My parents consulted with Attorney Epstein when they moved to Florida about estate planning. Attorney Epstein came out to their home, which was very convenient for my parents, reviewed what documents they had, discussed their wishes, and advised them on what they needed. What was so refreshing was that she took her time with them and explained everything in simple layman’s terms so they could understand. She made my parents feel extremely comfortable with their decisions. I felt she was very knowledgeable, thorough, and compassionate. When she returned on a subsequent date with the final documents (wills, powers of attorney, living wills, and declarations of health care surrogate), she reviewed them with my parents and made sure they understood what they were signing. My parents were extremely pleased and found Attorney Epstein’s services very reasonably priced, especially considering the time and attention she paid to them. At a subsequent date, when my mother became ill, Attorney Epstein did Medicaid planning for her to protect her assets; and when both my parents passed away, because of the estate planning that Attorney Epstein had done, it was a seamless transition for my sisters and I to take possession of what was left to us.

I found her prices to be fair rather inexpensive. At first I was concerned about using all her people when I had my own, but when she explained why and the benefits of using unbiased party and how it's more protection for the parties involved it made perfect sense. Protected all parties involved. Also saved me possibly loosing my house by making choices from the heart. I like that she comes to me at my conscience and when I'm done I'm clear on all issues I have questions with.

Tom handled the probate on a two-state will involving real property in Florida. I was the listing Realtor on the Florida property and had the privilege of meeting with this attorney along with one of the co-personal representatives of the estate. He was very open and honest in sharing his knowledge of the probate process and handled that portion of the sale of the property in a very expedient manner. Tom was quick to respond to phone calls and emails and very patiently kept us informed of the process as it progressed through the courts. He was highly recommended to me by an excellent title company and I will have no qualms in recommending him to my buyers and sellers in the future. He is top notch in my book!

Joe Cianfrone is a very knowledgable attorney more importantly he can explain the finer point of the law using language that non-lawyers can readily understand. He is always available within a reasonable time frame, is easy to work with, and maintains his calm despite tense situations. His answers are framed with a common sense reality that is often lacking among lawyers. His replies are well thought out and his alternatives often list the up and down side of a particular choice.

There are not enough stars to express how grateful I am to the Stinnette Team! From start to finish, they were there to help me through the whole process. No matter how many questions I had, they always took my calls and got back to me promptly. Andrew and his team are patient, professional and really do care about their clients! I never want to go through another automobile accident again, but if it happened to a loved one, friend, or a family member, I would only recommend them to Andrew Stinnette P.A.

I posted a moderately complex real estate question and 4 lawyers responded: one advised getting a lawyer, another inexplicably picked a fight and two others gave answers. Of the two who answered, only Bob Tankel agreed to help. ...and whoa, did he help. With rare assertiveness, Bob contacted opposing counsel, extracted all necessary documents and gave me a concise but thorough assessment. All of this happened within a few days of first contacting him. I've dealt with many attorneys, and I've yet to work with one this efficient or effective. Bob is the quintessential TV star attorney. The next time I require a real estate attorney, Bob is the only attorney I'll call.

I was referred to the Law Offices of Hendry and Parker back in November of 2020 after being battered by Pinellas County Sheriff Lt. Forcade who lied on his arrest report. All charges have been dropped by the States Attorney's office after Attorney Kris Parker's diligent work obtaining key testimony from witnesses and video evidence of the incident. I am grateful for the work he put into my case.

I had a wonderful experience with this firm. They were responsive and thorough; their prices are fair; they helped me to dial down the drama and the upset about my case and helped me calmly go through the process... and went on to WIN. I walked into the courtroom scared and nervous, and I walked out crying tears of happiness and gratitude. I would highly recommend Hendry & Parker to anyone who needs a good legal referral.

