I was very impressed with Mr. O'Neal when he represented me regarding a car accident. When we spoke on the telephone he listened to me and answered my questions so that I could understand. I thank him very much for representing me.

Mr. O'Neal provided me with an outstanding experience. He is extremely professional and attentive to clients needs. He provided a comfortable and comprehensive experience. He was able to answer all my questions, create my will and other documents to my exact request and provide suggestions to better protect me and my assets in the future. He is extremely fair and frankly is a breath of fresh air to an often money hungry and greedy group. Mr. O'Neal is an smart choice as an attorney, and I will be referring others to his law practice.

Attorney Kollmann is very effective and accurate. She easily made us feel comfortable and ensured that we understood everything that we wanted to accomplish. I cannot recommend a better attorney. Her background is impressive and it comes through in her service to her clients. We will definitely be going to Attorney Kollmann in the future!

I highly do NOT recommend Katie Bates as an attorney. I hired her in my case and she legally misled me to believe something that wasn't true, I emailed her law firmed multiple times and got NO response, I called continuously after receiving a drawn up court order from her law firm that was wrong and got no type of communication. Then after the drawn up court order was used against me I decided to terminate her services. I requested my billable hours and she had in fact charged me for the calls that I made, the wrong drawn up court order, and even the FREE consultation. I didn't receive the drawn up court order for a little over 3 weeks after the court appearance. She says that I called multiple times but left no message (which is true). She had no rebuttal for the court order being drawn up super late or that it was wrong neither did she have a rebuttal for the multiple emails I sent that were ignored, but I was charged for them reviewing them. Bates Law Firm put me in a impossible situation and took no accountability after causing so much unnecessary confusion and drama. She made my case about her own personal situation. This Law Firm should not be trusted. Don't walk, RUN far away.

I retain this law firm for a contempt of court case they help me out. I had a few issues with the receptionist and not understanding a few things, but the lawyer did do something very unexpected that she surprised me. She seen me during another court case, and stepped in and helped me when she pretty much could’ve told me, good luck buddy for that I would use this company again if needed, but I would gather more information for my own understanding

Katie was an excellent attorney I should have hired her the first time, the outcome probably would have been different. You may not always like what Katie has to say but she is simply advising you the best she can outside of emotions.

Don't walk RUN from this law firm. They charge double what experienced attorneys charge and when you hire either one of them you have a 50/50 chance that they may work your case through to the end but what I experienced was incompetence, excuses, and then stepped down right before the case went to trial.

Mr. Johnson lacks of communication and drive. Made him loose my case. He did not show up for two of my court hearings. The judge had to call him both times. I never received an explanation until I reached out to him. He charged me 3500 dollars and didn’t do anything but loose my case. Iam very disappointed.

I am the daughter of Timothy Stephens the man you put 14 counts on him because the long county court messed up his surname when the case should have been dismissed. My dad is innocent maybe if you all would done your Jobs correctly you would have seen the innocence instead you were more worried about money. Your a horrible person Melissa L poole sending an innocent man to prison for vigilante justice for me because I was sexually assaulted by a person who was just the age of eleven. Just because you have your law degree that doesn't give the right to make me and my family suffer because of what you all did we had to suffer a loss of my brother taking his own life. You don't deserve your position at all because guess what you won't have your position when you get disbarred from your job and which you will. Congratulations on destroying the childhood I never got was because of you. I also took criminal justice at Campbellsville University and there were a lot mistakes you all have made. I wouldn't recommend you because you don't do your job correctly. Sincerely Kayla Stephens.

*The disrespect failure of ADA Melissa Poole to call me as I requested through the DA's victim advocate. *Justice delayed..! 4 years from crime to Plea. No calls returned by an ADA in that four year period Until MADD stepped in a week before plea. *ADA Pooles' failure to read the case file before negotiating the plea agreement. Poole admitted this during our one & only phone conversation a few days prior to the hearing. I asked her to describe the crime scene (which I was familiar with). Being painted into a corner with no knowledge of same she admitted not having read the case file. *ADA Poole's negotiated the plea agreement with defense without knowledge that the defendant had a prior DUI within a year of killing my son. She initially disputed this fact with my other son in his one and only returned call. When she subsequently called me (for the 1st time) she was then aware that def had the prior DUI. *The utter disrespect for my family including our beloved Ryan in not having the decency to return phone calls to the grieving father and brother. Our being kept out of the loop was 4 years of salt in the wound. I have forgiven the defendant, a troubled hound man with a drinking problem, but I have no aspirations of forgiving ADA Poole. Her failures showed an indifference to the one consolation that my family and I had hoped for; justice. Not the def's head on a stick, but competent due process. Go home and look at your children and think of how you would feel if you were denied that which you denied my family and our beloved Ryan. Shame on you! A forever grieving dad,Terrence

I requested paper work from him 2 months ago where he communicated with the courts and the opposing attorney. Here we are in November and I still don't have them. He wanted me to agree to paying a certain amount in child support without knowing how much the ex wife made. And wanted me to give up half of my pension but not asking for how much pension she had. In my opinion I was had. If you do business with this guy you will definitely need a fee agreement and good old fashion handshake and a mans word just won't do.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
