Carrie is an excellent attorney and very easy to deal with. She is very knowledgeable, easily accessible, and kept me constantly informed about my case. Carrie was very patient but also tough when needed to be. I found her staff to be very professional and great to deal with. Carrie help guided me through a very difficult time in my life while being empathetic to my individual situation. I would highly recommend the Buscarini Law Firm.

I had the pleasure of engaging Attorney Buscarini to represent me through my divorce proceedings. She did an excellent job of representing my interests throughout the process. She is very knowledgeable and experienced in this area. As one could imagine, a divorce can be a very emotional experience, and Carrie worked with me in a kind, compassionate yet focused manner. Her counsel to me was invaluable, and several times she had to redirect me and my frustration to more positive thinking and outcomes. I engaged Attorney Buscarini based upon my own research, as well as word of mouth. I was delighted with her representation of me to bring this matter to closure. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the great work of Kasie, Carrie's paralegal. She did a great job of keeping me abreast of the process, documentation, and upcoming meetings given that during the proceedings, I lived out of state. Overall, the Carrie/Kasie team did a wonderful job, and I am grateful for their representation of me during my divorce proceedings!!

Ms. Lenahan is very professional and punctual. I called her on a legal issue I was having. She called me back within an hour and gave me great advice on how to move forward. She could of said I am your best bet to go forward. But she didn't, She did what was in my best interest. Again she could of had me hire her, but, because In my particular situation she didn't think it was necessary yet, She didn't think it was smart move. What I'm trying to say is she is super honest. If you want an honest, punctual lawyer your in the right place. And she told me she practices in a few areas and if I need her for other things she is there. Thanks Ms. Lenahan.

Bill defended me for my 2nd DUI. While I don't encourage driving under the influence. If you DO, and you get caught, I highly recommend Bill Thompson. My first DUI (5 years prior to this one) - I used a Public Defender. I got a $2,500 fine / 3 days in jail / 40 hrs community service / probation / license suspension. Basically the worst punishment I could've gotten. With Bill, all I got was a minimum fine of $400 and the probation/license suspension (which are unavoidable). I couldn't believe it - considering not only was this my SECOND DUI, but I also had a possession charge mixed in this time. I went into this assuming everything would be worse, and it actually turned out much better. Well worth the money, I ended up getting a top-tier defense for pennies on the dollar just through the savings on the fine he got me vs. a PD. Highly Recommend - Thank Bill!

Hired this attorney and nothing was worked on for almost 5 months went to fire him but he asked me to give him a chance to do the work,so I gave him a second chance and regret it. A simple divorce that he said he could do with the retainer if $1,500 turned into 2 k and still no divorce. He doesn’t answer calls or return calls he will blame you for why he can’t do his job. He can’t remember anything told to him and you will have to repeat your case to him every time. Check out other reviews before ever hiring this man. Still don’t have my divorce and he wanted another $1000 to finish it. Stop with another attorney who reviewed all the work he did and said the attorney made a mess of my divorce and could see why the judge denied my decree. The attorney is a joke and doesn’t know how to do his job. Don’t waste your money

Mr. O’Malley was the worst, most unprofessional attorney I have ever met. In the span of 8 months he didn’t read one document he requested, didn’t follow up on anything he said he was going to do, did not return phone calls, emails, or messages in the portal, and didn’t do one thing to earn the $4500 he received for services. He was rude, crude, vulgar(calling to opposing attorney gross nicknames), demeaning toward the client, lazy (asking the client to find documents in his files that he requested). He yelled at an old woman. He asked the same questions every time as if it was his first time meeting the client. Then when the answers to those questions finally got through to his fat head, he said he couldn’t do anything without more money. I would recommend anyone to Stay away unless they want to lose. He also could not provide a notary public, told the client he needed to have documents notarized and when 3 different notaries refused to notarize because all the parties had to be present to sign he said it was fine. He is totally horrible!

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
