I can’t say enough about Jodee as an amazing attorney that would do her the justice she deserves. While suddenly shocked and confused by a sudden divorce at 45, I was beyond blessed when I made the best decision to hire Jodee to represent me in what isn’t a simple divorce at all and without a ton of money but my livelihood for the remainder of my life at stake. She paid attention to detail from the start and impressed me with her persistence and dedication throughout. My case is not yet completed but regardless of the outcome, I will never regret hiring Jodee to represent me. She has gone above and beyond without churning a bill or overcharging. She has been supportive and I don’t know how I would have gotten through just what I have without her. If you are looking for an amazing attorney with knowledge, strength, dedication, motivation, persistence and patience with your emotional dilemma, you can’t find anyone better than Jodee.

When my mother was diagnosed with cancer and scheduled for stem cell transplant, she had to face the reality that she may not survive. Among other things, her will needed to be updated, an advanced directive put into place, power of attorney transferred to me, and guardianship for her developmentally delayed sister changed. Bob got on board immediately and created all the documents my mother needed. He showed great patience with my anxious mother and brought her peace during a stressful time. He is a very skilled and conscientious lawyer and is extremely sensitive to his clients' unique needs and circumstances. I would recommend Bob to anyone who seeks sound and personable legal advice.

I can not recommend Natalie Wetenhall enough! She is not only knowledgeable and competent but she also has this wonderful ability to explain things in a way that non-lawyer's can understand. Her breadth of legal understanding is very impressive. She is responsive to questions and concerns and provides a level of care that you don't often see in the legal world. She cares about her clients and provides top notch legal service.

Susan Krant helped my small business negotiate a commercial lease that proved beneficial. I took great comfort in knowing this competent attorney was looking out for my well being and that of my business. She also helped mediate negotiations when a water claim occurred . In both instances I fared better as a result of her representation.

Eugene did not hesitate when asked to help form a local cycling club in the valley. Not only was his legal advise and guidance invaluable, he put his words into action by starting a non profit for the local cycling community. His professionalism, along with the ability to work with the various interests within our group, was a perfect fit for us. There are many lawyers who cycle that we could have called on; it was a unanimous decision to call on Eugene and he did an excellent job for the cyclists of the Rogue Valley.

My husband and I chose Eugene Anderson to represent us in litigation of a difficult and highly emotional matter. Mr. Anderson advised us regarding the procedure and what we would likely experience as well as his fees at our first meeting. Throughout the entire time Mr. Anderson represented us, we found him to be straightforward, honest, highly ethical, compassionate and kind. My husband especially appreciated Mr. Anderson's fairness in his billings. I appreciated Mr. Anderson's kindness and understanding towards me during this very painful time. Mr. Anderson is unusual in my experience of attorneys in that when he says he will have something done by a certain date, he has it done by that date. He does not procrastinate! My husband and I both liked and enjoyed Mr. Anderson as a person as well as respect him as an attorney.

I have a serious legal matter concerning a large amount of money with a General Contractor in the area who misappropriated my funds and stalled my job due to nonpayment to the subcontractors and suppliers. I live out of the area but thought it best to hire an attorney in the area where my building project is so I made an appointment with Chris Hearn via Dawn a receptionist at Chris’s office to meet with Chris a week later. About 6 days later I drove 7 hours to meet with Chris the next day. I was looking forward to receiving some professional help as almost 150K of my funds are at stake! I had written Chris 6 days earlier and also cc’d him on important communication with my contractor but with no response from Chris. A day before I was due to travel I called Dawn and mentioned Chris had not responded to my email days before and she asked me to send her the correspondence email so she could look it over and discuss it with him as he was extremely busy and he did not want to be disturbed. She mentioned he was so busy he probably had not read his emails. What kind of attorney does not read his emails concerning important legal matters I thought? So I sent her the email and she said she would call me back that afternoon and let me know if Chris had gotten my initial email and subsequent cc’d emails that were important to my case. Why she needed to discuss my legal matter with him instead of just asking if he was getting my emails was a little strange I thought. She never called me back. Oh well I thought, maybe she is just a little clueless but Chris is the professional lawyer and he his the one the matters here. Well the day before I was to meet I drove 7 hours in preparation to meet Chris in Ashland the following day. In the afternoon that day I get a text from Dawn asking if I had received Chris’s email. I had not. She mentioned in the text Chris was too busy to see me and he had to cancel our appointment. WTF!! I had spent days searching for an attorney, found one, drove down on a 7 hour journey 6 days later to meet the next day and they flippantly without so much as a sincere apology dismiss me as if I don't matter. How unprofessional!!! It is not easy finding a competent attorney in a smaller area that I was not “too busy” and seemed qualified and I was feeling desperate to get some help as my retirement was at stake here. They treated me like I was a third class citizen and flippantly dismissed me at a great inconvenience at a time when I really needed some help. Compassionless boobs in my opinion! How unprofessional!!!!! Avoid and find someone who gives a sh**!

Several years ago this attorney drafted the original CCNR's for our condo group. When we approached her to make a possible change she said she would look into it. Assuming she had some answers to how we could change our CCNR's she asked us to come in but when we came in she asked the same questions again and could not remember the CCNR's so we watched her read them. She promised to send us a paragraph that night to amend our document but she never provided it. We emailed back and forth if she had any information or the paragraph to which she repeatedly said not yet then we got a bill for about $600 based on her 2 hours of work which included our visit and emails. When we challenged the bill she said we were not guaranteed an outcome.

I first contacted Michael Balocca almost 10 years ago about an accident case I was injured in . Michael agreed to represent me although the insurance carrier involved had filed for bankruptcy. Although the odds of prevailing in such an accident case appeared to be long odds Michael prevailed . Since that time I have had Michael Balocca work on real estate transaction documents, Land Development Issues, etc. with the same degree of professionalism. I have not hesitated to recommend Michael Balocca to others I know who have also been happy with Michael's service. Michael Balocca is a straightforward individual who will tell you what you need to hear - not what you want to hear. I recommend Michael Balocca for your legal needs.

I'm sure Scott Bucy is a very good lawyer and has lots of experience but who he is inside is what counts and he is heartless and cruel and only cares about how much he can charge you. He exhibits zero empathy for anyone going through the loss of a loved one. He is completely devoid of any compassion and only see clients as dollar signs.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
