had an outstanding experience with the assistance of Matthew Altamura & Shannon Altamura. They are compassionate, knowledgeable and handle everyone with the utmost ease and professionalism. They were incredible with representing me during an extremely stressful time in my life. They are patient, detail oriented, and not afraid to go up against large corporations and insurance companies. When your family has just gone through something traumatic and you meet with two extremely confident people that are willing to fight for you, it puts your mind at ease. If you are looking for legal advice, I would look definitely go with Matthew Altamura or Shannon Altamura. They are a highly intelligent and make a tremendous team.

We've used Mr. Taylor Callicutt's services many times over the last several years for a variety of reasons and will continue to do so whenever we need an attorney in his fields of expertise. He is a pleasure to work with and has always represented us in an excellent manner. We even recommend him for dual closings because we have 100% confidence that he will ethically and professionally represent both parties fairly, impartially and to the best of his considerable ability. His manner is always genial, he is very responsive and prompt in his replies to voicemail and/or email. Taylor has always met or exceeded our expectations and whenever we are asked for a referral to an attorney, Taylor is the first and only name that crosses our lips.

Scott is a great lawyer. He understands that estate planning can be overwhelming so he does everything possible to make sure that you understand what needs to be done, by when and the outcome that will be achieved. Felt totally comfortable with him. His office is very inviting, too. Professional, yet comfortable.

Contacted Scott Eggleston to prepare documents necessary for estate planning for my wife and myself. These included will, health care power of attorney, durable power of attorney and living will. Mr. Eggleston conducted a thorough interview, explained the purpose and need for the various documents and what they accomplish. My wife and I never felt rushed or that our questions were foolish. The time from our meeting to being provided with our documents was extremely short. Charges for services were very reasonable. I was very pleased and would highly recommend Mr. Eggleston and his Firm.

Any near future child custody issues or whatever the case may be he's honest and helpful as it prepared me to what different types of cases may bring; Long process and long courtroom hours! Julie helped us understand our situation and helped us navigate through bankruptcy. She treated us respectfully and with professionalism. The hospital would not accept our payment arrangement and filed a lawsuit against us. I remember when I showed Julie the papers; she said "I'll take care of that!" and that was the end of it. Julie helped us through a very difficult time in our life. We did our best to work our way out of our financial problems, but everything fell apart anyway. Ms. Shellberg is an exceptionally skilled attorney with incredibly good people skills. We hired her to manage our immigration petition and she was not only wonderfully reassuring throughout the entire process and answered all of our many questions and concerns, but she was also impressively successful in achieving all of our goals. Ms. Shellberg was also hired by us for a family matter and she performed expertly throughout the lengthy process and was once again ultimately successful. She is knowledgable, resourceful and frequently thinks outside the box. She is a pleasure to work with and goes above and beyond to make her clients feel secure and well cared for. Ms. Shellberg is an incredibly skilled writer and prepares accurate and consise documents with great skill. Additionally, she conducts herself very professionally and appropriately in the courtroom environment. I can not possibly praise her skills as an attorney enough, and would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone requiring her services.

This woman saved my life by getting me through my divorce. She’s kind but edgy enough to know she’ll care and fight for you. She took time to listen to what I wanted and was concerned about most. And she included me on every step of the process so I wasn’t left wondering. Divorce is anxiety provoking but she was the first lawyer I talked to (and I spoke with several) who calmed me down with information, discussion of procedures, and her confidence. And then she backed it all up. I’m so thankful for her. If you’re looking for a fighter, she’s your girl!

Mrs. Embler was the best thing that happened to my children and I. I was scared and not only did she work diligently, she also cared for me, pushed me when I needed it, encouraged me and believed in our case and put her all into it. If you want someone that will fight for your best interest and be very empathetic to a sensitive case, she is your go to. She was supportive and only wanted to see the best outcome for me and my children. Could never recommend or thank her enough!

When my mom was hurt in a car accident, we were getting no where with the insurance companies. They were low balling and delaying all efforts to reach a settlement. It was frustrating and infuriating. That all change when Shannon and her team got involved. We gave her the paper work and she took care of the rest. After months with zero progress, she quickly got us a settlement that actually reflected what my mom deserved. She also really cared about our case and it showed. Five stars all the way around.

Do not waste your time or money with Mr Hayes. You are better off representing yourself. I flew from California to NC to do a custody case and at court he tells me “I’m not prepared for this case, we need to continue it.” I hadn’t seen my daughter in months and this was his answer. What a joke. Hire a real attorney who is going to take your case seriously or just represent yourself. I ended up loosing almost all visitation with my daughter. You will lose with Mr Hayes.

If you are looking for a knowledgeable and trustworthy attorney, Ben Morgan is your guy. Ben has helped me with a variety of legal matters. His Real Estate experience is superb. My first transaction was in the middle of Covid 19. I was buying a foreclosure and it was halted because of the courts stopping all foreclosures and evictions. I thought I lost the property. That was March of 2020. But Ben was both familiar and had the patience to keep it going. He kept me up to date. In July he contacted me and told me if I still wanted the property it was mine. We closed it in a week. I am currently enjoying the property as my primary residence. He has also helped me with other legal issues. Always professional and very competent. His knowledge of trusts is amazing. I highly recommend Ben Morgan and his office to anyone needing legal help.

Hired Ben Morgan after he said he could help us with a neighbor disturbance situation. He sent out a letter totally lacking in the main detail (a crowing rooster which he called "chickens" in the letter. They are certainly not the same when you are talking about a noise disturbance.) He received back a letter stating there was precedence against our "chicken" claim (despite the fact that we stressed to him the topic was the roosters). When asked about this he said "of course I knew that." He also forwarded the letter without any explanation and behaved as if he was being bothered when we called to get his recommendation on moving forward. Not sure why he took our money and ruined any chance of suing the neighbor because he left out the key detail. A crowing rooster - not clucking chickens. I recommend you do not hire this attorney. He has a serious lack of attention to details and is unwilling to fix his mistakes. He owes us an accurate letter to the neighbor at no charge.

I must admit Mr. Dotson is a very busy man, but he is the best attorney that I have ever done business with. My last divorce, not being my first rodeo, I had a fairly good idea of the fees to expect and knew better than to run up my own fees with a bunch of unnecessary calls and emails. I took all of my information in when I first met with Mr. Dotson, we discussed my case and he or someone from his office called me when they needed further information from me. My bill at the end was nearly $8000.00 which I thought very reasonable compared to my first attorney on this matter. I can't even bad mouth him as I picked an attorney that did not specialize in domestic matters. In the door I paid $2500, when I in effect "fired" him (the first attorney in this particular matter) there had been NO court documents filed so the only thing I received back were letters between attorneys and a copy of the fee agreement that I signed acknowledging that no initial moneys paid would be refunded. Mr. Dotson then took my case worked with me on payment and gave my ex a good old fashioned spanking plus sued him for the remainder of the attorney fees owed. I wonder if some people understand the process? I also wonder if they consider that when you are paying someone to look after your best interest perhaps you need to step back and let them handle it. NO, the process was not quick and NO he never called unless he needed something from me, but he did an excellent job for me. The bad reviews...I think are bogus, I went from my first attorney offering to settle at $2500.00 and 2 years at $200 per month and ended up with $90,000.00. I think that was a damn good job. Thank you Mr. Dotson

I went to this law firm because I needed advice. This law firm failed to provide me with one piece of advice that could have saved me wasted time. I have health issues that prevent me from doing a lot of things. I wasted an hour and a half waiting in lines and filling out paperwork that was useless. By the time I arrived home I was exhausted and totally distraught.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
