After successfully using Kevin Nelson to navigate mental health court in the past, I employed him again to restore my firearm rights and vacate 2 felonies. For a set fee he was able to take care of both matters without me ever stepping inside a court room. I would definitely recommend him and will use him again if I need a lawyer in the future!

Mr. Nelson was quick to jump on writing up a contract for me. He listened to my concerns, answered my questions, provided guidance and insight on things I missed, and was pleasant to talk to. I'm definitely going to give him a call the next time I need a contract.

Hired Kevin based on researching reviews and boy, did he deliver. So I'm adding another "outstanding" rating to the list. When he took the case I had reason to believe he saw it as winnable even though he pointed out some obstacles to overcome. He is very professional in every way, detail oriented and organized. Long story short, got a favorable dismissal. Would strongly recommend.

Wow!!! Don't make any other call. Speaking with Wendy was the best thing I ever did. She , took the time, on the phone, to listen and refer me to where I needed to go and whom I needed to talk to. She truly was empathetic and understanding not just take $ and then say she could not help us. Going thru problems with family is hard enough then to pay for no help makes it worse, all you want is the right thing and Wendy is that one. Thankyou Thankyou Sooo much. Cari

I had some questions about the land covenants on a home I am purchasing in Lewis County. I spoke with Wendy about my concerns, and within a single evening, Wendy was able to provide me the details I was looking for. Wendy was responsive and communicative. I had also called another law office in the area with the same questions, and was told by the other law office that they wouldn't be able to find an answer for me. I'm relieved and impressed that Wendy was able to provide these answers before my grace period expired. I will definitely be calling Harris again in the event I need legal guidance.

Jennifer has helped my family on more than one occasion. She advised me during my divorce. She helped me modify the parenting plan when I relocated. She held my ex accountable to pay his share of our daughter's medical bills. Just recently, she represented me to negotiate a child support modification. Her advice and representation has always been excellent. She understands and respects my priorities and values. Her fees are fair. I am so grateful for Jennifer's advocacy when I've needed it.

Jennifer helped me to obtain a legal separation. She was responsive and concerned to my specific needs, gave great advice, always responded quickly and managed to get his lawyer moving. She explains everything in down to earth terms and is laid back and makes you feel comfortable. She took me through a terrifying ordeal and helped me to come out with my head held high. She gave emotional as well as legal support and I will go to her for any legal matters and HIGHLY Recommend her to any and all....oh and she is very fair and reasonable on her fees! The ex's attorney fees were triple what mine were!

I have 8 children and was facing a divorce - demanded by my spouse of over 30 years - that I did not want. My spouse had been gone for several years but wanted me to carry her financially so she could continue her permanent vacation. My priority - having complete control of the children - was understood by Jennifer and she laid out my options and likely responses by the court. Jennifer never 'blue-skied' me, but was there each step of the process and was consistently, ALWAYS right on the money with advice on how best to wind our way through the options available as well as negotiating agreements. In the end, despite the arcane demands of my now ex-spouse, Jennifer kept me calm and focused on what was important and led the way to a divorce I am very, very happy with. Jennifer is professional, knowledgeable and the best!

Contacted Manual and consulted with him on creating an LLC. Very knowledgeable of the subject and was very capable of explaining the pro's and con's. Felt that he exceeded my expectations. Would feel comfortable in working Manual in any legal capacity. I would feel very agreeable with anyone that I know that would have a reason to contact him. He represents a positive image when in court.

Sam represented my juvenile son recently. During the pre-trial meeting he was very thorough in spelling out what was going on and answering all our questions. If we could have kept Sam on to represent our son going forward we would have jumped at the chance but based on his status in being a court appointed attorney for our son, he was unable to. I think he sensed that we as parents were in over our heads and talked with us after the trial. Not only did he give us recommendations, he followed up with one of them to help get us the right fit for our case. I want to thank him for everything and especially the advice he was able to give us.

Ms. Rowe helped me when I was involved in a frivolous lawsuit. I appreciated how she took the time to listen very carefully to not only the facts but my input as well. I found Carmen to be knowledgeable, compassionate, clear, and precise. While I was a novice in this dispute, Ms. Rowe was clearly not. Her advice was right on target and her response time was reasonable. I would definitely recommend her to a friend or colleague.

