my husband got very ill, very fast to a point that I could not care for him at home without endangering my own health.I was at my last bit of sanity and a friend told me about Rob. I went there and he helped me save of my assests that we had put away for our "golden years". Without his guidance and experience I feel I would have been in financial ruins. I feel so fortunate to have him as our lawyer I have taken the liberty to hand out his cards to family and friends

My Father was stricken with a very aggresive form of lung cancer and it was clear to be able to provide for my mother's well being we needed a different financial strategy then the one planned by my parents and we needed it fast. I consulted with Rob and he provided my brothers and I not only with a very clear understanding of our options but a recomendation and action plan that when executed would take care of my Mothers long term care. Having said that we needed to act fast and within a few days Rob had all of the legal work complete and executed just a few days before my Father died. Rob listened and understood our needs. Developed and executed the plan in a very timely manner. I could not strongly recomend Rob enough to anyone seeking advice and help for their elderly parents.

We would highly recommend Robert Longstreet's office. We had a very good experience with doing our trust with him. He gave us very good ideas and also answered many questions that we had for him. He seemed knowledgeable in what we needed done.

I used Michael for my divorce back in 2010 and I have sense gone back to him for a child custody case. I made the mistake of going with two other attorney's for my child custody case and got forced into an order I am NOT happy with. I wish I had gone back to Mr. McPhillips in the first place. He is straight forward and truly cares for his clients. I have faith in him to help me with getting my current custody order changed. His staff is very friendly as well. I would trust his firm with anything!

For a professional to take the time and effort to provide services without payment on the part of the client is unheard of. Yet Jackie did just that and provided me with the direction I need in order to accomplish my legal goals. Thank you Jackie!

We asked for the list of twelve interest factors for kids. She said she couldn't give that to us. That was a lie. She always demanded money up front even though she said it would take a day in court and that we could do a payment plan. It was ridiculous how long it took. She worked for the agenda of green gables even though the father was not he one who abused the mother. She brought up only negative facts about us instead of the positive truths. When going through family court it's possible to get angry with the process. She can't handle it. She works for whatever agenda she wants. Not the client. It's a known fact Barry county is hard on men. Do yourself a favor and hire someone else.

Integrity in an attorney/client relationship is vital. During a difficult time in our lives with the loss of a parent, we reached out for representation from Attorney Shane Henry. We were devastated with his betrayal, lack of professionalism, and the absence of client support in handling an unrelated matter. He deliberately communicated with the opposing attorney and made decisions without our knowledge or authorization.

Shane henry is inexperienced. He does not stand up and fight for you in court. He does not know his case when front of a judge, constantly looking at notes and not speaking up to represent his client. If you have a difficult case consider someone else.

This attorney is very unprofessional and does absolutely nothing to earn his pay. We used him for a family trust and it has been almost two years and the money has still not been paid out. He will not return phone calls at all and if we stop by his office to ask him nicely to contact the power of attorney that lives out of state, he becomes irate and tells us that it is not our business to do so. He is very demeaning and does not know how to show human beings respect. It is way past his time to retire.

The only reason that I put Good for the two cause she did do all of this, but only to trick you!!! She had my husband plead guilty to Home Invasion and would of never meant to do this! He was messed up on drugs and alcohol and had went to the wrong house thinking it was his friends house which was only a block away! There was a child there and so they made a huge thing cause of it! In which he would of never harm a child who never even wanted to go hunting cause of hurting a animal! He and I have 2 Children now 29 and 25 and a Grandson 11 and never once did anything to scold them only gave them love! So she had him, Me, His Mother and Cousin to believe that he would get probation and a Rehab for his problems and knowing that was never gonna happen and had him plead guilty to this crime! Plus her being a former Prosecutor for Kalamazoo MI she knew exactly what their plans were. Even knowing that the Mother of the child would be brought into court to go on the stand and be told what to say to really hang him, it was a very sad and disturbing day!!! So he ended up with 5 to 20 years in Prison and was put at the worst Prison they could put him at! Was beaten with Padlocks in socks by 7 or more inmates! To proof what my Family was go to my web site on Face Book and look at pictures and can see for your own eyes and see for youself!!! Thanks for taking the time to read what I have wrote... Michigan is such a corrupted state and would not of gotten the way it has to do with drugs, its a money making thing for the State and Government! Our System could of stopped it all by not allowing certain things to keep being sold and would of not gotten out of hand and still to this day a huge problem!!! F.B is under Beth Williams Lucas

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
