I interviewed several lawyers and all were great, however what set Shana apart from the rest is she understood my case and fears and showed she wanted to help me protect my children. She knew that my children were my priority and she never lost sight of that. Together we accomplished my goal at 110%. Her team she has behind her is responsive and very well orginized and never delayed a filing or delivery of documents to me and communicated the opposing sides responses to me immediatly. I filded just before covid lock down of 12/2019 so this took a bit longer than she had said it would--court being shut down, this was not something she could foresee, regardless we still worked on bulding our case and getting all documents shared--she used the time of shut down to orginize and stratigize my case. When I felt like it wasnt going well, she assured me of the process and that we were on target. Trust her and the process!! It might take a bit longer than you want--but when there are children and assets involved it takes a lawyer who is calm and expirenced--Thats Shana!!

Shana is a compassionate and a very professional attorney. She helped me navigate my divorce as well as a lawsuit later on. Shana is very objective, straight forward and makes the whole process very smooth. She made sure the process moved along fast, explained the process well to make sure I have a full understanding of my rights. She is not rushing to lawsuits, and has a very calming and soothing personality, which make the client very comfortable in a middle of chaos. I highly recommend her.

Shana Vitek ad. her team represented me in finalizing my divorce. Due to Covid, the Cook County courts appearances were all conducted via Zoom. Shana was diligent, thorough, and persistent in getting through the frustrating process of working with the court system via Zoom Calls. The presiding judge was unreasonable, rude, and quick to set unnecessary continuances. Thankfully, Shana and her team remained focused and resilient and were able to finalize my divorce. I would strongly recommend using Shana Vitek if you are considering a divorce.

David is EXTREMELY helpful in tough situations. He explains your situation and possible outcomes of your case thoroughly and will answer any question you have no matter how trivial. As a former prosecutor, he is very knowledgeable of what the States Attorney wants to/can do in a case and he will let you know what to expect. I would absolutely hire him again.

I've been a client of David's for approximately 10 years now. He's assisted me and my 2 son's with numerous case's, ranging with simple driving violations, to more complex ones that had been ongoing for 2-3 years that could have, or did result in the loss of driving privileges . With his guidance and knowledge of the law, the results were always far better than what may have been originally or erroneously charged. With David's prior experience as a state's attorney, he gained valuable experience in the day to day operations of Cook County's judicial system and gained the respect of the various judges. Key factors in his ability to successful navigate the system, and successfully defend our cases. Beyond his professionalism, knowledge and ability to successfully navigate the system, what was just as important to me, was his compassion he displayed to me and my son's in dealing with our personal problems over the years. I would highly recommend David to anyone.

I have used Keith over the past 20 years with nothing but consistently excellent results. When somebody wrongs you, Keith steps up to the plate and takes the tough cases other lawyers shy away from tackling. Whether its taking on a police department for racial profiling, or challenging an attorney who committed malpractice, Keith goes to battle and almost always wins. I would not hesitate to recommend Keith. His sensibility around what is worthwhile or not, makes him your most trusted advisor.

I am pleased to be able to write the first review for this firm. Our investment corporation was referred to Aronson & Walsh this year for help with bankruptcy issues involving debtor's chapter 7 & 13's. I spoke with Amy Aronson and addressed some issues we had with some bankruptcy chapter 13 plans and wanted her help to object to the plans in our favor. To date, we've sent over approximately 20 files and Amy delivered favorable results on all files placed with her firm. Amy is now our "go-to" person with any bankruptcy issues. I'm so happy we were referred to her. She's very kind, passionate about her work, knowledgeable and actually has a sense of humor. :) I HIGHLY recommend Aronson & Walsh to all creditors looking for true representation of their portfolio.

Would recommend to anyone, Dwayne (and his office) were amazing. Dwayne listened to what I wanted and fought like hell to get it. I always felt like he was on top of my case and was ready for whatever was thrown at him by opposing counsel (and even predicted opposing counsels moves so we were always one step ahead). If you want the best lawyer around, this is it.

Argumentative to your detriment. Does not work towards resolution, actually made my divorce more contentious than it needed to be. She ripped through the retainer and in the end, nothing was done. Didn’t care about my family at all. I found someone else who was able to conclude all issues and even repair good communication with my co-parent spouse. Ilene set us back years. She will only serve to annoy the other party and inflame an already difficult situation.

I was very fortunate to have Ilene as my attorney. Since going through my divorce a divorce is very difficult, it always felt good to know that Ilene was there for me. Her priority was to get the best resolution to my case in an efficient manner. And she did that very well in my case. I was very pleased and would give Ilene Goldstein my highest recommendation. I actually have, by recommending her personally to family or friends when they needed a referral. Unfortunately, I had to go back to court several times for post divorce work over an extended time as my children grew up and I knew I could always count on Ilene to give me excellent advice and get me the best outcome possible. She made me feel so comfortable I consider her a friend as well as my attorney.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
