Lacie goes above and beyond from the first moment of hire. She has a wonderful paralegal as well. They took the time to fully understand our matter at hand and worked hard for a positive outcome. Family law is never straight forward, they really achieved our best result.

I hired lately Lacie Bowden for a criminal case of mine. She blew my mind and got the judge to lower my consequences. I got early termination on probation because of my attorney Mrs. Bowden and should only have probation for a couple of months. Now obviously probation is based on how quick you get things done but your attorney can get you early termination, which she did. She also made sure that I did not lose my license for the situation at hand, which being a working professional is very important to me. Thank you Lacie for being an amazing attorney and I Will definitely refer you to my friends and family.

Because of the sensitivity of our case and the trauma our son endured, we are leaving an anonymous reference . However, you can rest assured that there is no better malpractice attorney in the Southeast USA . We are a military family and we needed someone who was thorough, not just telling us what we wanted to hear, honest, and cared about what we went through after our car accident . As a military family, we also are sticklers for paying attention to detail and integrity . Bryan Aylstock has both these qualities . Bryan does his homework and has dedicated staff that do not waste time and also have experience. Bryan is the head of his law firm and so you don’t just get him - you get everyone who works with him working to win your case . We had been through so much and were almost about to give up but then we found Bryan Aylstock and his team . They were excellent during depositions and always prepared us well. They also made everything easier emotionally, with their kindness and ability to listen, understanding what we had been through. They were very patient and helpful. They also made certain we were always treated with respect and dignity and knew our rights . You won’t find a better more experIenced attorney and it’s obvious he expects the same of everyone who works for him. We learned so much . After our traumatic experience, this was almost a breeze and we will forever be grateful . Did we win ? Yes of course, and we did not even have to go to court because Bryan was so persuasive the other side just gave in and admitted fault .

Having recently moved to the area we searched the net for an attorney to update and redraft our wills-durable power of attorney and living will's. His web site is very professional and we easily secured an appointment. Our documents were drawn promptly and accurately.

Ms. Gibbs has continually displayed exceptional legal and analytical skills and is well respected among the judiciary. She is one of the best and most dedicated lawyers I have had the pleasure to work with. She is also rated AV by her peers in Martindale, which is the highest possible rating awarded to any lawyer.

Mr. Evers listened to my issue and explained my case in great detail. He told me about the good things and the bad parts about my case that helped me understand how to move forward. He was always good about making himself available around my work schedule. Having been injured was scary but I felt comfortable during the whole process.

Typically attorneys are known for avarice (billable hours). Not so with David. He had the patience of a saint and the knowledge of a scholar and his information was critical for winning my case not once but three times. Children are an investment so invest wisely.

Ms. Rodriguez has exceeded my expectations in my custody case. I’ve been in a lengthy custody’s battle for a few years and have been through multiple attorneys. She has helped me more than all of them combined, all with a compassionate heart. Ms. Rodriguez took my case with no problem and has been flexible with me and payments. I’m a single mother of five, and am on a tight budget and she has worked with me. Knowing these cases can be lengthy she understands it’s not always easy and has accommodated. Not just a great attorney because of her moral character but also by her legal talents. She’s always been on top of things with my case and has never let me down. All while showing concern for the actual outcome for my family, not just my case. More than I can say for my previous attorneys. Hopefully I don’t have to hire her again but if that time ever comes she’ll be the first person I contact.

Mr. Wilhelm helped me when no other attorney would. I was consulted by other attorneys that asked in upwards of $7,000. 00 down to do a foreclosure for me. I am 70 plus years old and Mr Wilhelm took the time and patience with me at an affordable price so that I could defend myself. He is caring and patient. I will recommend him to anyone who needs legal help!! Great attorney that goes over and above and I am so thankful to have found him!

In short he is a vulture that apparently likes to take people's money when they are/were already struggling. He apparently thinks he is someone special in that he can judge them for being in default when most people do not just stop paying on a house they have paid a note on for more than 12 years unless there is a reason. I have medical issues that caused our default and after trying to work with the mortgage company we had no choice but to hire an attorney. He was recommended by the service officer serving our forclosure notice. I am convinced he pays him to recommend him since he stated he was the "only one that could help us" because all of the "other attorneys are working with the mortgage companies". There is no communication, he does exactly as all of the other reviews state he does. He takes people's money and does absolutely nothing for them. We paid him for three years all the while assuming that he was doing work on our case to help us. In the end he gave our house to the mortgage company and has not sent paperwork or emails as requested or as he stated he would.

This attorney should not practice the law anymore. I payed him $3,000.00 to file an represent me and to file an affidavit on my behalf as i was not in default at all. Instead, he set me up with the plaintiff attorney and set up a date to foreclosure on my property without my knowledge and my approval. I don't think he works for people, I think he's working against people helping the palitiff ( bank ) indirectly! He should loose his license! He put my property in foreclosure when I'm not in default.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
