I’m extremely grateful for all the help of this amazing firm! I needed an urgent assistance with a complicated case matter and Matt and his team did an incredible job for us and did everything timely with care and accuracy. I strongly recommend ☺️!

This lawyer will go out of her way to ensure she has exhausted every means possible to help her clients. She has worked on a case that involved my children seeing their father who was found guilty under a different lawyer and she continues to fight to help him prove his innocence. I would not only trust her with my life but my entire family

My son was diagnosed with Central Auditory Processing Disorder, ADHD, and Asperger Syndrome (a form of autism) at the age of 6. Each one causes difficulties for my son both at home and school. Social Security denied my son's case. I called Jason Thompson. Jason was kind, caring, and supportive. He helped us through the process of filing an appeal and gathering medical evidence. When I had questions, he had answers. When I didn't understand what was happening, he took the time to explain how things work with Social Security. Jason believed we had a case and said he would be with us every step of the way. It's been a year since we won our appeal ! Thank you Jason for everything you've done to help my son. We couldn't have gotten through this without you. You are truly a blessing. Attorney Jason Thompson is a wonderful attorney. Don't waste another minute. CALL HIM !

Allen has handled a myriad of different cases for me over the span of 25 years. He is well respected by his peers and gets things done. He is an expert in business law and personal issues as well. Allen was willing to spend the time necessary to understand the issues before me and always helped me well beyond my expectiations.

This lawyer took my retainer money and never did my work. He’s a horrible man and attorney and I literally am reporting him to Harrisburg. He refunded me after a year.

Allen helped me with an urgent case to do with debt collection and bill paying. I was being harrassed to pay for a service that I had found lacking. His intervention and advice were both timely and effective. He solved the matter and saved me $30,000 in unecessary expenses.

I would highly NOT recommend. I ended up filing a complaint with the office of disciplinary counsel. Long story short, I paid him in full to file my divorce, the whole process back and forth with Paul was 1.5 + years.... he said it was filed and "waiting for the judge to sign." Paul's communication was TERRIBLE to begin with but when it got to the point that I didn't hear back for a few months, I ended up calling the prothonotary's office. Come to find out he NEVER filed all the documents. Still haven't heard from him. I went and filed all the paperwork myself and was divorced in 2 months. Complete waste of time. Completely unprofessional and a scam.

We have not heard back from Paul Peters after we paid and hired him to be our attorney. At first he was responsive and seemed nice and we though everything was great and then nothing.. crickets. Its been over a year and we never even had our day in court and he just dosesnt answer his emails, calls, messages. Definitely would NOT recommend using The Peters Firm 100% scam artist, just takes your money and runs!

Contacted this lawyer for a divorce. Met with her at which time she told me I would be divorced within 4 months. Paid her $500. After a few weeks I tried to contact her again because I never received the papers she told me I would get within a couple weeks. She kept putting me off. Things didn’t seem right. Contacted the coursts and found out she had never processed the papers. I had to hire another lawyer to get the divorce and lost the $500. Jewls never retuned my calls.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?

  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
