A truck hit me and ended up totaling my suv while I was 7 months pregnant. Luckily we were ok but Spiros knew how badly this whole situation was for me physically and mentally. They took awesome care of me and fought for what was right in this situation. I applaud the hard work and them actually caring how much this all meant to me. I would recommend Spiros to anyone because of how much they care about every case.

I hired a lawyer because my employer didn’t pay me when I missed work after I got hurt there. I called & reported it soon after on same day. Then sedwig treated me so so badley I couldn’t continue on my own.they handled rep for me and settled the case on my behalf. I was treated much better from everyone at Spiros from secretaries to lawyers and not like I was dishonest because I was not. And they were very professional even though it was a small case

I had a dispute with my insurance company regarding coverage. Matthew Duco helped me get a settlement that will allow me to repair my car. Throughout the process, Matt clearly communicated what to expect, gave me a timeline, and kept to his timeline.

I hired Mr. Duco after I was in a very severe car accident and easily could have lost my life. Thanks to his hard work and dedication to my case, I now have all my medical bills paid that were near a $100,000, and money to help recover my lingering injuries. I highly recommend him.

I attempted to obtain this law office to handle an eviction case on June 6th - the original individual who was assisting me couldn’t not follow up due to family emergencies - the secretary and the billing specialist are rude; they like to scream on the phone, hang up during calls, gives you no room to talk and then they ignore the calls going into the office - I requested the call is escalated to a manager and the billing specialist then identifies herself as a manager. The excuse they kept giving is that the original person that was working my case was out of office and then proceeded to tell her personal business of why - when I asked them for their last names they said “we don’t give out our last names”. It’s June 20th and nothing has been filed - according to the secretary they do not follow up and do not call their clients to provide updates.

I worked with Ms. Huber from NC on an estate for a deceased family member in the Danville area. It was a super difficult estate including lost monies, stolen funds, and a horrible hoarding situation. Ms. Huber was wonderful to work with, communicated wonderfully, took over for parts of the estate that were difficult for me, and even tried to help keep costs down by having the beneficiaries work with her receptionists rather than charging her personal rates for each call, and there were a LOT of beneficiaries and calls, it saved the estate thousands. Ms, Huber is very conscious of her client’s finances, is detail oriented, upfront and honest, and good at what she does. I would use her again in a heart beat.

I was referred by a friend to Mr. Beardsley. After a phone call and an in-person meeting, I did not end up hiring him to take my case. To be frank, I felt that his knowledge of bankruptcy law was lacking. In my case, I was looking for a fighter who was willing to go the distance with my complex case. I didn't think Mr. Beardsley was that attorney, so I did not end up hiring him. Seemed like a nice and courteous person, but in my particualr case, he was the wrong attorney for the job.

Leon will exaggerate, twist and downright lie in his guardian ad litem reports. If you have the opportunity to choose, stay away from this dude. He’s lazy, he does the bare minimum, he has no clue what is “in the best interest of the child” as he suggests “equal shared parenting” is not an option for an child under his personal bias and preference. Leon spent his time “interviewing” family members and friends by chatting about stories about their family members, partying and old drunken memories, with minimal talk about the child, or the child’s needs and wishes. If you’re a father hoping to be just that, a father, this guy will be sure you don’t get that opportunity as he believes what’s best for a child is 14% visitation time turning you into an acquaintance to your child! Sadly, a father himself, stealing children away from loving dads in the name of money!

I went through Leon for my divorce and noticed he avoids you and does not get back to you in a timely manner. It has been three years and he still hasn't called or emailed me back to close an active divorce case. I was told the paperwork and invoice was "on his desk" when I called the receptionist monthly and now she doesn't even work there anymore. I had called them today just to see if they even have my information in their system anymore and the sweetest receptionist lady answered and apologized over and over. I don't know if I need to hire another lawyer just to get my case cancelled or what I should do at this point...

Ms Hussmann-Rogers represented my spouse in a divorce case. He controlled all of our money, so I could not get an attorney. She claimed she was willing to negotiate a property settlement and told the judge we did not need a mediator. But she was totally inflexible, sticking to his unreasonable demands and pulling tricks like not sending me copies of documents in a timely fashion, yet telling the judge she had mailed them on time (which was disproved by the postmarks when they finally showed up). She is not to be trusted.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
