Our family cannot begin to express how grateful we are to have found Mrs. Smith. As our lives were shattering around us, she picked up the pieces and guided us to success. She defended us, stood up for us, and emotionally carried us many times throughout our case. Louise is trustworthy, and we knew we were safe with her. We knew that every step of the way, she had our best interest at heart and that she would make sure everything was perfect. She is a trailblazer of her field and is exceptionally knowledgeable. We were able to go along our daily lives in peace, knowing that day and night, Mrs. Louise was in the care of our case, fighting for us. She is highly knowledgeable of the law, has exceptional perseverance, is always available, and has great compassion for her clients. There is not one other attorney I would have wanted by our side. I must preface this with- This case could have caused irreparable damage to myself and family. Sue French not only came up with a solution but the best thing that both sides in the Lawsuit were extremely happy with. Extreme Satisfaction would truly be an understatement! This case was handled with the utmost professionalism, kindness and Honesty. She was always available to speak with or just a very short time callback if working with someone else. I truly can’t think of a thing she did wrong. In conclusion- I HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you need someone on your side that will do anything, everything, go above and beyond for you- Sue French is who you would want to choose. She is not only a phenomenal Lawyer but, has an amazing personable personality.

I am more than happy to write a positive, engaging 5 star review for immigration lawyer Olga and the Law firm Gambini. Olga is an incredibly talented and knowledgeable immigration lawyer who truly cares about her clients. She recently helped my grandmother obtain her citizenship and the whole process went smoothly thanks to her expertise and dedication. Olga made sure that my grandmother was comfortable and informed throughout the entire process, and always kept us updated on the progress of the case. One thing that really stood out to us was Olga's attentiveness. She was always available to answer any questions we had and never made us feel like we were a burden. It was clear that she genuinely cared about my grandmother's case and was willing to do whatever it took to ensure a positive outcome. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better experience working with Olga and Gambini Law firm. If you are in need of an immigration lawyer, we highly recommend Olga. Her expertise, attention to detail, and caring nature make her an exceptional lawyer and a pleasure to work with. Thank you, Olga and Gambini Law firm, for your outstanding work!

Tom Ford refused to review the discovery for my case. I'm not sure how an attorney can defend you without reviewing the evidence. He did not inform me of court dates and I almost missed one. On another occasion he called me to inform me of the court date 30 minutes before it started when I live an hour away. On one occasion he called me screaming cuss words at me over and over and wouldn't even let me talk and then hung up on me. He was extremely unprofessional and just wanted to try to pressure me to accept a horrible plea deal that included prison time - WITHOUT even reviewing the evidence. Finally I fired him and when I asked for a copy of my file to give to a new attorney he said he didn't have one - that it was all in his head. The new attorney was able to actually review the evidence and negotiate probation for me. If I had stayed with Tom Ford I would be in prison right now.

In the face of severe opposition, My son facing was 40 years with 3 strikes/major offenses and walked away serving 5 years, which is unprecedented in his case. Mr. Ford was the worst thing that could have happened to my case. My life is tarnished for bogus charges stuck to my plea deal. Where I should have been guilty of only one charge. It was a take the plea or else situation which it was impossible for me to win at trial. The parole board even released me years ahead of my scheduled release due to a more diligent & professional attorney that presented my case and the parole board learned the truth and did what they felt was right. Not only did he take my family’s money, he was poor at communicating. I do not know how he handles lesser charges but if your charges are serious.. PLEASE SEARCH ELSEWHERE!!

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
