Mr. Herbert S. Zischkau III is a top-notch, knowledgeable, highly intelligent attorney with a very caring, compassionate and personalized touch, which is why I highly recommend him. There is no way that I will ever be able to thank or repay Mr. Zischkau for all of his kind and much needed legal advice and assistance over the last several years as my family attorney. He has always provided me with the legal expertise that I have needed in a very understanding and personal way. Mr. Zischkau is a very kindhearted legal professional, who connects with his clients, who connects with me on a very personal level. Though now retired, I used to work with numerous, various attorneys on a weekly basis for about two decades, who either worked for the county or the state, or who were in private practice. My point being, I am well familiar with attorneys. Of the hundreds of attorneys that I have worked with in that two decade time span, Mr. Zischkau is one of the top three attorneys that I have had the pleasure to work with and who I hold in the highest regard. Take my advice! If you need an attorney who cares, who understands, who you want to work with you on a personal level and who knows how to get the job done, Mr. Zischkau is the attorney that you need to see. Thank-you, Mr. Zischkau, for your much needed legal advice and assistance over the last several years! I will never be able to thank you or repay you for all that you have done for me. I consider you more than just my family attorney, but also as reliable, loyal, caring personal friend. There are few caring and compassionate individuals, such fine gentlemen, such keen legal professionals as you. You are most definitely top-notch in every regard.

Generous with his time, gave me a break on the fees. Nice guy, supportive. Talks A LOT, tells stories, but is interesting to listen to. Stories are like metaphors that have something to do with what I am going through and has made me get a change of perspective.

Do not use this lawyer. We contracted his services in February of 2022. He rarely returned calls or emails. When the time came to Zoom call with the magistrate he was totally unprepared such that the magistrate became so annoyed, he shut down the session. We paid Mr. Karle over $6000 for absolutely nothing. He did not disclose to us that he had a neurological disease that impaired his ability to represent.

The 1st thing I remember when meeting Philip was his Genuine interest in helping me with my father's estate. He is an extraordinary listener and Extremely knowledgeable In his field of expertise. He does not waste Your time And gets right to the point. Moreover his staff are very professional and responds to call and text in short order. You can tell a lot about a person by the people they have working with them. He takes a lot of time explaining the legal matter to the client

Mr. Philip does not return phone calls or emails, always have an excuse that he never received them. Presented himself as a knowledgeable contract dispute attorney, which he is not, suffers from lack of knowledge in business transactions and almost cost us to lose a lawsuit that he supposedly was representing us. Found out that he had previous complains with the Florida bar, he is refusing to give us back the whole file and also receipts for all the funds that he collected in the pass. Will never recommend him and his services to anyone due to the fact that they are extremely poor and unprofessional and that the complainant has been already filed against him and he was reprimanded by the Florida bar.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