I’m a retired lawyer. I went to Mr. Michaels on a referral for an estate plan. After he put in minimal work to produce some documents, on a call to discuss he told me his efforts were to be a courtesy and non-negotiable, and if I wanted to leave certain conditional gifts his documents didn’t accommodate that and I should create additional accounts (I.e., he was not going to put more work in to find solutions). When I expressed displeasure, he said he’d give me half my money back (for documents that were useless to me) and I should come to his office to pick up my prior originals. We had no contract, so at most he should have been entitled to a reasonable hourly rate for the little work he actually did. Instead he wanted half of what we agreed for the whole job. Caveat emptor. Get it in writing if you’re going to deal with Mr. Michaels.

Would rate a zero if possible. Company refused to call me back in reference to my questions on the letter I received. I had to leave multiple voicemails for someone Call me back just to tell me I needed to email. I now have emails I have gone unanswered since May 10 and again on June 21. I am positive. It is the correct email because I received correspondence with this email earlier this year. They will refuse to return your call for so long that your “attorney fees” Will double. Absolutely unprofessional… These people do not care and just want your money. My attorney fees for a $120 late HOA due (that I was not aware of) turned into over $1400+ . I’ve lived here for an entire year and never had to pay HOA dues because they were being taken out of my mortgage. All of a sudden, this year, something changed and I was not notified… How am I supposed to pay HOA dues I am not made aware of!? This law group seems like a bunch of crooks. ***response to business reply*** I received nothing in the mail prior to your notice. Neither did many homeowners for our HOA That has nothing to do with your inability to return an email since May 10th… and dragging your feet on responses so that more fees are added.

I am not a client, the client is an HOA that made it difficult for me to pay them. Tankel is not turning out to be better at that job. I Received a demand letter, with fees amounting to about 140% of the original amount. I attempted to call back. The first attempt died in a phone tree. Second attempt the line was dead. Attempts on numbers from the website, and another number on a letter insert all got the same results. The "Contact us" web form never gave an indication that anything was delivered, much less sent. The email address on the demand letter came back as undeliverable. I realize that some of this may be due to technical difficulties, maybe it is a tactical choice to try to unbalance debtors. Either way, a demand letter with unreliable contact information does not inspire confidence that resolution will be smooth. Should I draw a cashiers check and get my debt taken care of? Is the street address any good, and will someone answer traditional mail? The score is about 0.5 for 7 attempts. Would I hire this group to make collections from people who owe me money? It is not looking good. I wish my HOA would use someone that would answer the phone. Update: Response time via google reviews: 18 minutes. Fantastic! It turns out I mis-copied the email domain from the paper letter. That was my fault, just like it was my fault that I missed the paper mail updates from the HOA. I have not figured out why the phones and the web form don't work. Maybe voip phones, or aliased number don't work, Maybe the web form needs me to use Microsoft edge, or Safari. Upgrading to three stars.

Michael is an exceptional attorney. He is knowledgeable, results-oriented, tenacious and highly respected in the legal arena. A year+ into a challenging divorce case with prior representation from several other attorneys, I finally retained Michael. He was able to expertly guide me through the process and reach a favorable settlement. I highly recommend him to anyone in need of legal expertise.

I used Michael for my divorce which was a complicated one. During the process, I thought he was a straight shooter and I could tell he knew the legal process well. I felt my use of legal fees was efficient and I ended up right around where he thought I would at the beginning of the process. Overall, I would highly recommend using Michael Fluke.

I was recommended to Mr. Barrett from the Clearwater BAR office as another option to my first lawyer who was unresponsive. My mom’s vehicle was damaged on camera, and I was hoping Mr. Barrett would be able to help us get the car repair paid for and completed in a timely manner. Instead, we were given basic knowledge about opening up a small claim and recommended to take further legal action through a time consuming route while paying out of pocket for damages initially. There was a strong case with video evidence of a hit and run, and a third party aiding in a crime. I really want to help my mom get her transportation back, and Ted Barrett was not helpful and ended the call abruptly with a slight attitude after I stated that I was not satisfied with his response. Im definitely going to avoid Ted Barrett in the future. This was a prime opportunity to help a citizen who is in need of justice and assistance. Thanks for nothing Ted.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
