Kerry is awesome, plain and simple. He responds to phone calls and text messages promptly and even outside of normal business hours, he is very understanding and does not judge you or make you feel like crap and has been very understanding in a situation where anyone else would have gotten fed up and just stopped dealing with me. Kerry is very knowledgeable, articulate and appears to be highly respected in the courtroom. Although I do not know the outcome of my cases yet, I have the utmost confidence in Attorney Robair's ability to achieve nothing less then the best results and would not think twice about recommending him to anyone.

I am a US Marine stationed in California, I am originally from Connecticut where I had to fly back and go through the divorce process. Attorney Hayes was amazing with communicating with me across the country with what's going on with my case and giving me great legal advise. She is very personable and makes you feel very comfortable working with her and without a doubt one of the most trusted not only lawyers but people around. She's worth every dollar invested and is very reasonable with working out payment. When I thought that I did not have a prayer, Attorney Hayes acted in a very professional manner in court to ensure justice in my divorce and got the fairest result possible. I am thankful for her and since I hear it all the time for my service to the country I just want to say, "Thank you for your service" Attorney Hayes.

I was referred to Patrick Cooney by a friend for a consult on a matter involving a family member in assisted living. Patrick was sympathetic yet professional in asking for all of the necessary information he needed to evaluate my case. One thing I appreciated most about our conversation was his honesty in telling me that the case was a bit outside his scope. However, he was able to refer the matter to an associate law office who dove deeper into the elements of my case. Although the response from the associate office was not what I was hoping for, they shared their professional opinion and recommendation for me to move forward. Patrick then was considerate enough to take additional time to discuss a new strategy with me and answer several additional questions. It took me several unsuccessful attempts over a few months to achieve what I achieved in two conversations with Patrick. I would definitely recommend Furey, Donovan, Cooney and Dyer for your legal needs.

Had a great experience with attorney Cooney. He took the time to return my calls on two separate occasions to give me legal advice and point me in the right direction, when I had not even hired him. I appreciate his help, and would recommend him to anyone looking for a well experience and qualified attorney.

Everyone at Jazlowiecki & Jazlowiecki were truly amazing. Jon Newman and his paralegal Marsha truly handled my case exponentially. They stayed connected through out the time of the case, handling everything, and settled the case in a timely manner. I know if I ever need a lawyer again they will be the ones I'm going to call. Thank you for doing such an amazing job.

Overall rating is merely average, with no lasting impressive litigation or art of deal making skills. I originally sought Attorney Storm out as he was geographically separated from my social circle (and that of my spouse) and reviews available online indicated he was “aggressive” and had dealt favorable endings for male clients with children. Unfortunately, it seemed he had a cynical view of his clients and make no mistake, his legal methodology is to settle cases (instead of pursuing a trial result) with a desire to land in a “zone of reasonableness” - which will likely not be in the client’s best interest. Only when opposing counsel took aggressive actions and motions did I see some desire and potential skill to litigate. Nonetheless, this was short lived. He also has some uncanny obsession with telling you to change your “way of thinking” on certain matters including client proposals or requests. He is keen on using a third party for parenting plan consensus instead of going to the court family relations branch or negotiating with opposing counsel himself. While this may (or may not) accelerate things, it comes at a steep price and adds another variable to the separation process. Prior to the final disposition, I also must note that I did clearly ask to be sent a final copy (understanding it would uncertified) of the agreement and stipulation documents and when all was said and done, I got nothing beyond “You are divorced” in an email (with no attachments or follow up). Pros- he is largely responsive (returns calls and e-mails quick enough but doesn’t always hit every point). He has a very nice office and his paralegal is very polite, professional and responsive. He seems familiar with Hartford Family court personnel and procedures. Cons- encourages clients to be “flexible” - but around his own schedule first and foremost of course. His rate at $400/hr is no bargain and he doesn’t have much sympathy for the financial state of his clients. Only when the case was all but finalized, he made a final concession on a pay now discount of sorts. His estimate on an initial retainer will likely only take you 6 months in with no disposition guarantee- and by his own admission, a simple divorce takes closer to a year.

I am so impressed on how hard Attorney Storm worked on my behalf. He did not overlook any part of my personal and finance wellbeing during my divorce. He fought for me even in areas that I wasn’t prepared to deal with. He also kept me informed with everything that was happening along the way. I chose him because I was told he was a bulldog that would fight for me. He way and yet he took time to listen to what I wanted and expected from my divorce. Thank you. Ed Behmke

My parents were living at home and required care for daily activities. The need to manage assets, screen long-term care facilities and understand elder law and how it applies to them was paramount. We reached out to Attorney Tully for support in understanding elder care law and hired him at our first meeting. The depth of expertise in elder care law and his ability to simplify it to make sense to us was obvious and continued throughout. Attorney Tully and his staff prepared applications (Veteran's Administration and Title 19) and answered our many questions as we worked through the process. This included managing my parents assets to comply with applicable elder care law. There were numerous face-to-face meetings and conference calls. I should mention that our contract with Attorney included a lump sum payment which, while expensive, was worthwhile. My parents are in a long term care facility. Though terms of the contract have been met Attorney Tully and staff are still available to answer questions. Attorney Tully was often delayed in returning calls and responding to requests for for information. The best way to reach him was by requesting a meeting. His support staff was exceptional in responding to questions and requests for information.

We hired Dan for our elder care issues. My mother-in-law has dementia and we wanted to keep her at home as long as possible. Dan has been able to do that with all the help he has provided. He has guided us through the veterans and state processes to get us the help we really needed to keep her at home. Dan listened to what we needed and he was able to give us answers and alternatives to make sure we understood all the options available to us. Together we made a plan that worked beautifully to help us keep my mother-in-law at home. We don't have many worries about the future thanks to Dan and all the work his office did for us.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?

  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
