During one of the most challenging times of my life, I needed a law firm to help me with my disability case & after doing some research we decided to go with the Law Offices of Russell J. Goldsmith. Since we have never had to do anything like this before, we needed a law firm that was knowledgeable & understanding. The Law Offices of Russell J. Goldsmith handled our case with the utmost professionalism & care, they helped us through every part of our case. They answered any questions we had, & we had a lot of them. They were straightforward about the possible outcomes at each phase & fought tirelessly for my case. The process can be overwhelming, emotionally exhausting/ draining with many complexities, we were very lucky to work with Russell J. Goldsmith & his staff, & with their help we were able to get a favorable outcome. It was a long journey, one that sometimes felt it would never end, but they stuck through all of it with us & we could not have done it without them. We highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a compassionate, professional, dedicated and thorough law firm with an amazing staff.

My husband and I are so grateful for attorney Russell J. Goldsmith! After applying for Social Security Disability on our own (and being denied), we turned to the Internet for help finding an attorney to file an appeal. We were impressed with his website and the reviews from other individuals and thought we’d give him a call. The staff spent weeks interviewing us via phone to try to understand my husband’s complicated case. Sometimes we’d be on the phone for an hour or two at a time explaining and clarifying. Finally we got the welcome news that Mr. Goldsmith had accepted my husband’s case and would represent us! His assistant Nicole then took over most of the contact with us, helping us to more accurately describe my husband’s unique challenges. Mr. Goldsmith then reviewed our appeal application and, without putting words in our mouths, asked probing questions that made us realize that what we had said — while true — didn’t SOUND like what we meant to someone who hadn’t personally experienced it. It opened our eyes as to why his application had initially been denied — meaning, we hadn’t done a very good job of putting words to paper. Mr. Goldsmith filed the appeal on our behalf and the waiting game began. Social Security came back with a demand for more information (which Mr. Goldsmith reviewed before submitting) and referred my husband to a Social Security doctor for an exam. Then we waited again. Mr. Goldsmith had warned us that 95% of electronic appeals were normally denied and we should expect to appear before an appeals board. But thanks to Mr. Goldsmith’s expert guidance, his understanding of how the appeals process works, and the extraordinary amount of time he, Nicole and the rest of his staff spent on our case, my husband’s was one of the 5% of cases approved on electronic appeal. We are so very, very grateful for the professionalism of Mr. Goldsmith and his staff, and for the caring way they treated us throughout the entire process. We highly recommend the law offices of attorney Russell J. Goldsmith!

Hired him for immigration, found him myself, not here at avvo. Does not know that medical i639 not valid anymore if adjudication is done. Does not answer questions, manipulates the topic. Fast on taking money, than you cant reach him for days, hiding a lot. Overall bad experience, he using your bad situation to get cash, creates more problems, than drops you and tells good luck. Avoid him as much as possible. Avvo deleted my previous comment, suspicious, he has only top reviews and his facebook page reviews are blocked. Kind of scammer not a lawyer.

It was a pleasure to have Randall as my attorney. He is very knowledgeable, attentive and professional. He went far and beyond to help me with my case and cleared all the questions and confusions I had regarding my case. Because of his thorough understanding and attentiveness to detail our case proceeded without any hiccups from start to finish in a very short period of time. I would highly recommend Randall to anyone that needs timely, effective, thorough and result-oriented representation. I look forward to working with him again should the need arise.

My first lawyer screwed us up =(we are denied,re appeal then almost denied again due to his wrong advice and moves) I looked for another one and checked for the reviews and found Atty Randall Drew. After the first meeting,he really did a very good job in understanding where I am coming from. All the small details, complicated issues, and culture difference, he managed to explain it in a very detailed/legal way and that really works. I was approved after a week. I am writing this review for people to know he can solve your problem.

This is the first time I have EVER felt so strongly about an experience that I felt compelled to leave a review. In over 25 years working in the criminal justice field, I have worked with so many attorneys/firms; some of them better than others. I am deeply saddened to know that attorneys/firms like this are out there. Please, please do your homework.

We tried to unmerge our house lots in 2019. The selectmen said it was merged by the previous owners but we had proof it wasn't. We hired attorney Panciocco to help us. I wanted to overturn the 2019 bos decision but Pat said instead of pursuing that we had merged one lot by conduct so she saidwe would do a new application to just unmerge 2 lots. We had the selectmen meeting and they said since we didn't appeal the first hearing they would stand by the fact we didn't appeal it. Pat said our only option was Superior court . We lost. She then said Supreme Court would have to find in our favor because it was totally different from the first application. We went to Supreme Court and their decision was that the non decision by the selectmen was actually a decision and should have been appealed to the zoning board. Now it's to late so we lost two house lots and paid her over $20 thousand dollars. Pat still takes no responsibility for her decision. In total her negligence cost us over a quarter million dollars and years worth of emotional suffering.

Pat Panciocco is a terrific attorney who advocates strongly for her clients. She was instrumental in the successful subdivision of property in a town that was openly hostile to our perfectly legal efforts. Without her counsel and dogged efforts to secure our legal rights we would not have been successful.

My husband and I hired Pat Panciocco to settle a land disagreement between us and a builder. She is great just sitting in her office and sending out letters to the town and etc. But she is horrible fighting for the homeowner's rights. After we lost $40K we ended our relationship with her. Perhaps sheis good fighting for a developer since she was one but not for the average homeowner. To us this was a great deal of money and we only fought because we were assured over and over we were right. So, please average homeowner stay away from this lawyer. Don't make the same mistake as we did.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
