I cannot emphasize enough the incredible peace of mind Nick provided me during a challenging and uncertain situation. His expertise and reassuring demeanor instantly put me at ease. Nick patiently answered all my questions, ensuring I understood every aspect of my options and rights, as well as what resources and colleagues would be best in my case. After our conversation, I felt empowered and educated, armed with the knowledge I needed to navigate my circumstances with confidence. Feeling secure and informed during such a stressful time is truly priceless—it gave me a sense of control over the situation. I wholeheartedly recommend Nick, along with anyone he works with professionally, for their integrity, professionalism, and dedication to their clients' well-being. Nick, thank you for your exceptional service and for making a positive difference in my life. Your commitment to your clients is evident, and I am grateful to have had you on my side.

1 star is way to much to give this law firm. I was not impressed with them. Their lack of communication with executors. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. They drag their feet on closing estates. I feel that they only look at $$$ signs to line their pockets. DO NOT USE THIS LAW FIRM. Unfortunately my father's oldest daughter hired them because they are located close to where she lives.

After my grandfather passed away in December of 2021, I received a letter from Ellis Law Firm stating that I was an heir to his estate along with a copy of my grandfather's will. His will stated that each of his grandkids were to receive $1,000 but now Ellis Law Firm is claiming that his grandkids get nothing. Ellis Law Firm is run by people who are clearly not fit to practice law. Please be aware of this shady law firm. 1 star is still 5 stars too many.

DO NOT USE THIS LAW FIRM!! Their webpage is a fancy way to get you to call them. I contacted this firm the day after I was arrested which was 2 weeks prior to the initial appearance date. Their secretary advised that she would pass my information along and call or email me soon. After a week I followed up.. expressing my concern that I has not heard from a lawyer... The secretary again stated that the lawyer was reviewing the case and would be contacting me soon and they were aware of the initial appearance date. Another week goes by and here we are one day before and still no call from Ellis law firm. So I call again and this time I was not nearly as nice which is to be expected. I asked if it was normal practice to disregard new clients and never call them back? One day before the appearance date and I have not talked to a lawyer or been told how much it will cost... I was given excuse after excuse as to why they had not called.. Well after that phone call guess what... the lawyer called but she did not care at all about her dropping the ball and not doing her job just that i was rude to her support staff after I was ignored and disregarded as a new client!!! I can not stress enough do not do business with these people ever !!! As a manager of a successful small business in Indianola that has been here for 10+ years and deals with the general public every day, we would not be in business if we treated our clients the way Ellis Law Firm treats their new clients.

I wouldn't trust this company with a dime. Mason was an estate attorney for a family we were working to buy a house from. He refused to represent that families wishes in order to put more money in his own pocket. Backed everyone into a corner for his own benefit. A crook in all forms of the word.

Hard Pass. Here is what i opined after a brief initial consulatation,.. In one corner, you have the Lawyers who are scholars, writers, logical, rational minds who genuinely find the philosophy and application of law enjoyable. These lawyers respect the rule of law, and understand why maintaining its utmost integrity is important for the justice system. These are the lawyers that protect their integrity and refrain from making frivolous or specious arguments for the sake of protecting their client’s interests. These lawyers engage with their colleagues and judges respectfully, maintain humility about the aspects of the law they don’t know, and work hard for the sake of maintaining a stable justice system. These lawyers actually give a f*ck about the tremendous responsibility that has been placed on their shoulders. Without honest lawyers, our system would fail. It arguably is failing as we speak, but i digress. In the other corner, you have William E. Robak, the greedy, soulless type who believes that winning is the reason for living. This lawyer is very common, because the profession attracts a high percentage of psychopathic, narcissistic characters. Some lawyers believe it is their job to manipulate, obfuscate, and generally help their clients get away with stuff. They take pleasure in filing motions after motions to clog up the justice system, and they take pleasure in billing their clients hundreds of dollars an hour in pursuit of a case that they will not win. These lawyers give everyone else a bad name because there are so dang many of them.

Unfortunately, anyone can post anything on the internet, even non-clients such as this person. We do encourage clients to visit our office website which contains actual reviews by actual clients. We attempt to provide quality legal services for a fair price. Be kind to your friends and neighbors. Well wishes.

I consulted this attorney and concluded he's a psychopath and did not hire him. He bragged at having screwed over his own mother, brother, and naive small town chums who'd cheered for him when he played football.. There used to be a name for people like him but he left me reeling with disgust at his lack of ethics.

05 Aug, 2014 by Research your lawyer before hiring
Cami is never prepared for court always filing continuances for lack of preparedness. She failed on 3 separate occasions to get papers in on time causing my case to be prolonged. She called me to tell me she was about to file my papers then 2 days later I asked on an update and she again said she was just about to file them. When asked what happened to filing them 2 days ago all she said was she forgot to do it. She filed my paperwork in the wrong judicial branch causing a delay. She was fined by the Supreme Court for not having certain material turned in by the court ordered date. She was almost 2 months late filing it so they fined her which she told me nothing about it I received a letter from the court telling me. She was adamant that my case was in my favor and that the other party didn't have a leg to stand on. In the end it cost me thousands of dollars, delayed for more months than it should have taken due to her irresponsible behavior, and the outcome was nothing like she claimed it would be. I'm not upset about the outcome because in the end I ended up getting what I went to court for because of the other persons ignorance 5 days after the courts decision was made not credit whatsoever to Cami. I have since researched her And found 2 other reprimands from the Iowa bar assoc. She was constantly telling me how she wasn't sure on how something worked and had to research it. Her office staff seems to know more than her.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
