Jeffrey Buskirk & Associates took excellent care of my SSDI disability. They were so diligent. They were always available to answer my questions and listen to my input on my claim. They treated me like a person, not another number. They had care & concern. They had my SSDI disability claim settled in 8 months, counting from the date of my SSDI disability application. I recommend highly Jeffrey Buskirk & Associates. I give them 5 stars! Go with them, you can't fail. Thanks

Hired for Social Security after being turned down twice. Pre trial lasted longer than actual trial! I said 5 words, Hello, I do, and Thank you. Brandon won it for me. I will recommend these folks if someone needs an attorney.

Mr. Rieser was amazing. He worked very hard to ensure I was treated fairly and that all my concerns were taken care of for my situation. He had a very fair price for his services. Hopefully I will not need an attorney again but if I did I would use him and I would highly recommend. Thank you again.

Sean Hefferman helped me with my Fathers estate. My Father and I had seen an attorney and he said everything was in order and his costs was very high but nothing was in order everything had to be redone the right way. I saw Sean Hefferman and he gave me a price for taking care of Dad's estate and I was very pleased with the price and the great service I received. I highly recommend him Dan Kirk

Michelle McCarty is a phenomenal attorney. She carried us through the custody process with our granddaughter. Michelle was extremely empathetic to my position as not only a grandmother but as mother, and understood the difficult position I was in. She is supported my husband and I through the entire process and was with us the entire step of the way. I highly recommend her law firm.

My experience does not reflect the other reviews. I unfortunately dealt with Mildred as the closer. She is unresponsive to time sensitive emails and communicates poorly. Strongly suggest using another title company or getting assurance to better communication from this one.

Mark Gardner is a wonderful man. He truly seems to be a lawyer with a great desire to help and understand. I hired him for a family law matter. I did lose my case but to no fault of his. He had 3 weeks to prepare for a very convoluted case and I do feel he did his best under the circumstances. If given proper time I feel he would be very successful. He does tend to overwork himself though which can cause issues. He is fantastic with remembering case details, he's very willing to be flexible on his retainer and he's not that expensive. I believe his only downside is a timid courtroom presence. Beyond that, I would recommend him. He was the lawyer who restored my faith that not all lawyers are slimy. He's just a good man all around.

Where do I start with my review of John Galasso?? I'll start by telling you that I never met him. I asked him to meet in person so that we were fully prepared for my hearing....he would not find the time. At one point he told me that his office was at his home so he wouldn't. Then maybe we should meet off-site at a restaurant?? He was extremely arrogant. I was dealing with a refinance of my home as part of a divorce. John Galasso kept telling me he knew more than the folks at the bank and that he expected things to be done his way. No Mr. Galasso...you are the attorney....but I will do what the mortgage and title companies tell me to do on that part of things. He would send threatening emails to me that he was going to quit if I didn't do exactly what he said with the refinance. His profane language was grossly unprofessional. But the best one....this guy never even came in and talked to me on the day of the hearing. I was waiting in a conference room. He literally walked by and told me he was going to talk to the magistrate. He did that, exited the courtroom, walked by conference room, and left. I literally had to go into the courtroom to find out the outcome of the hearing. It was the most mind-boggling thing I have ever seen. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES DO BUSINESS WITH JOHN G GALASSO!

Do not be fooled by any positive reviews this man may have, they must be him and his friends leaving nice comments. I regret using Gallaso to represent me. It was my first (and last) DUI. He did absolutely nothing. Spent no time on my case, barely asked me any questions at all. I was CONVICTED of DUI, had 1 year probation, and had to do rehab. All for driving under the influence my first time, with no accidents. It’s as if I had no attorney at all, except it cost me over $4000. Afterwards, when I tried to complain a little (I’m very soft spoken) he got an attitude and blamed me for getting the DUI in the first place. Isn’t your attorney supposed to be there for you instead of blaming you? Completely incompetent, condescending, and has a big attitude problem with a woman questioning him about her case (no matter how nicely).

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
