I started working with Christopher Lyons 6 years ago on my claim for Social Security Disability benefits. My case was complex and difficult. But Chris stayed on top of every detail, gathered evidence from many sources, and managed my appeal brilliantly so that eventually my case for full benefits was won. Having won that case, he went on to win a VA disability appeal as well, building on the strength of the first case and even more evidence collection. It was an excellent strategy. Again, he stuck with my case for another 2 years to reverse its status of this as well. I feel extremely grateful that I had Chris on my side. He is compassionate, incredibly smart, and patient. He's also tenacious and knows which details are relevant in a difficult case. And, his briefs were brilliant - well thought-out and beautifully written, without even a comma out of place. I can't imagine a better lawyer!

Mr. Chris Lyon's helped my family immensely with our social security disability case. My husband is prior military, disabled and we had been previously denied benefits. The system is so complex and confusing and Mr. Lyon's was attentive to our case, knowledgeable, professional and organized. The brief/letters he composed for our case were very well written and evidenced. He was responsive to questions and understanding. He told us what to expect as things proceeded. Our case went successfully, taking a very big burden off of our family. He was instrumental in this success and I would recommend him to others.

When I embarked on finding an attorney online, I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of options. Assessing the expertise of these prospects was a daunting challenge. Ultimately, I based my decision largely on proximity to the courthouse. This factor, I realize, is not the recommended criterion for choosing an attorney, but I was extremely lucky in choosing Brent Thompson. I cannot say enough good about Brent. He is an amazing attorney who I quickly realized cares deeply about his clients. He is no-nonsense and requires his clients to strictly adhere to his advice. Once I retained Brent and put myself in his hands, I knew I had made the right choice. Brent took care of the rest. His attention to detail is something to behold. I could not have made a better choice, and I wholeheartedly recommend Brent Thompson.

When I faced an assault DV4 charge, with a prosecutor demanding a guilty plea, the situation seemed dire. The evidence was heavily against me. Despite these challenges, Brent Thompson guided me with patience and expertise, achieving a resolution through a stipulated order of continuance (SOC). His deep knowledge of the legal system and his commitment to personal appearances at every hearing during the pandemic were incredibly reassuring. Brent also recommended an alcohol assessment and treatment program, which has been invaluable. It’s truly helped me become the better person I am today. Watching myself grow and learn from this experience has been profoundly impactful. Brent, thanks for being like my father, a rock-solid guide when I needed it most. I’m deeply grateful for how you handled my case when I felt cornered and afraid. If you are in serious trouble, I highly recommend Brent. He offers more than just legal protection; he provides a pathway to betterment. Absolutely worth it.

She has the audacity to give legal opinion on a public post. She knows nothing but assumes a lot. Her legal opinions given on Facebook are nonsense. She clearly feels entitled to harass and slander whoever she chooses. I’d pick someone else, she is not a nice person in any way.

My daughter hired Ms. Truitt to represent her in a divorce, custody battle and to oppose a relocation, Deb was highly recommended by a few people. My daughter was in a same sex marriage and she was not the biological mother, her spouse wanted to take the twins and relocate across the country. Deb, her team and her paralegal Rosemary were very professional, caring, compassionate, they give it 500% and they make u feel like your family. We went to trail and Deb was AMAZING!! Long story short she won the case for us!! I highly recommend her!! And if the need arises I will surely with no doubt hire her.

I hired Deb Truitt to represent me for my divorce and custody battle. No one ever gets married expecting to get divorced or wanting to hire lawyers, but if it gets to that point I recommend hiring Deb first! It was a tough process to go through, but I 100% always felt that Deb had my best interests in mind. She’s easy to talk to and her paralegal, Rosie, was amazing. For being such a difficult life changing event I was more than satisfied with how she handled my case. Deb was on fire in the court room and is truly the best in my opinion and from my experience. I hope I never have another need for a lawyer again in my lifetime, but if for whatever reason I do, then without a shadow of a doubt I’m running straight to Deb Truitt!

We had a very difficult custody case, that had been ongoing for 3 years. Molly McPherson was recommended to us by previous clients along with an fellow attorney. Hiring this firm was the best decision we made! The entire team is easy to reach, returns calls and questions promptly and overall is a successfully run office. Molly is just the person we needed. She presented the facts, proved the law, she’s passionate, was aggressive when needed yet always maintained respect for the court. We have thanked her over and over but I don’t think she truly understands the warmth in our hearts she has given us, thank you Molly!! We truly appreciate everything you have done!! Anyone that needs outstanding legal assistance, contact this firm!

Throughout the lengthy, and often complicated, family/gaurdianship matter, Molly and her staff kept me very informed and even when I personally was unresponsive (due to work and mail forwarding because I moved, etc) they were immediately responsive when I finally came to my decisions. The custody and well being of your children is the most important thing in the world and Molly helped ease alot of anxiety and questions during the whole time. I would have been very much at a loss without her knowledge and professionalism. Molly is a loving parent herself and understands the importance of love in the home. I very very much thank her and her staff for all their patience with me, for all their work on the case, their time and help.

I spent 7.5 years in prison and 3 more on community custody after going trial on a charge I DID NOT commit. He did not object to the jury foreman being the lead detectives sister-in-law, the sleeping juror, etc. He did not summons nor depose a key witness. There was no physical evidence. He encouraged me to take continuances for a year allowing the prosecution to groom their witnesses. I was convicted solely on verbal ER 404(b) testimony of prior loosely related false bad acts (acts that brought NO additional charges?). At the age of 43 I had NO criminal record or arrest record. This man argued jury instructions without a single mention of the exonerating evidence!!!

  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
