I have had the opportunity to work with many lawyers. I have never met another as conscientious, empathetic, and knowledgeable. She has a quality that few human beings possess let alone attorneys. Anybody who has ever worked with her says the same. She makes you feel like family but what is more she treats your case llike you are family

Mr. Daly and this team were excellent. Each step wax explained clearly and there is a pre-written fee for each portion. There are not surprise fees. Questions are asked and answered efficiently, You are encouraged to make changes as you go through the process.

At the advise of or attorney we contacted Czepiga Daly Pope & Perri for consultation about protecting our investments and home as we age. It is our intent to "age in place" and the insights provided by Attorney Daly were invaluable toward our decision making. Our plans are a work in progress at this point but we have every intention to stay connected to this firm as they are a superb resource.

I paid Atty Levin 6 months ago for a mutually agreed price for services. Since that time communication has been sparse, services were not rendered and requests for refund have been ignored.

I contacted Atty. Levin in April of 2023 regarding a matter. I chose her having friends, and relatives that know her as well as growing up with her family members. I received a text back a month later after speaking to her saying lets do this. I received texts on June 5, June 19, and July 14 saying she would contact me to meet. She was a no call no show on every scheduled meet. I was told after the last scheduled meet and blow she didn't deserve my response which was if I was blown off again it would be the last time and I would seek representation elsewhere. Atty Levin told me via text that day she would return my paperwork so I could seek representation elsewhere. It has been 22 days so far and I am still waiting for the paperwork. Text, calls, etc go unanswered. Hopefully others will have a better experience.

Jill was a very nice person and a pleasure to meet with when you were able to. She was very poor about getting back to you or returning calls, it could be weeks even months before hearing from her . I was Chad for things she said I wasn't going to be. She was a forgetful attorney and I did most of my own case work. In court she is a non aggressive attorney not helpful to your case she settles easy don't fight for you. Just not a tough art for these cases. I felt defeated way before the end. And I am still waiting for a follow up on a second part of 1 case called twice & emailed still no reply. I believe I've always treated her friendly, accommodating, polite. She is nice but I wouldn't go back sorry.

I hired Jon Leary as my real estate lawyer for the purchase of my home in CT in 2021. He came at the recommendation of my realtor, and I regret following their advice. He and his office were beyond terrible. He misquoted his attorney fees, he/his assistant wrote up the closing costs wrong despite multiple attempts from me to clarify (so I needed to shell out extra money right at the last minute without warning), it was very difficult to get in touch with him and his office before closing via email, text, or phone, and immediately after closing he pretty much ghosted me, leaving me with several unresolved issues regarding the home purchase costing me several thousand more. As soon as he had my money he disappeared. I cannot stress enough to stay away if you are considering using his office for the purchase of a home, I wish I had seen the warning signs and backed out. To be fair, as part of closing I did ask he refund me the difference of his misquoted fee, which he did provide during signing at closing. However, the something like $50 difference was nothing compared to the hassle, headaches, and other financial burden incurred by using his services. Do yourself a favor and ask a friend you trust for a recommendation.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