Ms Rowe helped me with a very tricky legal/ ethical situation wherein a non-profit group manipulated their by-laws in order to slander and sanction me and my professional reputation. Ms Rowe was so helpful in explaining and navigating the by-laws and standing rules of the organization... presenting them clearly to the non-profit Board and their attorney. To that end, the group reversed their charges against me once it was clearly pointed out the charges were fabricated with no merit and were obviously personally/ politically motivated. I appreciate all Ms Rowe's attention to detail and quick responses to my case.

Carmen came highly recommended by a lawyer who does similiar practice, but recognized her as an industry expert with regards to dealing with Owner/HOA disputes. I was impressed with how quickly she got up to speed on the situation and the ability to sort through the electronic paper trail so quickly and thouroughly. Her persistance and boldness helped to get my situation resolved with the association in a timely matter. I would highly recommend Carmen, as she is truly a subject matter expert in her field and a pleasure to work with. She values your opinion just as much as you will value hers, and keeps you in the loop each step of the way. Couldn't ask for more!

If you want to lose your children go here. Everything the attorney said wouldn't happen, happened. They will share your account numbers and social security numbers with the apposing party. Don't recommend this office at all go somewhere else. Would give 0 stars but 1 is the lowest available.

I would unfortunately not recommend him to ANYONE. His lack of communication is a huge issue and he lacks the drive to actually fight for your freedom. For over 3 weeks my S/O sat in jail with out a single peep from Mr. Clark. We attempted to contact him many many times during that 3 weeks and never until 330pm the DAY before court, did he jLFINALLY show up to the jail to meet with my B/F. But that was right after calling his ex wife telling her and his 5kids he was going away for a lrewllybong time. Keep in mind that it's a driving on suspended from over a year ago. He now has his license and has for quite some time. Then he finally goes to see him and says yeah your going away for a while your going to be in here for quite some time and my b/f tried to ask questions but Jacob wouldn't answer questions nothing said he was busy nothing he could do and and leaves. So this whole last 3 weeks not a single call back, reply to email nothing now at 330 the day before court that is at 830 am this is what we got. You can only imagine the anxiety and the hair pulling stress we were really under now. We have no time to do anything at thisbpoint. If he don't want to deal with his case then I wish he would just say so that way we can atleast try and find an attorney that will pretend to care and fight for him. I shouldn't be spending my time trying to figure for my B/Fs freedom when he has an attorney. His attorney should be itye one telling the judge about everything my b/f has done and accomplished telling the judge when he says hey your going to jail because you didn't do this Jacob should have said your mistaken my client has already done this and this and this and here is thebproof instead of saying nothing and now here I am trying to be heard so the judge knows no the things you asked to be done by the time of court was done by court but his attorney didn't do his jobvandbmake sure the courts had that proof to. So now that it's been brought to light and my b/f has sat in jail for over a month with no bail for no reason other than his attorney not doing his job and updating the courts with the proof my bf did what he was supposed to. Now here we are again waiting another almost 2 weeks for jacob to get him on the docket for sentencing and as of yesterday at 4pm he STILL had not got him on the docket for court on Wednesday. And ONCE AGAIN ZERO COMMUNICATION WT ALL!!!!; I have filed a bar complaint which I hated to do but honestly I don't know what velse to do. Truthfully that solves nothing. I can't force Jacob to start caring about his clients and look at his very poor conduct as an attorney. With the way he practices and the absolute zero communication until the very last minute you would be better off without an attorney then having him. The stress and anxiety and mental anguish you go though trying to get Jacob to atleast just communicate let alone actually defend you instead of just sitting there doing nothing is enough to make anyone loose their mind and be angry just as we are. I hope something can be done to where Jacob realizes the way he handles things is completely not ok. Maybe he needs to find a profession he wants to do and strives for. Being a criminal defense attorney clearly isnt it unless someone just don't care about being free.

I agree with the prior review for the most part. I don't recommend him now, but maybe in the future when he listens a little more, communicates alot better and yes, lightens his work load.. everything is last minute which only creates more anxiety for the client. Lack of response of phone calls and emails contributes to the anxiety as well. I do believe that he does care but other things are getting in the way and it didn't come out to be a good experience for us. I do hope that he grows and learns and is open-minded enough to listen to the reviews becomes better equipped and Focused, which will only lead to more satisfied clients, referrals and I would imagine the chance of a more positive outcome for the client which is ultimately the goal.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
