I reached out to Mr. Merwin for some legal advice regarding family planning. It was very easy to discuss my plans with him. He showed that he was attentive and caring during all of our conversations. He did a great job in reviewing the information, and conveying information to me. Through this process, Mr. Merwin was professional, knowledgeable and detail oriented. I will look to him for future legal consultations and services.

Mr. Merwin was wonderful to work with and got business taken care of. He took over a case that a previous attorney never finished and he got the job done as if it was a case that he was involved with from the start. He managed to get things settled out of court. Communication was always done in a timely manner and he was transparent throughout the whole process.

I've known Mr. Bogush for about a decade. He's a family and community man highly committed to his professional career. I can share first hand that I've had needs arise where a quality attorney is invaluable. Frankly, legal counsel is like a parachute, if you dont have it when you need it, you may never need it again! Each time he's provided services, they've been rendered with supreme professionalism, demonstrated mastery and proficiency in his field, and balanced with high levels of compassion. This is not to be confused with softness, Mike is no pushover and has a broad knowledge base, exceptional experience, and he brings his "A" game each time he's needed. He's aggressive, confident, and committed to excellence. He's a straight shooter who believes in providing honest and direct counsel with all of his clients. Fundamentally he's grounded ethically and morally and again, his experience and strong reputation accurately depict the service you'll recieve. I cannot recommend him highly enough. If you have a need, you owe it to yourself to contact Mike Bogush for his assistance.

Google this attorney before you even think of hiring him. He lies and cheats. He altered evidence in a dui case and got caught red handed. Also had a dui over triple the legal limit, it says he even peed his pants on I80, bad attorney who should be permanently disbarred in Pa. He is still lying and cheating to win.

Attorney French's office scheduled me in right away. I was in a time crunch with my father's will/estate. He, and his staff, accommodated me in every way possible. They go above and beyond for their clientele. Highly recommend!!

My number one piece of advice for anyone seeking legal counsel in clarion county: RUN (don’t walk) to Attorney French’s law firm. Attorney French is one of a kind. He gives REAL advice, not fluff in hopes that you’ll hire him. He offers free consults as well. He WILL work hard for you until your problems are diminished, not just take your money and waste time. He is worth every cent.

Attorney French has done a superb job in my divorce/child custody/PFA proceedings. He fights for his clients as if his own child is on the line. He has a big presence in the courtroom. He is expensive but worth it when he wins every proceeding for you almost effortlessly.

What shouldve been a cut and dry case turned into my wife and I having to find out that Cassie Munsee, our lawyer at the time, was not trying to fight a custody battle for us but was trying to settle. When we found out, it was too late. Now it looks like we condoned it and we're stuck with shared custody because theres no judge that will believe us and no attorney that can fight what has been done. We've reported her to the bar association. Theres no point hiring an attorney like her when shes likely friends with the opposing attorney anyway.

She didn't know the situation before going in to represent, even though I emailed in advance to talk it through with her, I didn't get a response. Therefore when faced with opposition she folded and ended with not favorable results. Do not recommend.

So far they have done a great job representing me as a victim in my case. I will update this after my case has come to the end but this far the DA and advocates have worked hard for me and tried to accommodate my autism in communication needs.

I have contacted the Clarion DA office 5 times (will be six today) … twice with registered letters - four times by phone and they will not get back to me regarding the release of my grandfathers rifle from evidence. It was confiscated from my brothers home over one year ago and was not used in the crime. The case has been closed for 10 months. They’ve told me there has to be a “court case” to release it. In this timeframe I have not heard back from them despite repeated calls to “Tiara” and another much more snippy clerical worker who was unhappy that I send “registered letters”. It is my belief that Mr Welsh had a personal issue with me regarding my brothers trial. Trying again today but this is BS.

I'd like an explanation of why civil cases are county wide ONLY on some things, yet criminal cases are state wide. Last I checked this is federal fraud and abuse of power. Please see the Law of Contraction to prove my point. Answer the question for those checking Google review, please. As taxpayers, EVERYONE deserves to know this answer. How much is the county making on the county wide ONLY system?? Now how much off the state system. Include ALL fundings and grants state and federal. Why is it ok for Clarion County and it's constituents to commit crimes to gain funds??? We're all waiting...

If you're offered Mr. Hackenberg as an attorney, run as fast as you can. He's not even worth "free service". He is absolutely incompetent, unprepared, and has no understanding of law whatsoever. He will take what should be a hands down, snowballs chance in h*** case to lose, and find a way to burn you to the ground. He is the sole cause of me losing a PFA and possibly my children and has left me in the most terrified state for my safety and that of my kids. DO NOT USE THIS ATTORNEY! Please, if you care at all about your case stay away from Mr. Hackenberg! I'm finding a real attorney that can hopefully clean up this disaster he caused. I wish so badly I would have never trusted him to help my kids and I. Stay away from him. A lawyer this terrible and incapable should not be practicing law.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
