Mike handled a personal injury case for me a few years back and did an excellent job, handled the case with the best possible outcome. I would also recommend Mike for any firearms cases; he's quite knowledgeable and is one of the nation's premier Second Amendment attorneys.

We had very good experience working with our attorney Jennifer Routte. There was an urgent legal matter that she was able to help us immediately even though we were not her previous client. With her professional legal advice and due diligent involvement, the issue got resolved well above and beyond our satisfaction. We strongly recommend her and the Routte firm if anyone needs seeking legal help. We definitely will reach out to her in the future.

Overall very pleased with his work and would recommend him to anyone.

I used Richard for a dissolution and I am glad that I did. My ex-wife chose another attorney, and her experience was completely different. Richard was very attentive to my needs and while I don't have experience with using attorney's, he didn't appear to waste any of my time, or his - he got right down to the point in every meeting and handled everything extremely professionally. I'm glad that I found him and plan on keeping his information handy in case I need it again.

I was seeking a simple deed change. I had a consultation appointment with Christopher Alley. He said he would draw up paperwork and send it to me to review. He said he was confident and able to assist us. Instead, he failed to deliver and ghosted us. We sent him a couple follow up emails, he did not respond. He scheduled a phone meeting, and he stood us up (nor did he call and apologize). We called the office and were told he was on vacation and the female assistant asked me to give her 24 hours before moving on to another lawyer. She did not call me back to follow up. I called back and spoke with a male assistant, who apologized and let me know Chris was on vacation and would contact me. Again, no contact. I am shocked at the failure of basic communication skills. A "Hey, I'm not going to be able to help you" would have been professional. My legal matter was pretty simple. I'm not confident in his ability to act professionally or solve simple legal problems.

On a consult with the attorney it appears that he is unable to listen to a client. When I attempted to explain what was going on, there were interruptions by him way too often. Then when I would get a chance to answer, he would change my answer to something else. When I attempted to correct him, he would again interrupt and then tell me I was wrong. Advised that it appears we were not a match, and that we should end this. He decided to interrupt once again and say he isn't interested. If he listened, he would have known that I was already ending it. Poor service. Very poor.

Corinne is professional, dedicated, and patient. She took on my case after a few hearings had already been held, and quickly got up to speed for the final pre-trial hearings. She then won my trial in front of the magistrate, the appeal to the judge, and then the appeal to the 10th District Appeals Court! She is very experienced and knowledgeable, and she always answers my questions and explains anything I do not know or understand about the case and the process. Corinne has always been honest about her expectations for the magistrate or judge, and the pros and cons of the case – but she is also kind and understanding about my perspective. She really cares about clients, and it shows in everything she does.

Corinne has been by far a horrible experience. My first time ever needing an attorney and I hope to never need one again if this is the experience. Originally she presented herself to be someone who genuinely wanted to help me but turned out being someone who most likely just wanted the $2500 retainer. She was never available for me when she said she would be. She never kept her word. She had an excuse for every mess up. She missed my court hearing. This was all in just a about a little over a month time frame of me hiring her. I would not ever recommend to anyone. Five months later she has yet to withdraw herself from my case and stopped communicating with me as well. She does not even deserve one star honestly 😢

I hired Jack to handle my simple divorce. We had been married less than a year and had no property or children to fight over. After paying the 2500 retainer I did not hear from him until the week of my first coat date. He informed me to of the time a room to be in, that is all he did not want to go over anything before the hearing. He was there 30 minuets late with no explanation, he when and talked to the other layer for an hr and came back with my ex demands. That I take all the debt that he racked up, and that he would get to keep the TV, washer, dryer, and all furniture. informed Jack that was not acceptable and gave counter offer I get the TV, and all debt to be split 50/50. The judge agreed and wanted the breakdown of the debt to be presented to him at the next hearing. Seven months later, I get the call from Jack with the day and time to be there, again he does not want to meet early to go over anything. At lest he was on time this time. He looks over my paperwork for 5 minuets and goes and meets my ex lawyer. Jack is gone for about 45 minuets, and comes back saying that I will get the TV but will also take all the debt. He has the gall to tell me that I owe him another 1500 if he is to fight for my ex to take half the debt!!! I will be damned to pay that crook any more money!!! To have my freedom from my ex and from that thief of a lawyer I took the deal.

Attorney Ian Heyman is obsessed with something that he calls the smell test, and one of his frequent expressions is that, "If it does not smell right, it is probably not right.". Ian Heyman, however, does not pass the smell test. I am involved in a very messy trust situation, and I reached out to several law firms to try to find an attorney who could help me with my legal issues. One of my inquiries was answered by an email from Ian Heyman, and several days later we had a lengthy consultation over the telephone. Ian Heyman continuously bragged about his "expertise" in the area of trusts, probate, etc....., and from his self - proclaimed "expertise" in these areas I thought that he could be the attorney who could get the job that I needed done. He assured me that he would be able to resolve everything for me, that I would get justice, that I would finally get the peace of mind that I wanted, etc....., so, we made an appointment for an in - person meeting the following week to discuss my case in greater detail. Ian Heyman's law firm is approximately six hours round trip from my house, so, I cleared my schedule for the day that we were scheduled to meet. The day before our scheduled appointment, I sent emails, and I left voice mails, requesting that he confirm our appointment. I also wanted him to confirm that he had received the large number of files that I had emailed to him (at his request) three days prior, that I had requested confirmation for on the day that I had emailed them, but, did not get. My emails / voice mails were ignored until I eventually sent Ian Heyman an email that night to let him know that I would not make the very long drive to / from his law office the next day without confirmation of our appointment. Finally, I received an email back, and along with his bogus excuses for ignoring me, Ian Heyman told me that he remains committed to me, that he will do everything in his power to help me hold my lawyer - brother accountable for what he has done, and that I have him on my team if I still want him, which he hopes that I do. Still no confirmation that he had received the emails containing my files that I had sent to him three days prior, however. The next day, which was the day of our appointment, I received an email from Ian Heyman early in the morning telling me to drive safely, and to telephone his office if I could not find the parking area next to his law firm's building. Then, less than two hours later, I received a telephone call from Ian Heyman giving me bogus excuses to cancel our appointment, and giving me even more bogus excuses to weasel out of taking my case. All that Ian Heyman did was play games, and waste my time. Avoid this attorney..... He certainly does not pass the smell test.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
