. Eric Siegel delivered all that in spades. He worked tirelessly to move the case along to a final resolution (settlement). His attention to detail, his follow through, his confidant drive to win is exemplary. My case involved a construction contract dispute that was just about to bankrupt me. Our family has worked with business attorneys in the past and while they were fine, I wanted someone of a different caliber. I spent an ungodly amount of time doing online research. I suspect many of us may find our attorneys this way when we're in dire straights. I hope my efforts will save you some time. My advice is close your browser, contact Mr. Siegel's office, you won't find anyone better. Lastly, I was almost not going to contact him, because AVVO states only 5% of his practice is dedicated to construction. However his reviews were so good I made the outreach and good thing that I did. That 5% means nothing - he is so knowledgeable about the construction industry, contract law, homeowner's right, etc. It's as if 100% of his practice is dedicated to this arena. Hiring Mr. Siegel was one of the best decisions I could have made in this case and I would absolutely recommend him to anyone that requires an attorney.

This was my first time ever having to hire a lawyer. I was being discriminated against for my pregnancy and my company would not provide proper accommodations. A good friend referred me to Eric, and I couldn't have been happier. Eric was straightforward and to the point about what he could do for me. He took the time to discuss all the ends and outs and worked tirelessly to make sure everything was precise and clear to the point where I can say he helped me win my case. I appreciate his service and dedication to his clients. He treats you like family and I would also recommend him to anyone who need his services. I personally want to say thank you Eric for all your help and hard work, dedication and detailed skills and experience you gave to see my case through.

Eric Siegel was a true professional in handling my wrongful termination case. At first, I was uncertain how it would work having Eric represent me when I lived in another state and never actually met him in person, but all that uncertainty disappeared quickly after our first interaction. Eric impressed me from the first moment with both his concern for my case and his honesty regarding likely outcomes. Eric made it very convenient for me to handle all my affairs via email, phone or zoom. He was so flexible with me that I never had to step foot into his office, but that did not diminish the level of exceptional service he provided to me. Eric worked tirelessly to make sure that the truth was told in my case and presented it perfectly. He stood by every one of my requests and guided me through the entire lengthy process. Although we faced challenges, Eric did not falter. Eric was ethical, honest and extremely knowledgeable and kept me informed every step of the way. He was easily accessible and was always the one to communicate with me personally (not having his staff call me for him) and promptly answered my emails/calls sometimes even on the weekends and holidays. He worked diligently and professionally always having my best interest. I really felt during this process that I was not just a client but a partner working towards a common goal. I found him to be supportive as he fought to get the best possible settlement without having to incur the costs of going to trial. He was effective in his negotiation techniques throughout the mediation resulting in a favorable outcome. Although I acquired his services through the National Whistleblower Center, I never once was treated as anything other than a valuable client by Eric. My recommendation to any and everyone is that you can take comfort in knowing that if you retain Eric Siegal for your legal needs, you have hired the very best!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Washington, District of Columbia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
