I reached out to Brian after receiving a traffic ticket on I84. Because I have a CDL, it is extremely important for me to keep a clean record, and because I live elsewhere, I was unable to be in court to defend myself. Thankfully, I reached out to Brian and he took care of my case. He had everything handled, and when court came was able to achieve the desired judgment! He took my case seriously, and used his good relationships to figure out the best course of action to have my ticket dismissed. I would absolutely recommend Brian Starns.

Excellent Bankruptcy Lawyer!!! Used her service recently, she was very knowledgeable and organized! She helped walk me through each step and made sure everything was in order, it was painless! She was able to let me know before hiring her that I was able to file bankruptcy and that my debt was eligible. I strongly recommend Carolyn Smale and would use her services again if needed. Thank you so much for all your hard work and help! This was a blessing and relieved a lot of stress in my life 💖 🙏 🙌

Public "pretenders" are a more accurate label for every single person employed to "help" "defend" you. Got more done trusting a jailbroken chatgpt for help understanding my options. These people will just convince you to take a horrible plea deal and tell you they only focus on some B.S. parts of law that aren't even relevant in defending your case. Won't ask for any kind of leniency or do anything helpful really and don't bother looking through your case file before meeting with you if it's not a guaranteed win

Not proud to admit that I'm not new to the criminal justice system. I think that most people would agree with me when I say that 9 times out of ten, its not about "delivering justice", or to "ensure the saftey of our local communities". Because in reality it just usually comes down to money- politics - and motives. All of which are generally misunderstood by the public majority. With all of that being said, I feel that it's extremely necessary to give proper credit when and where it is due. And so even though we've only just recently met, Mr. Sullivan definitely deserves to be given the necessary credit he deserves. I have never once Experienced or received proper counsel like this. The man was certainly does his due diligence and has a good working relationship with both the District attorney, judges, local resources, as well as great investigators. I feel like it cares about his clients and that his secretary is super kind and personable. Doing things like reminding me about court beforehand and keeping in touch with me. Even when I've been hard to get hold of. If you are assigned to have him and his team as your defense, consider yourself extremely lucky, and respect his/their time. I am extremely grateful for your hard work, encouraging words, resources offered, and just treating me like my life matters. Please keep doing what you guys are doing and hopefully others in your profession will see and then desire to start following in the same meaningful path that impacts so many lives around the nation. Thank you.

I had never hired my own lawyer before so I went on the advice of another professional choosing this particular lawyer. I can't say that he was an outstanding lawyer in my case. He did have a pleasant personality and somewhat easy to contact when needed, but I felt he was not fully committed to my side or put in enough effort at the end of this long legal course. Maybe just too many cases or other interests going on?? Unsure of why it ended as it did but probably will not hire him again for my needs. Hopefully others had a better experience than I did as I'm sure every case is individual.

GARRETT SHARP IS THE WORST JOKE OF AN ATTORNEY I HAVE EVER SEEN IN A COURTROOM. HE DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR MY 23 YEAR OLDS CASE AND THEN CHARGED HIM OVER 24 THOUSAND DOLLARS. My son makes 30k a year and he was ordered to pay 1900 a month in child support and Garrett said it was my sons fault and then dropped the case. Biggest piece of trash! Don’t go here. Go across the street to Stacy, she’s a bulldog!

I used Mike Fitzimons and this Law Firm for personal and business legal work for more than ten years. unfortunately, I used Mike Fitzimons to represent me during my divorce and with the custody of my children. I have learned that Mike and this law firm are incompetent. This is probably the worst child custody firm in the state. Ultimately, I was lucky. I was able to to see my children again, and get to 50% custody despite Mike Fitzimons and this awful law firm. This group is the worst of the worst. Avoid at all costs. These are local politicians pretending to be a law firm. These attorneys are part of the reason why people hate lawyers. Years later Mike’s brother in law was involved in an embezzlement and forgery scheme against me. Of course Mike represented the perpetrators. These guys are super scary people

Going through a divorce for 15 months now. Staci charged a 20,000 dollar retainer. She was very hard to communicate with. When she talked to me she told me to answer in “yes or no” to her questions. She didn’t want to know the background of the divorce. It took her 22 days to file a motion that was time sensitive to the divorce date. The motion was finally filed. At that motion she called the court the day before and piggy backed on the motion to withdraw 6 days before my divorce trial. She constantly threatened to withdraw several times through our relationship. She extended my divorce trial and left me high and dry with the expert witnesses that were arranged for court. She also did not ask for discovery that I requested through the case. I never received my wife’s discovery. She ignored requests and her duties as my attorney. She did not put the time in and was not concerned about being prepared in hopes the divorce would be settled out of court. I would not recommend her to anybody. Going through a divorce while your lawyer treats you like a number was offensive and frustrating. She managed to get me for 12,000 dollars essentially for a discovery request and filing a motion to the court in an untimely matter.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
