For almost three years Lorena represented me in a custody battle that included a FAPA order. There is a lot of back and forth that happens throughout the years, and Lorena kept matters lawful and to the point. Her knowledge around domestic abuse, the law and keeping children first always kept me at ease. She is kind and well spoken. There is no doubt Lorena knows her stuff!! When it finally came down to going in front of the court, Lorena did not disappoint. Everything she had said throughout the years. What we worked towards. Came together masterfully when she spoke. Also, her legal assistant, Bre is lovely to work with. She is also helpful, knowledgeable and to the point. No one is wasting time or money at Reynolds Law Firm. It was an honor to have them on my side through an emotional-stressful time. I’ll forever be grateful.

My Family Law case was more complex than average. I needed to look for new Counsel in the middle of my case. Lorena was a life saver when should took mine. She was compassionate, uber organized, and highly effective in the courtroom. She well outperformed my Ex's confident attorney. The settlement was more than I could have hoped; allowing me to move to a more secure place to raise my kiddos. We have a wonderful life to look forward to. Reynold Law saved my soul.

Lorena has helped me during two court appearances which were high conflict custody cases. She is an absolute bulldog of a lawyer who is going to direct you in order to build a solid case. She is very knowledgeable, and has her team bring up relevant evidence in order to support you. I have been very happy to have her represent me and will continue to seek her for legal advice, and representation.

I don't know what I would have done without Mr. Dessert to represent me. Unpretentious, and quality Legal Representation! Even this Business name has the charm of a Classic Attorney At Law Office! Layton worked hard to assert our Civil Rights here. I wish this Law Firm the best, in it's growing experiences.

I was introduced to Layton Dessert from the Oregon Bar’s referral program. I live in Eugene and my property management company (Trio Property Management) decided they could get a lot more for the house I was living in if they could drive me out, and began an intense program of harassment (threatening to evict me over a broken smoke detector I alerted them to on video 28 days earlier, stuff like that). Anyway, having Layton there to give advise and support has been absolutely invaluable to both my peace of mind and in helping me to make decisions. He is a really good person who cares about the people he is helping. If you are facing similar circumstances in Oregon, don’t feel like you have to do this all yourself or run away, because you have rights. Consultations from referrals from the Oregon Bar are super reasonable no matter what area of law you need help with (as of this writing $35 for an hour). And housing insecurity is just plain awful. With so many people experiencing it right now, the governor has declared a state of emergency. Housing rental prices are out of control, and landlords are breaking the law right and left to get around legal increases because they think you won’t do anything about it. But you don’t have to give up and you don’t have to do this alone. There are good people out there, and Layton Dessert is one of them.

Mr. Dezzani is an outstanding attorney. He took over our very complex trust settlement case from his colleague when it reached the point where it needed to be litigated. At every step of the way he was patient, thoughtful, responsive, extremely professional and very, very skilled. Our case was complex and difficult and lengthy and at every turn we trusted him completely. Because of his experience, the outcome was better than we had imagined and we give all the credit to Mr. Dezzani.

As a retired professional engineer, I have never needed a lawyer before, I couldn’t even play one on TV, let alone go toe-to-toe with an attorney seemingly committed to an adversarial process in a largely trivial fence dispute. Insult on injury, said attorney enjoined me against contacting plaintiff directly, ruling that out as a resolution tool. Before obtaining representation, I sought a quick tutorial, came to the Reynolds Law Firm, drawn by the 2nd paragraph of its Vision Statement which matches my own philosophy 100%. I scheduled an initial consultation & met with Rance Shaw on June 1, 2021. Best $$ I have ever spent. I won’t repeat the lavish praise “anonymous” bestowed on Rance on Feb 6, 2021, just concur in every detail. A key insight emerged during the time Rance generously allowed us which rendered obsolete a couple of strategies I had developed on my own, pointing to a better way. Long story short, I had already sent plaintiff’s lawyer one letter previously, now followed with a second letter. 60 days later, nothing. Complete radio silence! If that’s the end of the matter, Rance: sorry good buddy, but if I ever do need representation, I know exactly where to go. Peace & thanks! I'm still chuckling about Ruth Bader Ginsbun...

Rance Shaw expertly navigated our real estate fraud case, securing a judgment in our favor with an award for every dollar we sought through arbitration. Prior to hiring Rance, we had consulted with multiple attorneys, but knew from our initial consultation that he was the right person for our case, and we were not disappointed. Rance immediately grasped our situation, recommended a course of action and deftly managed our unusual case and a particularly difficult and uncooperative respondent. Throughout, Rance demonstrated a wide knowledge of legal process and points of law, yet never hesitated to say “I don’t know, let me get back with you about that” concerning the more arcane points of our unique case. He prepared us fully for the proceedings of the arbitration, and the hearing itself was professional and amicable. Rance is not only competent, intelligent and skillful, he is a genuinely kind human being, and despite the difficulty of our circumstance, we very much enjoyed working with him. We’re ever grateful for the blend of expertise, competence and personal warmth that Rance brought to our situation. It was truly reassuring to know we were in such capable hands through this trying process.

