In 2002 I was in a head on car accident in which I suffered a severe traumatic brain injury that left me in a coma for one month. I was 15 at the time. Following my injury I was advised to sue my parents car insurance for the medical coverage and also the $1 million Umbrella Policy. Greg worked incredibly well with me and my family throughout the entire process, including a rather heated deposition in which I got so angry with the insurance company's lawyer I tried turning the questions back onto him, and Greg was able to calm me down with jokes and good humor. In the end Greg helped me to win my lawsuit for $1.25 million, which will now protect me from future health concerns related to my injury through a structured settlement. I just past the 14 year anniversary of my injury, and I think 11 year anniversary of my settlement, and to this day Greg keeps in close touch with me and my husband. He even noticed when I was graduating from college at the same time as one of his paralegals and sent me a graduation card and gift! Greg is an amazing person, and an extremely talented attorney. I am truly blessed to have someone like Greg McEwen in my life!

I have been fortunate to have the support of Brian Taurinskas from Taurinskas Law on two separate occasions. I would recommend his services to anyone needing a talented and knowledgable voice on their "team". In my case, his professional approach to two different real estate issues resulted in very positive outcomes for me and my family. His knowledge and recall of the law allowed us to move forward quickly based on his recommendations, even though when I walked into his office the path seemed so unclear. It is so nice to know that I have someone with his credentials to turn to, in times of need. Thank you Brian!

Low effort. Gregg didn't know my condition was blue book. Did not link my other issues. Did not clarify inaccuracies in my denial. Did not complete a brief the judge asked him for to help in his understanding of my condition, then didn't do the Appeal brief in time. Gee, I got denied. Who knew. His receptionist was rude. Just really bad. Don't call him unless you are missing a limb, he won't get it done.

Was looking for a tribunal lawyer in a person injury case at a hotel or a lawyer that would take on a case against the tribunal system, sadly most won't because they have there own laws and ways on tribunal land they don't gotta follow our courts laws, so it's difficult to find a lawyer when they're not going to be able to make any money cause your likely to loose unfortunately.

She is very unprofessional and want to push people to court to get the most of someone's money, she doesn't care about your children's emotions of parents going to a court room the fights and arguments, all she cares about is a potential win for her. She is not concerned about how bad or how much worst she is personally making it for you and the other ex, she is not someone who should handle family cases

I hired Barrie Schumack in For DWI and possession of a controlled substance. He talked and walked me through the process and was a straight shooter. He clearly has been doing this for years and knows the process and players. I liked his straight talk and what I could expect. I seriously don't think I could have done any better. I was cool with the result and my roommate hired him last month. Good dude.

I met with Barrie Schumack in May 2016 after being charged with 4th degree dwi. He listened to my circumstances and I felt he was upfront and honest with what to expect with the outcome. My result was better than expected and his price war fair and most importantly, he was willing to work with me on a payment schedule. A couple co-workers have used him and two family members - all felt really good with the outcome.

If I can give less than 1 star I would. My experience with Mr. Barrie Schumack was so terrible and worthless. This was my first DUI case and came to Mr.DUI from a recommendation from my co-worker.She said that he was great and would do everything for me. I made an appointment, no problem. Barrie was so sweet and found anything in he's power to make me feel comfortable. Went in to talk to Barrie and literally spent about 1 1/2 hours talking about the "science of DUI". I'm not there to talk about what he has achieved and all that. I needed a lawyer to listen to my case and see if there was any justice for me. I felt like I was in school listening to a boring lecture, while I try to doodle on paper because it was that pointless! After about a 1 1/2 of his spools about his achievements and such. He listened to what I had to say and doodled in his paper about how to plea my case. It really felt like he didn't care and was just money hungry. He also wasn't straight forward about my case and didn't take my case seriously. He offered me $4400 for a team and said it can be cheaper if I eliminated any team member. For my case It wasn't even that serious and to top it all off Mr DUI said I can have a $100 discount because I was vietnamese. what kind of business is that?! and then offered to go to Mr.Ticket across the street to pay some more money to take care of my license.

I have been a client of Dave's for a number of years. He is a true professional. He also has the ability to speak in a manner that makes things very easy to understand. If you need help with wills, trusts, elder care or real estate, Dave also helped my elderly parents and was so patient and respectful with them. I would not hesitate to recommend Dave to anyone.

Me and my wife met Lesley Adam 3 weeks back and discussed our business needs. She sounded like she was confident of handling our business needs and assured us of some deliverable in the next week. However, its been 3 weeks since she took our payment and now has not been available for contact or even an email since then! Highly unprofessional behavior! I don't recommend Lesley to anybody.

Lesley and her teams did really well for me. She answered her emails and calls, with much respect and timely manner. She was knowledgeable and her fees were right for the service. She was very professional and had my interest at heart. I did not feel like she was just trying to squeeze money out of me like other lawyers do. If you need help with evictions, mediation, rentals and investment properties, she is the right person.

I do not recommend anyone goes to this man if they have a important case or problem. He does not very well represent his clients and will not fight for anything he is not comfortable with. If you feel like your case is important find someone a little more expensive you defiantly get what you pay with this man, nothing.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
