Most recently, we used their services for a real estate transaction and having Rick (and Shannon) acting on our behalf made it simple and seamless. Steven Brody has been representing my son who's on probation, on several domestic and criminal charges. During consultations, Steven has advise clearly and concisely regarding what to expect as the case proceeds and what my son needs to do to comply with probation and remain in good standings with the court. While the case is still pending final outcome, Steven presented my son's situation regarding the status of his rehabilitation earning the courts determination to allow my son to complete his IOP before passing judgment on prior probation violations. Steven's deliberation for my son's case was delivered professionally with factual argument against the prosecution's petition to revoke my son's probation. Thank you, Steven.

Steve was hired onto my case a couple of months after my initial involvement in the child welfare system... my only regret was waiting the month or two to bring him on to my case. Although he was hired to represent me, he worked hand-in-hand with my husband's legal counsel; never losing sight of the ultimate goal of family reunification. Our case was messy, but Steve guided us every step of the way. Would never consider using anybody else in the juvenile/ family system. He's an absolute gem!

I highly recommend Mr. Timothy Brandner for anyone going through a divorce. From the moment I hired him, I was impressed with how thoroughly he listens to concerns and his deep understanding of the laws related to protection orders. His courtroom knowledge and advice have been top-notch, making the entire process much smoother. I genuinely believe he has the potential to become one of the top-rated divorce lawyers in the Midwest. If you’re looking for a dedicated and skilled attorney, Mr. Brandner is an excellent choice.

Lisa was my divorce attorney a few years ago. Marriage dissolution can be messy business--mysterious too, for those of us who aren't lawyers. I had lots of questions as well as some big decisions to make. Lisa guided me through the whole ordeal and always made me feel at ease. She has a great depth of knowledge as well as respect for the legal system and truly embodies the term Justice for All.

When I came to Lisa's office, it was suggested by my attorney who worked alone and not from a law firm. We looked throughout Kane county and decided on Lisa Nyuli. Lisa made me comfortable even though coming into my case at a late date. Assuring me that she'd do everything possible to help me through. There was no pressure as to what she wanted me to do, she always said , "I work for you". It was a divorce case and my wife and I decided to reconcile and Lisa was also as happy for me and made I did not feel any humility for my choice. I would call her again, hopefully not for a divorce. I enjoyed being in her company, always confident

Lisa assisted me with my child support and visitation case. She was very knowledgeable and confident. When ever I would call in a panic, both she and her assistant Sandy would give me reassurance and helped me to keep my piece of mind. My case ended in a positve way and I would have no hesitations in recommending her services.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