I had a small claims suit that the defendant turned into an official lawsuit, Heart of the Valley was very helpful in getting me the money, we/he also go 2x what I was asking for so that he could get the 50% contingency. I was fine with that. I just recently asked him if he would help me with another issue that just happened. I was asked to pay a $95 consultation fee. I have a personal injury issue and am not able to pay that. Although Heart of the Valley is good/great I am sad to say that the poorer people aren't going to have the benefit of his representation.

A big firm in San Francisco recommended Dan Stotter when I'd exhausted all other avenues. I'm a journalist and author by trade, and had a FOIA request that was blatantly ignored by a government agency. I needed help, but lawyers were reluctant to go the distance given that I had limited funds. They also weren't sure that my request rose to the level of the public's need-to-know. Well, Stotter believed in it, and carefully yet forcefully got the government to fulfill its legal obligations. He is forthright, professional, and clear. I highly recommend Daniel Stotter, and while I hope I never have reason to use his services again, I hope others will.

He communicates well and is very organized. Mr. Stotter has never lost a case as our attorney and I highly recommend him.

During the past 23 years, I have consulted and retained Justin Wirth on many matters. He recently represented me on two litigated matters, with excellent ultimate results on both cases, leading to resolution of both matters favorable to our position. Justin is extremely intelligent, intellectually astute, and very quick on the uptake, leading him to analyze the legal merits of both my recent cases quickly, incisively, and with good judgment. He has always cared for me as a client, and is always honest with me, consistently telling me the positive and negative aspects of my case, and our prospects for success. He routinely made himself available at night and on weekends, to ensure timely service to me; and I understand he is equally responsive to his other clients, returning their calls immediately. He is extremely ethical, tenacious, hardworking, well organized, and has an excellent reputation in the legal community. He is the first person I think of when I need assistance on any legal matter. I have recommended him to a number of other people, and will continue to do so.

I was impressed with Mr. Ensor from the very first time I spoke with him. During our initial consultation, I gave him a general overview of my situation, and after a brief chat, he went above and beyond and asked if he could call me back in half an hour so that he could look at the (very long) official petition and read all the details. When he called back, he had a clear understanding of the ins and outs of a very complicated situation, and we hired him the next day. For two months, he worked with us, and was great about helping us understand his process and prepare for the hearing. This was much appreciated, as it was our first time in court and we didn’t know what to expect. When it was time for our hearing, he did an excellent job representing us, and we were so grateful for his knowledge and preparation. He is a smart guy, as well as a straight-shooter - no BS or just saying what he thinks the client wants to hear. We won our case and my family is now safer thanks to his hard work. If we need an attorney in the future, we are definitely hiring Steve again.

When you hire an attorney it is because you are in need of help. Steve Ensor represented himself as a divorce attorney who could represent me in my divorce proceedings. He charged me a total of $12,000 and never followed through on a single thing he said he would do. Ultimately he agreed to everything my ex-spouse wanted, I think because he had failed to submit any of the necessary paperwork, paperwork he billed me to complete but then "forgot" to submit to the court. It would be funny that a person could be so inept time and time again, if it hadn't cost me every penny I ever had. I have nothing and he is $12,000 richer, and he did not do a single thing to represent me. I would only recommend him to represent my worst enemy!!

First let me say that in my business I have had to deal with lawyers for over 30 years. Please be very very careful before engaging with this attorney. He will have you sign a fee agreement that is complicated and overly detailed as to how billing is done. That should have been my clue to walk away but had already started the process with him and he is a knowledgeable lawyer in elder law. Unfortunately, He did research ( which is in the fee agreement ) at his discretion but in our case was a long list of rabbit hole research and “what if’s” that he admitted would most likely not happen and I never asked him to check on. It is Then charged us!! I asked him to write a simple short friendly letter to medicaid to feel out a situation that had most likely been resolved already but I wanted to be sure. He charged for listening to messages, and getting them from his assistant who got what I said wrong several times! He also charges for emails. He also charged me for a synopsis of our first meeting that cost more than the first initial meeting! I did not ask for that synopsis I took notes of my own. In the end I never got what I needed and was afraid to make notes on the draft since the first time I asked for two tiny changes his “research “ cost ME almost $800! In my experience he does not stay on track and do just the task requested. I say stay away unless you have money to burn. Thousands billed to me for what should have been a few hundred dollars in my opinion and experience:

He did excellent work all around, getting some false accusations cleared and getting a very fair settlement done in the end while up against a very prominent attorney in Lincoln county. I've referred two people to him since then, and both have had excellent things to say about him and his staff. Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
